I was with Simon Weston in the Welsh Guards and it’s truly remarkable how he’s turned out . A true ambassador, a motivation for many and an inspiration for all. He gone on leaps and bounds and perhaps in some ways this was his destiny and calling. God bless you Simon .
I was 4 when the conflict broke out and grew up not knowing much about it. I lived, (still do), in a tiny village in the Scottish highlands where most servicemen were RN or joined the Queens Own Highlanders and went to Northern Ireland. I do remember growing up seeing Mr Weston on the tv a lot and he always seemed so upbeat and happy. Watching him being assessed by the consultant at the start of this, I can’t imagine the pain he went through…..it seems cruel he wasn’t given pethidine at least while being manhandled.
