  • I picked up an old 2011 Marin Pine Mountain 29er to restore and I couldn't resist giving it a good pedal before I tore it down... Is an old steel hardtail any good in 2023? Let's find out!
    Let me know in the comments what direction you think I should go with the build!

    In 2013 I got my first 29r , a Scott scale 930 , its carbon, super fast with a Fox front fork , I sold it but wish I didn't because it was so fun to ride 😊

    I use my old Haro Mary, steel-frame bike for gravel road and multi-use path riding. It has a SRAM X9, 9-speed triple drivetrain, coupled to a SRAM crank. It has a 100mm travel RockShox Tora, 32mm stanchion air fork, and Avid BB7 brakes. If you look at old mountain bikes like this as flat-bar gravel bikes or super-hybrids, there is nothing wrong with them. They can still be a lot of fun.

    If it's cromoly, then yeah, it's good! I rather have a cromoly frame then aluminum!

      It is! I actually enjoyed riding it, even if the ht angle is steeper than my road bikes 😅🤘

    Isn't it more of gear adjustment issue if your chain drops between? L screw is not tight enough? I would just stick with 3x10 if you already got enduro bike it's nice to have bike with big gears for asphalt etc. I'm marin fanboy still got my 2009 alpine trail 26" and 2022 san quentin 2 27,5".

      Yeah I adjusted the limit screws when I got home and it's WAY BETTER and I agree it'll be nice to have the extra gears for cruising around.

    Try adding drop bars and, voila, you have a gravel bike!

    He makes it like he found the bike in a Tomb and it will fall apart moving .

      You're not far off 😅😅🤷. I'll resurrect it soon enough, waiting on parts. 🤞 This bike is great though. I like all my projects but this one has been fun and I'm growing fond of it being in my stable.

    Easy fix, swap to XT brakes, service the fork and change it to a single speed to become a real man. LOL

      @evelkestriegel  Před 6 měsíci

      Bro idk if I'm ready for a single speed yet 😅🤘

      @evelkestriegel ... honestly, it's the perfect frame for an SS. And I wouldn't worry about the single speed ... you absolutely are in the right gear ... about 10% of the time LOL. It'll make you stronger and give you the ability to spin at well over 100 comfortably

      Haha I have a base knowledge but I rode the bike without adjusting it first admittedly, after adjusting the limit screws when I got home it's better. Definitely bent the rim though.
