I was in the break room with a few of my Army buddies one time, and somehow to we got to the topic of state songs. When I got a turn and they played Indiana's, I just about died when it mentioned cornfields on the very first verse 😭

I didn't realize this was such a sad song. I wish I had more positive memories of Indiana. It is people's home state and they do love it. And though I've had very significant experiences there in the military, i've never seen the Wabash. But it sounds lovely.
this is depressing as hell can't we get a nice anthem? there is alot more to this state than walking by rivers while everyone you love dies..
I think it's nice still, why say that to make others feel a way, just keep to yourself but ok, I'm sure it can't be that bad once ya get to know it, but not trying to offend or be rude, but still, and sorry ya feel like that...
I think this is a beautifully good and well written song, and I love it to bits, it's about loss of a loved one, so it's not going to sound like ob la de ob la da, is it?
there's also "back home again in indiana", which has a similar tune, is more well-known (played at Indy 500), and is about walking along the wabash without the depression

Not so much a state song as a song that got stuck with an undeserved reputation for being a trademark of a state.
