    Over the next few days, word of Chen's victory against Akutagawa spreads and Chen becomes a local celebrity in Shanghai. Jingwu's students begin to look up to Chen as their new instructor and that incurs the jealousy of Huo Ting'en.
    Ting'en and the senior Jingwu members demand that Chen either leaves Mitsuko or the school, and Huo uses the opportunity to settle his personal vendetta against Chen, by challenging Chen to a fight. Chen defeats Huo eventually, with much reluctance and leaves with Mitsuko.
    Huo Ting'en is humiliated by his defeat and gives up his position as master of Jingwu before leaving to join his prostitute lover. Jingwu's members eventually discover Huo Ting'en's relationship with the prostitute and reprimand him. Huo learns his lesson and returns to Jingwu.

    You guys don't understand. This scene showed the impact of the new techs to the old traditional Chinese culture. Jet Li in the movie played the guy who went Japan for finding the way to develop the old China martial arts. He represented the Chinese people who tried to learn the modern technologies for helping their home in 1800s. It is a spirit to become strong and face the challenges.

    I really like this scene. You can see how at first hes just trying to avoid attacks because he doesnt want to fight Tingen. He gets struck once, and starts actively blocking his attacks while showing he could hit him while his guard is down, but cant because hes his friend. But when the other students start saying that his girlfriend should get out, he beats the crap out of Tingen, but still feels bad about it.

When they see their way has failed they adopt a new master (the one who beat their old one) this is why martial arts always keeps growing. It's like evolution!

    I love how Jet Li incorporates a modern boxing style to his martial arts. His opponent has no chance. When he does the boxing style of constantly hopping and moving left to right, keeps Jet Li's movement flowing and constant... So when he decides to dodge or attack, he is already in the act of moving... So he is almost a full step faster than his opponent. This jump step style is actually utilized in Tae Kwon Do... but they do not take full advantage of it.

    As a Chinese, I can say one thing to the whole world: Kungfu is actually the greatest martial arts ever exist. Sad thing is, very few people are able to achieve the highest level in Kungfu. It not only takes hardest body work(all time training everyday), but it more focuses on mind and spirit improvement, connecting to the nature, understanding the mechism of the universe etc..Real Kungfu masters can kill anyone easily but they never wanna get in a fight(unless have to). They never brag about their skills, always look normal, nice, get along with anybody well. But the learning process is so hard that no parents in China will send their kids to learn serious Kungfu any more because it seems like abuse. And Kungfu masters are rarely seen now, I do not know if they still exist, most Chinese now only believe in western fighting shit because they are easier to learn. You just work on your muscles and repitition of some moves. sigh

    • @ZxLonelyRangerxZ
      @ZxLonelyRangerxZ Před 9 lety +3

      Dave Nicol Ah yes , then i agree with that . Every master has a code or life values that they live by , the wisest and smartest are always the one to win in a fight ( Provided they practice ) . Though i do not agree with what he said about western martial arts, there is actually alot of moves in boxing , wrestling , bjj , etc etc same can be said for the likes of muay thai , however they always focus on the same repetition of moves to build up muscle memory and that's very important , and to add on bruce lee once said 'Use only that which works, and take it from any place you can find it.' . Hence why there's actually alot of moves being repeated in a fight , Don't tell me you plan to use all 100+ type of moves from your martial art , because truth be told your body probably remembers half that number and will only use lesser than that amount of number in a fight . Just look at Wing chun or Shan da .

Its amazing how no proffesional fighter could do something even close to this because real fighting and "movie Kung fu" is so different. I remember the movie Who am I with Jackie chan on the rooftop and the white guy with his kicks is a proffesional and had so many problems with the timing and staying on the same spot while doing his double kick so Brad Alan had to stunt for him. Only the Chinese can do these kinds of amazing Art, even the Matrix fights are made by a chinese yuen Wo Ping.

    Funny how everyone who watches UFC is an instant martial arts expert. It's always been common knowledge that kung fu movies are over the top and unrealistic XD. They're supposed to be. Just like any action movie really. Can you imagine how short the Rambo movies would be if they were realistic? Cool scene anyhow :)

    I live in Asia and I can verify that pretty much all Asian people do is go down to their local tea houses and dojos to stand around and watch the local martial arts masters fight.
    Fortunately, there is a steady stream of martial arts masters since around one in 10 is a triple black belt or higher and basically everybody studies with a Chinese master at some point in their youth.
    Also, things frequently speed up to triple normal speed. Very handy when you're late for work. Not so good when you're facing a group of 15 or so ninjas hired to take revenge on you for your father killing a local farmer... Fortunately, that only happens once or twice a day.

    • @eschelar
      @eschelar Před 10 lety +59

      M Howard Wow. Seriously? Come on. When I was walking home from the tea shop through the rice paddies, I passed a knife shop, a noodle pulling shop and at least 17 Chinese Dojos, where I witnessed a 3 year old Japanese boy get into a fight with 12 large Korean men armed with machine guns and katanas. They were diced and neatly stacked into piles in alphabetical order before even a single drop of blood hit the ground. The 3 year old then bowed to respect their memory and went into another dojo on the fourth floor by jumping from the backs of nearby mosquitoes.
      This happened eleven times!
      My home is only 15 feet away from the tea shop!
      How could you seriously not see that in your 2 years in China?
      Or perhaps a better question is, how could you not understand that I'm just making a joke about a stereotype?

    • @eschelar
      @eschelar Před 10 lety +9

      Efraim Godah I guess. Except that the word "Dojo" is Japanese, so presumably anyone who has even the tiniest bit of familiarity with the subject would realize that I was spewing Bullshit a la Mode.
      Of course, while I have studied Chinese (mandarin) and a little Japanese, I've never studied Chinese (or Japanese) martial arts, so I don't know how serious they are about the language side... Also, most of them for some inexplicable reason pronounce "sifu" like "seefoo"... maybe it's Cantonese?

I have hardly seen him off balanced. even when seemingly off balanced he has the ability to hit, he can locate positions and movements extremely fast and sometimes even without seeing them!!!!!
