Johnny is basically the Overwatch of CZcams reviewers. His videos are accessible, addictive and I get the same feeling seeing a new video in my sub box as I do getting a loot box!
Except when you open a Loot Box you are greeted with disappointment.
When you watch Johnny's videos you are greeted with good stuff.

As a dedicated Overwatch player, I cannot fathom how Johnny can love Bastion and Mei and at the same time hate D.VA.
I love bastion, because he's easy at early on but in later levels if you don't learn how to use him more properly you'll get destroyed by they enemy since they know how to deal with bastion now. But mei she will block your kills, especially when you use your ultimate and then just waste it because of her ice walls.
Bastion just wants to bird watch, while Mei is adorable.
D.Va goes through battle suits like water, and that's terrible for the ecosystem.

I thought it was funny how you said you finally got potg with bastion because he is known for getting potg when the game first came out lol also D.va wasn't as good as she was now since they did buff her, she use to die from her own ulti and her sheild wasn't as mindgames as it is now but i do agree i was never was into fps but this game made me get into it and i kind of wish for a single player campaign to expand the story

The overwatch community on PC is generally pretty good. Sometimes you get "That Guy" but for the most part its pretty good.
That Guy: The guy who mains Bastion and spams chat whenever he doesn't get a killing blow.
The one who makes the game unfun and all that guy does, is complain, harasses others just to put them down and ruining the experience. for everyone who wants to have fun and just play the game. Without them breathing down their neck, just because they are extremist and knows everything about the game.
I thank Blizzard for going hard on hackers and trolls.

It’s crazy - I remember way back in 2016 when this game was displaying advertisements everywhere (including a movie theater, where I first saw them), and I thought the game looked terrible.
When I saw THIS review, however, my interest was mildly piqued and I asked for it as a Christmas gift of that same year. And then... 500 levels later over the course of one year later and I can definitely say it’s one of my favorite modern games.
Johnny, if you ever read this, I thank you. For not only introducing me to a game that’s incredible, but by doing so, you’ve helped me find a couple of my closest friends to this day from Overwatch communities and the game itself. You are amazing, good sir. Keep on drinking that coffee and doing what you do best. ☕️

This review makes me wish you would give Team Fortress 2 a look at Johnny, and I don't say that because of the Overwatch comparison because honestly, they have LITTLE in common; I say that just cause I want to see your opinion, your opinion is roughly like mine when it comes to Overwatch, so I wonder if TF2 would be the same. Considering you only touched the game a little, it may not happen, but the future is a strange mistress. Either way, can't wait for the Star Fox Zero review to come out in October! (Just a rough estimate FYI.)

I think the character designs are really appealing too... but I can't help but feel most of that is wasted on a 1st person shooter because you're mostly just staring at their guns the whole time.

Dat Mass The Skylanders show was surprisingly good (which, if I recall correctly, was partially animated by Blizzard), so an Overwatch show wouldn't be too bad.

Today was the first time I returned to this video specifically to binge your videos, and honestly, Johnny, I sincerely thank you for getting me into Overwatch. I really mean that, because not only have I found a game that I come back to time and time again, but I also have now a newfound love for writing because of the lore, and meeting friends that, no shit, I met in real life and still are friends with to this day. I had no intention at ALL to get this game, until you showcased it, and I gotta say, for Christmas of... 2016 or 2017, I believe, I can’t remember, I got the game and I don’t regret it. I wouldn't recommend it until Valve fixes everything they broke during the Matchmaking update. No joke, my only fix with TF2 at the moment is from community servers and trust me, they are not new player friendly.

There's something about your videos that just so relaxing and easy to enjoy. whenever I'm watching a Johnny Vs. I don't feel like I'm watching a game review, I feel like I'm actually sitting down and talking with you about if that specific game is good or bad, or somewhere in between. Even when things like the Tails Doll show up, which is always amusing, when you're actually talking about the game there's a level of honestly I don't get from any other reviewer. I'm not exaggerating when I say I smile everytime I see one of your videos pop up in my sub feed.

Finally, the Starfox Marathon can begin. I don't mean to be pushy, it's just that it's been a very long time since I've been able to watch a new marathon review without having to worry about spoilers. Really looking forward to it, John.
Johnny hits the nail on the head. I'm not very good at team shooters like Team Fortress 2, but my friend talked me into buying it anyway, and I fucking LOVE IT! With TF2, if you're not good to start with, then you'll more than likely not get better. Overwatch, with all the characters there are and how many play styles they have, you're bound to find someone you're pretty good at. I love playing as Mei just to be a dick, McCree and Reaper to dish out the pain, and Roadhog is my best character, using his Kunai with Chain to bring those fuckers in close to shotgun them to hell!
No, in TF2 you just have to put time into the game and learn about it to get good. In Overwatch the skill ceiling is pretty low so casual players can pick it up easily, but it's not as rewarding for people who actually care about video games.
Now I want to see Roadhog in an ill fitting ninja outfit.
Tracer is "poster girl" because she was first character for what Overwatch was original was Titan, but since they dropped that development they decided with overwatch to use the "tracer" character.

