Thanks for this review! Will definitely get one, as I mostly shoot analog film at night.
Fantastic video, getting it after watching this. Thank you.
I have this tripod. The quick release plate on top of the ball head will not turn, even with the set screw totally open-end or loosened. Any suggestions?
Can you change head of this tripod or all tripod can change head 😅?
it's a pity you need to get the Zero Y with arcaplate if you need to use a L-bracket. Isn't there another way to use a L-bracket on the F38 head?
I have been using this tripod for a number of months. Love the weight and how easy it is to deploy. However, there are many, many issues with function that mean I will not continue using it. The plate becomes so loose, so frequently that I miss many shots. The plate interface with the ball head looses the covering paint, and after a short period of time no longer glide in and out and becomes stuck. I have had to replace the plate a number of times. The center column wobbles, even when the column lever is very tight. So, there is drift when using even a modest telephoto lens. It does work well at times, but the frequency of technical fails means it is to unreliable for me. Bummer.
Just received mine and the center column is unbelievably tight. Was yours that tight? Ulanzi says it’s supposed to be tight. What? Why would a tripod stem be purposely tight?
The exact reason I sold it
Vanguard VEO 3 is what I use. Cheaper than this one, shorter, similar weight, very good features. Bought it as a travel tripod for the lightweight and sturdy design. Can be used as a monopod too. Thanks for the review always good to see what’s available
Thank you man! I will have to take a look at this one too, I haven't seen it before!
Since I'm currently looking for a travel tripod I also had a look at the VEO 3 after your comment. Unless I'm missing something, that one weights 2kg? That would then be double of the Ulanzi, so not comparable at all
I bought the f38 version (around 350usd ) along with some other items. When I was about to use it for the second time I noticed that one small knob controlling the panning of the head is gone. I contacted customer support with the intention of getting a replacement knob and they stated that in order to get a replacement knob I need to place another order (for anything else). Basically they are constraining me to place another order if I want to have a fully functional tripod. They stated that the item I need is to small to be sent because it can get list while shipping.
Also the camera plate of the tripod gets loose from the camera very easily if you hang it to the shoulder strap.Dropped my camera but I was very very lucky as the terrain was deep sand
☺sorry for this. Good feedback for someone who was about to click BUY button.
Thank you
Came for the tripod but stayed for the epic timelapses. 😍
Haha thank you mate, really appreciate that! Having such a light tripod almost means I took more timelapses I reckon
Good review, its the second one I have seen about this pod, and I suppose the only pain is the shoe attachment, I suppose that means going for the Zero Y version. All in all it does indeed seem to be the business. 👍
Thank you Andrew! The ease of use to clip in the F38 is still too much of a win for me. I’d definitely be recommending over the zero y personally! Guess it does depend what other accessories you’re using though
Thank you for the video! Is the Y38 head compatible with PD capture 3 plate? Thanks!
THIS
Great video, thanks, Just purchased, Wife not Happy.
Is your bag in the video (7:33) the same one as is in the description? They look different
i would like to know it too. did you discovered what model is?
Could you tell me how many millimeters the diameter of the center column is? This is very important to me.
It's triangular and takes only Zero Y columns.
think Heipi tripod is good alternate to consider.
I haven’t seen this one! Will have to check it out!
I looked at the Zero Y as an option as I want to keep it Arca-Swiss compatible, but the ballhead limit of 3KGs put me off. An EOS R5 with 28-70 f/2 weighs 2.2Kgs, so I wouldn't be comfortable with that much expensive gear in play.
Hey Stew! Where did you see the 2.2kg? From their website I believe I saw the Zero Y ballhead is 5kg while the F38 is 6kg.
Also worth checking which arca-swiss options you’re using? The specific F38 plate will still fit into other arca-swiss tripods that you have to manually tighten yourself, just not any that lock in automatically like a capture clip design. I was still using the F38 plate in my mini vlogging tripod for example!
@@TKNORTH Ulanzi website has the Zero Y ballhead at 3KGs max weight limit and 6KGs for the F38. If the F38 plate fits in a standard Arca-Swiss clamp then it may be worth considering for me. 2.2Kgs on a 3KG head is not stable/reliable/strong enough IMO.
@@TKNORTH do you know if the f38 can fit an L bracket?
@@TKNORTH I'm not sure I'd trust a 6KG head with 2.2 of load, but that could depend on balance. I'm using a 20KG head for a Sony 200-600 (camera + lens = 3KG), because a 12KG head wasn't holding. Great vid btw, all content no filler 🙂
Unfortunately the f38 won't fit your standard L brackets!
I bought this tripod and the center column is unbelievably tight. Is your center column that tight? Did you need to put some lubricant on it?
Yeah what the hell it feels horrible on mine too. Does it need grease? Kind of disappointing for the price.
I returned mine and got the Heipi travel tripod instead. I did try a dry lube made for guns on the center column on the Ulanzi and it did nothing. I haven’t gotten to try out the heipi yet.
@@novphotobeagle madness. I do love the ulanzi eco system but this item is expensive !
not bad not bad
Thanks for the information, that the F38 is NOT COMPATIBLE with the PeakDesign Clip!
they have a new adapter plate now where you can transfer to both
@@alexkennedy5133 but only in certain directions, so have to decide on that and know if it's important to you or not.
How can you make a video tripod review, say that panning and tilting is 'super smooth' and then literally not show any of the panned/tilted footage? What a waste of time.
