Slightly different scenarios tbh Rules of engagement are a thing.. no doubt hostile persons are aware of this and use it to their advantage though. Not saying everyone to hop off a dinghy is a hostile actor but to say there are none mixed in would be plain ignorance, naivety and pretty poor judgement. Our security services must have a lot on their plate I imagine, vetting them all. Although an actual upfront military attack on us would surely generate an appropriate response without meeting the requirements for one of those pesky war crime labels or a human rights violation 😅 but hey FAFO innit

This is nothing more or less than a performative ritual that ALL new Argentine presidents have to go through: it's expected of them in the same way that it's expected of ANY new British Prime Minister to make a statement about his committment to the NHS. The sacred idols have to be honoured. The second half of the ritual is that the British Foreign Secretary (or the PM, if they aren't too busy with important things) makes a statement re-confirming Britain's position on the Falklands, then everyone can breath a sigh of relief, forget about the issue for the next four years, and get on with things they think they can actually fix.
The only reason that so much fuss is being made this time is that the left-wing press (i.e. most of them) are salivating over the propect of a shooting war between a "far right" (shocker: he isn't) led Argentina and a "far right" (ditto) led UK, so that they can criticism both of them. Remember, you didn't hear a peep out of them when the last two LEFT WING Argentine presidents said pretty much the same thing, except a few half-hearted attempts to shame Britain about "colonialist" hangovers.

Also, there’s the little problem of Argentina’s previous attempt to capture the islands and their utter defeat and humiliation.

Greetings from Argentina! President Javier Milei is not planning to take the islands militarily. No one has nothing to fear here. We have no military plans. We have many problems to address here in Continental Argentina. What Milei does is abide by the Argentine Constitution and keep the diplomatic efforts to reunite those territories in the very long term.
If, maybe, Argentina improves economically and we increase economic integration with the Islands, we forsee the possibility to enter in negotiations about a gradual merging.