Well it does have the most barebones mechanics in the series so it's probably the best game to start on.
And the story of Metal Gear begins with Snake Eater yet people always recommend starting with the MGS1 or the MSX games.
I don't like BioShock 2, BioShock is good and infinite is my favorite of any fps, though I don't like the fps genre

Yeah, you really have to play the game in order to understand what it's all about, though I'm pretty sure he was joking with that statement.
He said he "feels" like he knows everything about the game. Which is something many people experience when the fandom for something is large and seemingly omnipresent. It's only when you actually look into it yourself that you might (or might not) discover deeper context or lore.
However, he also said it in that tone of voice he uses when he's being joking and not super serious about whatever he's saying, so he's probably aware of all this.

My favorite type of games are 2D platformers, and side scrolling games, along with some rpg's. That being said I enjoy a good FPS every now and then, and Overwatch is a lot of fun. It's just fun to play, which is all that matters in the end.

In these many months I’ve played this FPS masterpiece the many heroes (31 right now) seasonal events and all things Overwatch has changed my life
I never really understood why people are okay with this game's lack of context of the universe, only accessible by actively leaving the game to go look at an external source, and arguably lack of content on launch, when Destiny did the same thing and almost everyone gave Destiny shit for it. Both aren't of the same type of game, I know that, but in a general sense they both have fun gameplay, and are both adding more and more content to this day. Also, agreed Johnny, I hate D.Va and her bullshit nuke thing ultimate that you can combine with the flight ability

For some reason I have avoided Overwatch until now. Not actively or even intentionally. I just never bothered to look it up or anything, so all I knew about it prior to this video was some of the characters (of which there is some risque fan art of, ahem) and it's like TF2. This review was really informative and I think I should give this a try soon. I used to play a lot of TF2 about 5 or so years ago but stopped eventually. This seems like the perfect game to get back into the FPS genre for me.

Overwatch caught my interest because the cinematic cutscenes and It makes me really want to see An Overwatch T.V. Series (and a movie). Imagine Justice League Unlimited but with Overwatch characters. As for the game, I never had so much fun with this shooter game since Splatoon. It becaming one of my favorite games of 2016, Hell maybe even Top 5. I'm really glad that I got in with this game.
I gave Overwatch a try, and I'm sad to say I wasn't _that_ fond of it. Now, to give some context, I come from an *extremely* competitive FPS background, dating all the way back to competitive Battlefield 1942, and includes the likes of *Monday Night Combat*; I've played with and against some of the best teams in _the world_. So naturally, when Overwatch was announced/released I was very excited.
However, once I really sank my teeth into it I found I was getting for frustrated than anything else. There are _so many_ skill-equalizing factors in this game that it just turned me off to the whole experience. Whether it's cheesy Ultimates that one-shot you, or obnoxious combos like Mei's freeze/icicle or McCree's trap/spam, they just sucked the fun out for me. I wouldn't make such a big deal about it normally (heck, I don't complain about CoD), but Overwatch has the potential to be a very well-balanced, competitive FPS. It's almost like it suffers from a lack of identity -- it lies in this awkward middle-ground where it isn't overly casual (since it still has a learning curve), but it isn't especially skill-based either.
That's not to say that Overwatch is a _bad game_, far from it, it's just not the game _I thought_ it would be. I like your comparison to Splatoon, because I think it's the most accurate one I've seen so far. It's not as openly casual as Splatoon, but it's not a game that I take too seriously, nor do I consider it to be the "next big esport" that everyone is heralding it as.
Yeah, much like it's tf2 counterpart, it's all just casual fun, which isint always a bad thing.
All ultimates have an audio queue to indicate when its coming
And are pretty easy to dodge if you know what to do when you hear the audio queue

