    Having grown up in NYC, where our communities were intertwined, a black person that spoke Spanish (Cuban, DR, Puerto Rico, Panama) was the norm. I think it is odd that people have not seen a black Latino. Have met some folks from DR here in Atlanta that thought it was funny that people saw them as an oddity.

    • @seanwright8786
      @seanwright8786 Před 2 měsíci

      Exactly. I find that Latinos outside of NYC are not exposed to that. I'm from Brooklyn, and when my mom married my little sister's father, that was my exposure to Afro-Panamians. He is a Black Panamanian from Bocas del Toro. His mother was a Black Nicaraguan. His family was dark-skinned and they spoke Spanish and English. I learned from interaction with him, his family, and the environment of Brooklyn (especially school).
      Now living in Georgia, and working construction, the Mexicans look at me like I am an anomaly when they hear me speak Spanish. The Venezuelans are not so amazed because there are significant amount of Afro-Venezuelans. I love the respect and acceptance that I receive once it's known that I speak Spanish.
      Everything this brother has experienced , I've experienced the same things.

      @@edthebank4115 Definitely worth it. A few days ago, I said one sentence to a new girl at work, who doesn't speak any English. I think the little bit that I said helped her feel more comfortable. Before that, It seemed as if she would try to shrink when she saw me. As if she was afraid I'd say something in English and she wouldn't know how to respond. Now she's more relaxed and makes casual remarks when she sees me.

    I actually found your channel because I was looking for Spanish telenovelas with black people. Like, not as side characters, but as part of the main cast, and...surprise, surprise, found no telenovelas of this kind on CZcams, but your video came up. Happy I found it. I think the mindset of what a Spanish speaker looks like is a mixture of personal exposure and media representation. There are a lot of Spanish-fluent black South Americans, but they do not get the kind of exposure as one would think. I'm learning Spanish myself, along with two other foreign languages. Please keep being you and I'll keep being me. Mantienes hacer que haces, mi amigo. Look forward to more vids.

As someone who speaks English and Spanish, I would get shocked looks from Black and Latino folks because of being able to speak Spanish with ease and without shame. It is so nice to see another Panamanian and represent the culture. Continuar representando la cultura y joder a los que odian.

    As far as I know, I’m not Hispanic, but I am Cajun. Nobody was willing to believe I was just a black dude who spoke Spanish. It’s all good tho, I’m still Boricua at heart. 🇵🇷

Many just don't wanna believe what they hear, and yes black trip more when they find out I can. Who the hell are you when they find out. Most times its negative reactions. Most Spanish men seems to brush us aside and think the one thing we after is ....you guess it... Spanish cats. If that was the case more black men would learn. @@jimjimsandbern9382 not sure what you mean you never use the subjunctive? That means you are not speaking correct spanish at a given time because you are saying something that requires subjunctive.
      Beginners don't know the subjunctive so they are limited in their speech. Intermediate level does know some subjunctives, if not, then they are not at the Intermediate level.
      Example of bad spanish that would require the subjunctive:
      I hope you come to my house.
      Beginner: espero vienes a mi casa (bad)
      Intermediate/advance: espero que vengas a mi casa (correct spanish).
      So again I don't know what you mean that you never use the subjunctive. That would mean you are saying a lot of things wrong in the language.

I think it is normal, but that because it is normal in places like center America, South and in Spain and I actually left the bubble that was placed around everyone and actually traveled to places which destroys the stereotype that People from the North have like Canada and U.S.. I don't mention Mexico because they have all colours speaking Spanish as there first language yes, even Whites. Did people forgot as well that European have stole and mistreated People from africa and brought them to all of America not just North America which also includes Mexico too.
