I do like how Simon always brings it back to the Falkland Islanders. It's their land and their choice. He understands the principle for which the war was fought.
@@seniorslaphead8336 he’s a true British boy at heart. But knows it belongs to Argentina underneath. It wasn’t really worth it 😔
Its unthinkable today's government could defend the Falklands. They can't even defend the south coast of England against people landing in rubber dinghies armed with iphones and Nike trainers. 😅
They have woke people preventing them form being sent back.
Slightly different scenarios tbh Rules of engagement are a thing.. no doubt hostile persons are aware of this and use it to their advantage though. Not saying everyone to hop off a dinghy is a hostile actor but to say there are none mixed in would be plain ignorance, naivety and pretty poor judgement. Our security services must have a lot on their plate I imagine, vetting them all. Although an actual upfront military attack on us would surely generate an appropriate response without meeting the requirements for one of those pesky war crime labels or a human rights violation 😅 but hey FAFO innit

Thank you!! I’ve been saying this on every post that is miss informing people!!
Exactly!!
This is nothing more or less than a performative ritual that ALL new Argentine presidents have to go through: it's expected of them in the same way that it's expected of ANY new British Prime Minister to make a statement about his committment to the NHS. The sacred idols have to be honoured. The second half of the ritual is that the British Foreign Secretary (or the PM, if they aren't too busy with important things) makes a statement re-confirming Britain's position on the Falklands, then everyone can breath a sigh of relief, forget about the issue for the next four years, and get on with things they think they can actually fix.
The only reason that so much fuss is being made this time is that the left-wing press (i.e. most of them) are salivating over the propect of a shooting war between a "far right" (shocker: he isn't) led Argentina and a "far right" (ditto) led UK, so that they can criticism both of them. Remember, you didn't hear a peep out of them when the last two LEFT WING Argentine presidents said pretty much the same thing, except a few half-hearted attempts to shame Britain about "colonialist" hangovers.
Excellent comment. A very cogent nailing of the whole issue.
If you compare the current Argentine military to that of the UK it would literally be a war crime to have a conflict with them! They would be annihilated in under a week.
The four Typhoons based on the Falklands could probably deal with them on their own.
I watched a simulation based on it.
The 4 typhoons absolutely wiped the entire air force before the argies got a shot off.

How could Argentina 'take back the Falklands' ?
The Falkland islands have been British long before Argentina even existed .
They think that the oil off shor is good. But it is a low grade apparently. Will make money but not that much on the market.
Britain left the islands in 1774, never protesting or challenging the 32 Spanish and 5 Argentine governors, any claim prescribed by acquiescence after 55 years of complete silence. They had absolutely no right to take them from Argentina that was already settled in 1833
How can he Take Back Something he never Owned ?
BECAUSE YOUR BRITISH HISTORY IS A LIE
It's not a 'colonial issue' the Falklands were uninhabited when they were initially settled by the French in very small numbers, the Falkland Islanders are if British descent.
He's playing a dangerous game here, Argentina was not uninhabited when it was colonized by Spain.. is he planning to return it to the indigenous peoples? Thought bot
FRANCE LAY CLAIM TO IT AND SOLD IT TO SPAIN THEN TRANSFERRED TO ARGENTINA AND SETTLED THE AREA THERE THEN FORCEFULLY REMOVED BY UK NAVY
He’ll be good for Argentina. Ignore the Falklands claims …
If GB news was really a right wing channel and not controlled opposotion. They would be supporting this man, Argentina has absolutely no intention of invading the Falklands and the only reason he made those comments is that he upset some Argentine Falklands vets by saying he respected Thatcher and wanted to bring her policies to Argentina
He sounds like a Communist. Wants to rescue the hyperinflating US Dollar by dropping the Peso and replacing it with $US, to soak up some that hyperinflation. This is only a very short term life extension. Both states will sink together.
What did he actually say? They didn't give a direct quote.
But he said he would go about it diplomatically and let the islanders decide but in the meantime he said Argentina needs to make improvements so he is aware of his priorities. Anyway the islanders are mostly British as if theyre gonna vote for Argentina. And as if hes gonna invade its so far fetched. In 1982 they were under dictatorship completely different to this....British media are blowing this out of proportion.
They are mostly Scots decendency
Una voz sensata .
Very nice to hear from Simon.
This isn't serious, he's playing to his supporters. Argentina has MAJOR problems he needs to address first. Ironically the Falklands War was initiated by the Junta after it crashed the economy, route 1... distract Argentinians from the problems at home with a bit of Sabre rattling
We desperately need a Javier Milie as Primeminister.
Someone who actually understands the value of freedom..instead of the nasty little control freaks we have now.
except that his actions here in wanting territorial expansion rather than concentrating on domestic issues have undermined all aspirations for other right-wing (nationalist-leaning) leaders to emerge. the guy is making the right look stupid AF
It's a joke that I reckon all serious Argentinians get...even the ones that actually think the Falklands should be theirs. Even if the islands were just defended by a single platoon of Royal Marines as was the case in 1982, that would be enough to see off an Argentine 'invasion' nowadays, given how their capability has eroded since then. We should all stop reacting to this nonsense.
Tories can lead by example and take all migrants over to the Falklands..then defend it together ❤️
That's not fair to the locals.
@@AshPrimeDCFC well said 👏

All that high tech and only the RNLI can detect dinghies.
Sports Direct will have to set up a branch on the Falklands, where else are they going to get their Nike trainers ?
Whilst the British Army does have a larger and better force than Argentina does.... If Argentina does decide to invade, I guarantee you Sunak will be regretting sending and wasting half of our resources to Ukraine as well as the severe cuts to the military that have been going on the past few years - I've said this for years to people... what the conservatives have done to our Military alone is absolutely shameful (not mentioning the other ways they have let us down)
Ridiculous nonsense. Argentina wouldn’t get a single soldier on the islands. The islands are perfectly well defended. Also, everything we have given to Ukraine was due for disposal anyway. Giving it to Ukraine actually saved us money. 🤦🏻♂️
We have far more troops on the island, some of the most advanced fighter jets in the world in the Typhoon and just one Type 45 would end everything not withstanding an Astute attack Submarine liotering around to sink anything that even came close. Whilst I agree our current politicians are a bunch of utter fools a Labour goverment would be far be worse for our military as they would gut it even more as they have always done.
The Falklands were British before Argentina existed as a nation. Argentines have never lived there. The native population has never been Argentine, has never voted to be Argentinian and has never displaced a native Argentinian contingent. So their claim is baseless.

@@rewdwarf123 So? I'm just saying many argentinians are used to live in a cold, windy place.

The Argentinian claim over the Falkland Islands might have some credence if the islands were visible off the Argentine shore and not over 820 nautical miles distant with a long established British population and British administration.
