Dealing with Sleep Anxiety

  • Words have a lot of power. And sometimes the label of “insomniac” or telling ourselves we will never get enough sleep becomes a self-fulfilling prophesy. Sleep is a gift. A time to imagine better and dream away. If you aren’t sleeping now, it can always improve and do so without pressure or expectations. Bedtime is a holiday that you have earned.

I usually get sleepy but then I get aware of the fact that I’m going to sleep and the tension comes back. It really does get better, some days are worse than others. May you be healed in Jesus name and enjoy the gift of rest!

I'm so sorry that this has become your pattern. I struggled with sleep issues before I started creating stories and meditations. It may not happen overnight, but sleep can be that special time for a mental vacation... where you do everything in your power to create a nice experience. And hopefully, with practice your body will feel safe and calmer during bedtime. It is so hard and you deserve to feel safe and fall asleep with ease. 💜

I read somewhere that the act of laying down in silence and darkness alone gives your body rest. It helped me realize that even if I’m not actually asleep, my body is still healing from the day before. That allowed me to stop worrying as much about actually falling asleep.

For me it comes from time to time. I think that’s why I tend to prefer longer videos or the long compilations, to give me more time to fall asleep without worrying about it. I like the idea of being knocked out for an extended period of time and then waking up super refreshed and ready for whatever comes up, but life doesn’t always work out that way. 😂

I have struggled falling asleep all my life because my brain doesn't want to shut off. I've depended on yours and others sleep stories for years. One of my doctors said that was an anxiety thing suggested a low dose of an SSRI so I didn't have to rely on sleeping pills and it made a huge difference. I still listen to your sleep stories every night though!

I have this same issue with my brain. Unfortunately, the SSRI didn’t cure me, so I’ve taken a sleep aid for 18 yrs & I’m also on anxiety meds. Unfortunately, now we know sleep meds are very unhealthy but I’m stuck. I still struggle sleeping even with medications. I do enjoy sleep stories tho.

Aw that's how I used to be too love.... now I say to myself when I lie down & get cosy "you're body is getting it's rest now so no need to worry about that. If you sleep too that's great but if not its fine, your body is still getting it's rest time in. Let's just daydream something nice (or enjoy Michelle's story) whilst we are here." It always works for me now. You're right, got to release the expectations and enjoy your rest time in a different way. ❤❤❤❤

Michelle, please help those of us who have a terrible physical and psychological reaction to waking up in the morning. I wake up hot and sometimes sweaty and all the overwhelm in my life folds in on me. And I need to go back to bed. I’m disabled from violence and have been recently retraumatized. I’m completely isolated and I want to get out of that. And I want to feel OK about having to be in bed during the day. I don’t want to feel like life is passing me by or any shame about it because I need rest I need safety and comfort and healing and no I don’t wanna stay in bed forever and there is an element of PTSD freeze and avoidance. Thank you for all that you do. You’re so fortunate to be beautiful inside and out. Beauty is power on this planet. I never looked or felt my earth age before. I always thought it would age gracefully but I also thought I had already seen my worst days and I was wrong. I’ve tried counseling and meditation and medication. I love nature but it’s very hard for me to leave the house. I don’t know if you send people healing energy upon request but if you have any good loving energy, comforting energy you could send me, I would really appreciate it. I’m sending love and gratitude to you and to anyone reading this. May life be gentler on us all and may all sentient beings have everything they need. May love & peace rain❤

I listen to your stories. And I wake up approx 25 minutes after (anyone who I listen to) ends. But then I will listen to an 8 hour long sleep meditation… and wake up 25 minutes after the talking ends. No fail. Every night. And then I wake up every 2 hours and have to start something new… or I will stay awake for 3-4 hours. I know asking for 8-10 hours of straight talking is a lot… it a lot of planning. It’s a lot of talking. It’s so many days of work to do that many hours of talking and then the piecing together… the light from the TV keeps me awake even more. I will continue to listen to everything you put out. And others too. And I LOVE your voice.
Someone please help me sleep a whole night (I take Trazadone, it wears off after 2 hours)

So if someone was 8 hours of nonstop talking it would help? I'm so sorry you've had to deal with this. Sometimes the hardest thing is retraining the mind and body to sleep consistently. There were years because it had become my pattern that I would always wake up between 3 and 4.

Honestly, Michelle, how often has someone walked past you to trip on a sidewalk crack, ran into a mailbox, signpost, or misjudged a curb-step?
Have you ever witnessed a taxi rear-end another vehicle?
You had me at eye- hair- and voice-colors on CZcams, then I appreciated the content of your monologues. I found your music.
If you ever cover a song, I suggest you sing, croon, or whisper “Look What You’ve Done to Me” (Steven Foster & Boz Scaggs).
I’ve been told Boz is my doppelgänger (I too play guitar) but my voice bends more baritone (Neil Diamond, Paul Rogers, Terry Kath).
