I will be teaching you the Pouch version of this bag. You have the option to add the additional Crossbody Strap in the written directions of the pattern.
Throughout the pattern I use and suggest several items that I find to be key things in my everyday sewing. I've included links here to many of those items
I love my Omnigrid 2.5" square ruler. It's small and quite handy! www.joann.com/...
I use double sided tape to secure seams and to hold my zips in place while inserting them. Tape helps keep zips from getting wavy and wonky. I used both Sookwang Tape (Scor Tape) and Tanners Bond Adhesive.

I used my 7” guide for the #3 zip.

Fast becoming my favorite Temporary Spray Adhesive is Aleene's Repositionable Tacky Spray. The nozzle doesn't get gummed up and it doesn't splatter when it sprays! I love this stuff! Pick it up at Joann or on Amazon.

My very favorite Zipper Tape, which is almost exclusively what I use, can be found at My Handmade Space. I love that they have matching #3 and #5 Zipper Tapes!

There was a question about my little thread cutter on the side of my machine. It is called a Stringblade and I picked it up at Quilt Story. quiltstory.big...
I sew all my bag on the Straight Stitch Flat Bed Juki DDL 8700 Industrial Sewing Machine. Contact Steve at Sewing Gold in Chicago IL and he can explain this machine and cost it out for you!

If there is something else I mentioned and you can't find give me a shout out! I'm happy to throw up and additional shopping link!
I've learned lots from watching you. Your work is brilliant and you explain things perfectly which makes things so easy.
Many thanks, Roz!! I'm so glad you enjoy my tutorials!
double sided tape is your best friend in sewing! same goes for fabric fusion glue and heat n bond!! I LOVE THEM!!!
Those are great as well, essential things in every studio as far as I'm concerned!! I also use Elmers Glue Sticks when I make my straps. It keeps them from getting all twisty after you sew!
I have made bags for years and most of them I wasn't happy with. I learned SO much from this tutorial! I look forward to seeing more of your work. Thank you for such valuable information!
HI Amy, I appreciate the thoughtfulness, humor and care you took in making this tutorial. It was a pleasure to follow along with you.
I’m glad you enjoyed it.
I have been making bags , for 4 years, I learned so much from this video. Thank you !
Anytime I make a Sunshine Crossbody I always come back to your tutorial. It's simply the best and I enjoy "sewing" with you. Thanks so much for making a great video.
Thank you so much! I'm hoping we can do a sewing retreat in the future and get to really sew together!!
@@AmyLynneDesigns That would be amazing!!
You are a PRO and I was really wondering why you don't post videos anymore, I am so so so happy you are back and I love this tutorial, the great thing about your tutorials is that you explain everything in a professional way.. thank you so much.
You are very welcome! Thank you! There will be more videos added every month!
I’m only 6 minutes in and I love her way of explaining things.
Thank you so much!!
I was re-watching your video and appreciate how you explain "why" you do things the way you do. Thanks.
I appreciate that Susan. I think if we know why we do it we won't do it the wrong way.
Hi Amy! This creation is so beautiful. I've seen it several times on the internet and didn't know where to find you. Today has been my lucky day. I appreciate the exactness with which you sew and the way you think several steps ahead to make the sewing more manageable. I really like the way you give logical rationale for the things you do........AND.........I love the fabric you chose. Best to you from Canada.
Omg. When you demonstrated the humper jumper had no idea what u meant. Then I rem seeing one that came with machine but had no idea what it was. What a diff it makes. Thank you much for this hidden gem.
You are most welcome!
Thank you so much for this amazing tutorial. I learned a lot and love love ❤️ your explanations. Please continue to do tutorials.
You are so welcome!
Thank you for showing the many uses for double sided tape! My topstitching has always been puckery, but because of this video, I believe I can get away from that just by taping the sides as you demonstrated.
I Love your videos....very informative, and you take care in all of your steps....if possible, you should do more videos, you would do well with them....love from Australia.
Thank you so much! I’m glad you enjoyed the videos! I have two more that come with two of my patterns that you can purchase on my website! I really like the way you did the zipper. I've worked with zipper designs that ask to veer the zipper and I could not understand what the pattern designer meant. You made it so clear. Thank you!
I’m so glad I was able to explain that for you!!
Amy, I just love your attention to detail, and I appreciate your humor as well. I really do enjoy your tutorials, love making my zippers using The Butler Method. Thank you
Thank You Maureen for your kind words!! I’m glad you enjoy my videos and dig The Butler Method!
Nicely done and to the point. Very descriptive, no music, clear, and just GREAT!!
Thank You so much!! If you could only have seen the couple times I realized I wasn’t wearing my mic hahahahaha 🤦🏼♀️. Had to do those sections over lol!
Hi I am a new ...and I must say for my first visit I have understood a lot ...thank you ...
love the way you did the end of the zipper as you bend it out.
Love all the helpful details you added to make the bag. Thank you for doing this for us. Hopefully, you will make more tutorials. The butler method for the zipper was genius.
Thank you, I will! I’m so glad you like The Butler Method!
Enjoyed the video! New at this so I probably missed the part where you state if you do or do not use woven interfacing on cork. Newbies…..gotta love us. 🤣
Love all of your tips, tricks and explanations. No speeding, just beautiful sewing! Thanks for your time!
Thank You for watching!
I have been sewing for 50 years and doing Upholstery for 25 of those years and learned a few things...lol...thank you for the tutorial.
Beautiful bag. The quality of work is amazing. I love the care you take with your zippers.
Great tutorial, very concise
Love all your zipper tips. Will try them when making this bag. Thanks!!!
Thanks Amy, hope to make this bag for one of my friends. Makes it so much easier after watching your videos.
You're welcome! Enjoy the sew!
Thank you so much for talking through all the techniques you use! I've learned so much from this video :)
You are so welcome! I’m so glad you enjoyed it and got a few ideas from it!
Great video. On your hump jumper if the foot is in the center of the slot you have a longer run of stitching. I’ve used one for almost 45 years of many different styles and types and this one is my favorite.
I love your attitude!!! “We can do anything!!!!LOL
Gotta always stay positive even when I want to chuck it against a wall hahahhaha!
Another great video Amy. Thanks for sharing your expertise. Your work is always so professional.
Thank you Elona!
That was really enjoyable. I enjoyed your chatting while explaining and demonstrating because you reminded me of my sister who makes marvellous bags. I am going to share this with her. Thanks for your tutorial today.
Absolute perfection. Keep the videos coming. Thank you such much for sharing. Fantastic instruction😊