All rely on the opponent getting near you
So just pick a character that can properly counter a situation like that
I think what you're getting at is that the game doesn't appeal to you the same way it does to most people. Like the players who got a little too attached to Smash Bros. Melee and felt alienated by Smash 4 and Brawl.
Honestly, I don't think you're giving the game the right perspective. Overwatch really is something you get the most out of by playing it with your friends. The way I see it, even if a game has glaring flaws, it really doesn't matter when you're all experiencing it together. Co-op platformers come to mind.
Going back to the Smash Bros. comparison, this is also why I hate how much flack Brawl got. Some people really can't just sit down and enjoy something for simply bringing people together.
Sure, Overwatch has flaws, and like anything, rightfully deserves criticism, but if you're worried about isolated competitive attributes, then you're not playing the game for the same reasons everyone else is. You're not fighting the other team, you all are.
I guess a good way to put it is that the game wasn't designed like a regular first-person shooter, and shouldn't be expected to hit the same chords. This is also a major reason why it has wider appeal to new players. This goes especially for people like me and my friends/family, who have played countless hours of the genre, but haven't actively played any of these games in a very serious light.
its called git gud. Every ult has some sort of audio clip. If you hear "its high noon" hide behind a wall and out of mccrees sight. If you hear "nerf this" run behind a wall to dodge the explosion. Meis circle can be easily dodged and ignored all together. It is skill-based as you need to know all characters skills, who counters who, and who is overall best for your playstyle.For me its tracer, shes my main. She can easily get behind enemy lines and take out support or a torbjorn turret. She can dodge shots easily with blinking and a good tracer is a necessity to a team and a powerhouse if you know how to use her. I frequently go 18/3 or 4 with her. Thats 18 eliminations with 3 or 4 deaths.
nickbx17 Well that's why I made sure to mention that OW still has a learning curve: There _is_ still an element of skill to it.
Anyways, with that said, you seem to have missed the point I was making about Ults. Predicting them is a non-issue, and I personally don't even need audio queues all that often (though they do still help a lot). If a Genji or Reaper has gone missing, chances are it's because they're preparing to flank you, for instance. My issues are that the Ults themselves tend to be very cheesy one-shot-kills with no obvious counters. Once a Reaper/McCree/Hanzo/etc. goes off there's very little you can do except _not be there_, and in a lot of cases that simply isn't an option.
I know that when _I_ use them it feels a bit _too easy_, like, "Welp, I have my ult, time to get another free triple kill." On the flip-side, dying to Ults is frustrating because it's usually not for lack of skill on my part, it's because I just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time -- something I have very limited control over.

That's the thing about Blizzard: they know how to create a sense of scale, and the Hollywood-level trailers and cinematic they've created go a long way to that. Those who've seen the World of Warcraft: Cataclysm and seen the rise of Deathwing know what I am talking about. Writing among Blizzard games is also equally phenomenal. I remember a time in WoW where I was in an elevator with two Orc generals talking about the all the death they've caused and how that has affected them. One of them talked about how the screams from the humans reminded him of pigs about to be slaughtered, and how he's managed to live with all the killing he's done by not eating pork. It's all very fascinating, considering how spread out the game is and how many characters you end up dealing with over the course of Warcraft's lengthy run. Blizzard has always been big on delivering a consistent level of quality with their products, and it shows.
I hate the keyboard... but I love the mouse. Wish there was a way to combine it with a like wii-nunchuck like thing.

Angus McIntyre Well, that depends on how fancy your mouse is. For first person shooters though you don't really need a lot of buttons. I can understand the need for a keyboard on like an RTS or a God Sim though. I hate controlling characters movement with the keyboard though, that's just me.
Thanks for convincing me to buy Overwatch with this video, Johnny, I'm having a damn blast and I usually don't enjoy multiplayer FPS games.
I personally am gonna get it for computer so that I don't have to pay for my internet like on ps4 and Xbox one. The only console unaffected by "paying for your internet" is the wii u, but it didn't come out for it.

My favorite thing about OW is the character diversity, playstyle diversity, and how you can swap heroes on the fly. Though it does mean you need to get used to playing many styles and switching between them instantly, nothing like trying to play Roadhog like Lucio or Hanzo like Winston and getting slaughtered while you frantically adjust.
I hate how people say Overwatch copied TF2.
The only similarities are diverse characters and online FPS. That's it

I'm with you John. I never cared for Overwatch, but my friend showed me the animated shorts. Now I wish it were a movie, a tv show, an anime, and I wish it had a single player campaign mode. I'm tempted to pick it up, but I really wish there was more than just multiplayer. The characters and their back stories are fantastic and the animation is Pixar quality. I hope Blizzard expands on this as someone whom this is their first blizzard property they are getting into as well.

Too bad you only started playing recently, d.va was pretty shit prior to this latest patch.
Even with the buff, she's still isn't a top-tier tank. Jack-of-all-trade, master-of-none is how I think of her. Which is probably why I like her, but most people prefer a more specialized tank.

She is an excellent turret killer, you're right. She can just put up her shield and boost towards a turret or Bastion and easily kill both. She's also good against snipers when using the same tactic. She may not kill them, but she can, at the least, root them out.
It is one of my favorite things to do with her, actually.
Also, her Defense Matrix is now toggleable and is an incredible skill to have.
Looking forward to the Star Fox marathon! Kinda hoping that Johnny will tackle the modern Zelda games soon, but no rush man, Love your videos!

If you really enjoyed Overwatch, then give Team Fortress 2 a try. I know you mention it in the review that your experienced the game through the memes, but I think you should at least give it a try. It's free (the exception is the Mann Co. Store but ya know it's Valve way of saying "Give us your money please.") and if you don't enjoy it, then you can just uninstall the game without losing a buck.
