- Today I am doing a video how-to on updating your PS4 with a USB drive. I go through common issues and errors you may encounter like SU-41333-4 and how to fit them also. Thank you, this worked perfectly for me after the "factory reset" thingy. The directory naming was a bit unclear on the official website, so I'm very grateful for this clip. 5th clip I checked, first one to actually show it right. thanks again
*edit I spoke too soon. It started copying the update file, and then after finishing it blinked white, then rebooted and now it can't recognize the drive again... good times :P
*it kept rebooting after not finding the usb, going directly into safemode but not offering the options. I pulled the power and after re-plugging I could choose update , and it found the file. so now we'll see...
*it updated, I accepted the terms of agreement and it said it needed to reboot. Now stuck in the "can't start" shit again
*day after. It didn't work. Might need a new hardrive. I'm extremely disappointed at Sony for this

@@BowTheGoatGaming No. After scouring the web and official supports it seams like a dead end that requires a repair from Sony. Which is incredibly frustrating.
I'm not gonna pay 120£ for a repair, and have just surrendered and will buy the PS5. It was surprising how stressful it was, and I just needed it to end.
Henrik Wenne I got mines back to work & dodnt need to change the hard drive but I ended up taking it out & putting it back in... I also went to Walmart & bout a 2T Game Drive thinking it was the hard drive🤦🏿♂️. Anyway I plugged that up to the PS4 Pro, entered the flash drive with the how the video said to and went to option 6. It got out of safe mode but errthing got deleted in the process had to start over😒

So I’ve followed all the steps, but then after the update finishes it brings me back to the whole “checking system storage” part, and then tells me I need to update it, but when I click okay error (CE-34788-0) comes up. Anyone know what to do?

We followed the video step by step and it worked perfectly up until the very end when it was supposed to be restarting. At that point, it show a loading screen at about 27%. Eventually it went to 100 and we tried the process again but it took us back to the same loading screen. If we can fix this I’d be so grateful.

Thanks for upload. Just installed new SSD to PS Pro. There are 2 files to download on PS site. At first I tried to install the "update" file when I needed to install the system "re-installation" file. Make sure you are using the correct download if you are fitting a new SSD otherwise you will get a message saying that the file isn't recognized, and a CE-347880 error code.

After I select “Update” it turns off and and takes me back to the screen that says “Cannot start the PS4. Connect the DUALSHOCK 4 using the USB cable, and then press the PS button” I followed all the steps, What am I doing wrong?
You dont have to do this. Press the power button on you PS4 until you hear a second beep. Leave it until a screen with 7 options shows up. Try the last 3 options. 6th tends to work most times. Your welcome

Have you tried this “To enter Safe Mode, turn off the PS4 by pressing the power button. Press and hold the power button. Release it after you've heard two beeps.”
LetsFixIt brother I tried it put me in the safe mode setting where I can pick if I wanna restart the PS4 or database ect I pick number 7 like last time so it can delete useless shit n others but it jus kept me in the loop the first time i was stuck in sAfe mode last time it didn’t do this to me

If you just got it a few months ago it might be under warranty. Maybe send it into Sony.

I need help I’m still in the safe mode loop for months I just got the usb because nothing else worked , I used step 3 on safe mode update system and it says it’s updating and when it’s done it restarts and it takes me back to the safe mode loop :((( I haven’t even had my PS4 for a year smh :/

Yep after the system copies everything from the thumb drive to ps4, I click on "update" and states that system will update after restarting.
Once it restarts, it only sends me back to safe mode stating that I need to update the latest version.
THIS PS4 IS ONLY 2 YEARS OLD, BARELY PLAYED (MAYBE 60 HOURS ALLTOGETHER).

Hi, thank you for this video. Iv followed all instructions but it still ‘cannot find the update file’ on my usb. The only thing i can see different is my file has an Internet explorer icon next to it, and not a file icon like yours has... would this make a difference?
Davina Muirhead sounds like you have either just the link to the file on the usb or something went wrong with the download. What size is the file?
@@letsfixit4404 same problem with me. i chose the app word to save the file. so it has a word icon on it. the names and the size of the file is abouletly the same. and it gives me the error the file cannot be find. what is worng with what im doing. about to lose my mind.

I followed your steps and instead of restarting n loading into the blue page, I get out back to the black screen saying
cannot start the PS4
Connect the DUALSHOCK 4 using USB cable, and then press PS button.

In safe mode its stuck on option number 7 it will not move to option number 3 I think its the harddrive it will not install update

Why do I only have option 7?
When I go to safe mode, I don't have the 8 options on my screen. Is it because I have the ps4 slim? Does it make a difference?
Luis Ramirez does it say “safe mode” at the top of the screen? You should have between 7-8 options but it should mostly be the same.

None really, when I turn on the ps4, it tells me to plug in controller with the USB cord and after when I press ok it says to plug in USB device

I broke the port on the mother board (the clip thingy)
@@anklez_2k690 check if ur disk drive still works like pull out and back in and if not then take it som1 and get it sorted but the disk drive worked for me and when I turned the ps on it all worked not sure how but it did.

Slauxtrr format the usb using your Mac choose either exfat or fat32 my guess is that you are using a usb drive that is formatted NTFS and that’s why you can’t see it on your MacBook

Are you getting any error code?
When u hit format it says it contains the version of Windows that you are using formating this volume could cause your computer to stop working
Sounds like it not your usb stick. Windows can’t format the active OS partition so it would stop you. I would verify it’s the usb stick

Make sure the downloaded update file is saved with the file name "PS4UPDATE.PUP" and saved in the "UPDATE" folder.

I can’t download the update file on chrome

Make sure your USB is formatted to FAT32. Make sure you created and named the folders on the USB correctly. Then there are 2 different download files you can get on the PlayStation website. If the one you used didn't work then try to download the other one. But in case you didn't know, if you update your PS4 with the second download file, the one that is a larger file size on the PlayStation website, then your PS4 will be completely reset and you will lose all of your save game data and saved screnshots and videos, so this method should be a last resort only after trying every other method. Can someone tell me what the file need to open in... I’m doing everything right it’s just not recognizing the drive and I think it has something to do with what the file is opened in. I’m using a hp labtop
Make sure you format the drive like in the video, Make sure the folder structure and names of the folders and update file are correct. If you still have issues you may want to try a different thumb drive
LetsFixIt well everything is correct it’s what does the file need to open as like it’s not recognizing the flash drive because there is nothing to open the file if you know what I mean

LetsFixIt yea it’s in safe mode and I have the update on my thumb drive but it makes update download through internet explorer or some other app so when I go to transfer the file it has that little E on the side of the file instead of like yours is a blank white page

ThaOnlyKen this video tutorial is just how to update your PS4 by USB. This will not solve SU-42118-6. For that error you must troubleshoot your blue ray drive and why it’s not working

CJS AyyMenn was your PS4 able to boot to normal mode before? Do you get any messages before it goes to safe mode? You might want to try a full reinstall instead of an upgrade.

Mines will literally do all the reinstall steps but will turn off and back on and then go to the safe mode loop all over and force me to do this all over again
Could be a bad hard drive. You might try and replace the drive.

I are a few possibilities I can’t think of. Try using a smaller usb drive to do the update and do the full update not the smaller upgrade file. It also could be corruption on the hard drive and the drive is going bad. You could try replacing the hard drive.

It wrote cannot find update file
Make sure the folders and file are correctly named. Make sure the usb drive is fully inserted into the PS4 as I know it can be hard to push them in depending on the usb shape. Also use a usb thumb drive stick not an external hard drive as they usually don’t work. Otherwise I might try a different usb thumb drive stick.