You are an excellent teacher , Thank You
Thank you! 😃
Thank you for this. I picked up a few tips. I like your approach and your simple easy conversation through your bag making!! Great combo choice too!
You are so welcome! Thank you!
Wow Amy, I just loved this video, I have the pattern and have bought some others from Bagstock Designs so you have made my life easier! I am discovering that the older I get, the more of a visual learner I have become! I love your precision, it makes my heart happy! I often turn my work round to “backstitich” , much more precise. When I had my granny’s treadle machine, that was the only way you could do it - how I wish I had held on to it😟. Thank you again, Pauline from Scotland 😊
Pauline I’m so glad you enjoyed the tutorial and I was able to make your heart happy. Reading that made my day ❤️
As usual, I’ve learned a lot from your tutorial, Amy. Thank you for being so precise in your instructions. I appreciate how you explain yourself. It’s always fun watching you make something💕
Thank You Mona!
I learned sooo much from watching you in this video!! Thank you for sharing all your tips and techniques with us. Now I'm anxious to give it a try.
Thank you for this ! I learned a ton ! beginner at sewing , so happy I stumbled upon this video !
You are so welcome!
I really enjoy the way you teach!. Thank you
You’re Welcome! Thank You Danielle!!
This tutorial is SO good! I am still new at bag making. And when you pulled out that pocket template...I about lost my mind! I h0ave installed several pockets and the stitching has looked so crappy...its helped that I always use colorful or busy printed fabric, but still...that template is awesome and I can't wait to use that for my upcoming project that actually has a welted pocket.
I'm so glad you liked the tutorial!!
I appreciate the precision sewing! Very nice! I subscribed and look forward to more videos from you.
Thank you for this wonderful tutorial. Very helpful.
I wanted to see a tutorial on the sunshine crossover and clicked you. Oh goodness! You are so personable I had to subscribe. 😊
Perfect tutorial and pattern! Love from vienna-austria!
I'm so glad you enjoyed it!
Really love your guidance, tipps and tricks for bagmaking. Thanks so much!
You’re Welcome! Thank You!
Amy, this is your best video yet. Thank you so much!!
Thank You Elizabeth! When I started including videos in my patterns I knew I had to up my game and I discovered this is the best way for me to get the best results. I’m so glad you enjoyed it!
Love your tutorial. I'll be making this tomorrow.
Very nice tutorial! Love how you talked through the process. I picked up a few good tips. I'm currently sourcing materials for the Divina tote.
I love your videos! Thank you so much for all the info and tips you give.
Thank You I’m so glad you enjoy them! Happy to help another sewist!
Excellent tutorial, very thorough. I’m a beginner at this but feel I could do this now. Thank you so much! Off to buy tape, 😁.
Thank you! I love tape so much lol!
Super great tutorial. I’ve sewn all my life but I’m new to bag making. I have been struggling with those top style zippers placements. Now I think I can try again with much better success. Many thanks!!!
You’re Welcome! Keep doing them and you will master it!
Great tutorial. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for this wonderful tutorial! I love the idea of taping rather than using clips but my machines do not do well. I want to make this pouch for all 5 of my sisters for Christmas.
Try out the Scor tape. Get the 1/8” wide and your machine should breeze right through it. You can pick it up on Amazon
Thank you so much! Best tutorial I have watched!
Awww Thanks!
I really enjoyed this video. You have a great style and lot of wonderful hints. I have one all cut out (only about 4 "yikes" moments, hahaha) and I'm ready to get started. Thanks!
Thank you so much! Just remember it's all about enjoying the sew. Yikes happen lol!
So precise...best tutorial I've ever seen...thank you.
Thank you so much!
You did a very good job. Loved it
Thank you so much!
Great tutorial. Thanks
Brilliant Amy 💕
Thank You Peg!
First time watching. Great instruction. Thank you.
Thank you Amy! I'm going to make this bag this week!
Question....do you apply the fusible fleece to the exterior and then SF101 on top of thatf?
I do it in this order, SF101 on the center exterior fabric pieces. Then when both front and back exterior pieces are complete I fuse Thermolam TP971F, cut using the smaller foam interfacing piece, then on top of that I use Pellon 808 Craft Fuse cut to the full size. If you follow the manufacturers instructions for fusing I promise it will fuse!
Thank you SEW much, Amy!! This was an excellent tutorial !!
You’re Welcome! I’m glad you liked it Sandy!
