I am a miner, my father, and two grandfathers before all miners in the California gold regions. Mining has become a very environmental conscience business since the 1,800s. They are not going to change the swamp.
As long as Florida keeps voting for the GOP, none of nature is safe.
Its important to know WHAT substance they want to mine. Even 3 miles away, tailings & airborne waste could be just as harmful as the extensive groundwater extraction.
I'm not confident that the way we monitor mining operations has kept pace with modern environmental standards. If jobs are at stake, there might a temptation to turn a blind eye if something slips.
All those issues, and toss in the prevalence of fracking - both hydraulic and CO2 (or "dry") fracking. Recipes for disaster, but who's watching???

To be fair when you look at the sun you feel the burn and have incentive to look away. During a solar eclipse the intensity is reduced but the damage is still being done. I only realized this after a bit of research. So the fact that they trivialize it by calling them "cool glasses" is putting people in danger.
Why tomorrow? It's not happening until Monday.
This kind of news will ramp up until November.

I landed at Amsterdam airport in the Netherlands and, completely by mistake, walked around customs. Within seconds, Dutch police had me by both arms. We did resolve the matter.

I'm glad I don't fly anymore. Quality control is suffering at all levels. The public doesn't help, either ... showing up in T-shirts, performing personal hygiene in their seats, and creating incidents because they can't control their behavior. Ugh!

Like you, I grounded myself for all the same reasons quite a few years ago. Nowadays, I'm really amazed when the news reports about record HIGH numbers of air travelers all over the USA. What gives? Cheap fares? Or is it a new sector of society that never got to experience the era when flying was convenient & friendly?
@@gardengeek3041 I think part of it is that people travel at the drop of a hat. Just a few years ago, people flew for a vacation or to visit relatives; now they fly for a weekend getaway or to see a concert. They have disposable income and don't bother to save money. Credit card debt is sky high and nobody wants to open a savings account for 0.1% interest.

How many of the shooters have criminal records? For what? Were any of the guns not used by police legally registered to the users? Bet we do not get that information.
There is no gun registry in FL. Registries do not solve crimes, they are just a gateway drug for government leading to confiscation.

Ima tell you right now, nobody wants to be a security guard. We’re just doing it to keep the bills paid.
Security isn’t taken lightly at bars and clubs so if you can’t handle it, don’t go out. Same if you have a job that has stationed guards at post. Please appreciate your fellow guardians for taking time out their day to make sure you are safe. This includes taking a nap. We do doubles, triples & split shifts. We get tired, and we overwatch a lot.
We aren’t asking for a whole lot, just some appreciation.

According to the Chief of Police, his Officers should be applauded for quickly stepping in to deescalate the situation. Situation, customer shot and killed a Security Officer. 2 Police stepped in to deescalate resulting in 6 innocent bystanders and 1 Police Officer being Shot. Thank Goodness there were not 3 or more Officers present to assist in that De-escalation!
So, the cops should just stand down and let the shooter continue on with their mayhem? You should leave now.

Went to the 2017 eclipse. Lots of RV on the traffic back once the show is over. Few of them broke down on the street .... that's why the traffic was so bad. And tow truck couldn't get there quickly either ............

Also, I'm very grateful for the segment about the great things people are doing for other people. That's welcome, much-needed good news that we don't see often enough. It would be a tremendous addition to the news broadcast if that was a constant, daily part of what we consume as news. The biggest question news consumers ask from our journalists is "Are things getting better anywhere? And how?" We crave hope as much as facts. It's the same relationship as food and water.
Them buildings is "Earthquake" proof in theory.......but......haven't had a quake til now to test that theory...... look at the one in Taiwan. They are used to them, and their buildings are tilted sideways.