Amy querida! Muy lindo tus trabajos! Muchisima gracias por obsequiar el patrón! Saludos desde Buenos Aires
Eres muy bienvenida!
You mentioned the guide sheet for setting the interior pocket/zipper but I didn’t see the link. I enjoyed the your instructions. Very well done.
I used my 7” guide for the #3 zip. amylynnedesigns.com/listing/656362404/template-for-7-zippers-3-zips-and-5-zips
Love this tutorial it's very helpful.
Thank You 😊
Great tutorial!❤️
Very good tutorial.
Thank you! Cheers!
Thanks wonderful tutorials
Love your videos.
Glad you like them!
fantastic video thank you
You're welcome! Thanks for watching!
Very nice
Thank you, Amy Lynne. Your instruction is excellent. Would have liked handles though.
I find that when I am installing the side seams in the area of the top zipper that if I make the bag at least 1/2 inch to an inch wider than the pattern calls for, when it comes time to sewing around the bag having that extra space around the top zipper and zipper tab makes the zipper and tab come out better when I turn it out. Otherwise I end up with weird-wonkyness even when following the rules of not topstitching all the way out to the edge and using a zipper foot.
If that method works for you keep doing it!! Exploring new techniques as we sew makes this entire hobby and business so much more fun! I'm glad you found something that works well for you!!
Hey Amy, your the best! Love that #butlermethod
Thank You Ann!
Wonderful
love it..
Thank You!!
Oh my goodness, the nuggets in this tutorial are quite impressive. I am going to need to devote a week to taking notes and buying tape and interfacing. If this bag was made into a cross body and created with the professional steps Amy Lynne took, does anyone have a fair suggestion for what one could/should charge for the Sunshine Crossbody? The supplies alone add up. The time (at least for me) is also quite extensive. Thanks Amy Lynne!
Glad it was helpful! If you turned this into a crossbody, depending on materials, you can charge between $50 and $70USD.
@@AmyLynneDesigns Thanks! I think we should be able to get more but I 'm sure you are right about what people are willing to pay. Think of the LV handbags that bring thousands. But I consider it therapy. I enjoy making them. Speaking of LV bags, I just learned that they use a glazed canvas rather than leather. I wonder if that is a product we can buy retail. It’s very sturdy and waterproof. I have been looking this morning but have not yet found anything. I made seven crossbody bags using all your techniques and they turned out GREAT!
@@AmyLynneDesigns Just wanted to say that I finished my first Sunshine Crossbody. Your tutorial made all the difference. I am really please with the outcome. The trimming suggestion was much needed. I'm going to make two more and will have this video on the stand by for each step. I rotate making 3 different patterns and as I am new to bag making, it helps so much to have you with me so to speak. Hope you are doing well and thanks so much for this tutorial.
I'm strongly suspecting that you are an engineer because you are so precise. Subscribed. :)
Thank you! I am not, but I love numbers and math!
Loved the video, you always explain things so well. You said you didn’t use foam to firm up the bag, could you repeat what you used please. Thanks for all you do...
Sure! I use sf101 on the center exterior fabric pieces. Then I fuse Thermolam cut using the pattern piece that says “if you feel your machine cannot handle all the layers” the one you’re supposed to use on the foam. Then I cut a piece of 808. It’s a thick heavyweight interfacing. I cut that using the lining pattern piece. You fuse the Thermolam first then the 808 on top of that. Fuse both using the Pellon directions for fusing. You can also check out my group on Facebook on how I fuse Thermolam.
Amy Lynne Designs thanks again!
@@AmyLynneDesigns do you still use the sf101 on the pieces for the interior pockets too? Im a big confused. i want to use the same you are using because i have fleece and t 809.
Hey, how are you. I really enjoyed this video. Not really sure how I came across it but glad I did. As we're on lockdown here in the UK, I have a lot more free time. Your explanations are very good and you take your time which is great for me. I can sew but have never made a bag. Hey, I am definitely going to give this a go and have ordered some of the 1/8 inch tape but couldn't find the repositionable tape. I really like the choice of fabrics you used. Thanks again
Thank you so much!! I’m so glad you enjoyed the tutorial! I have a free makeup bag tutorial in my group on Facebook too if you’re interested! facebook.com/groups/patternsbyamylynne/
I agree it is always a struggle to birth the bag through the pocket.
I birth the bag through the lining at the bottom BUT THEN pull that seam through the zipper pocket to sew it. (I have a 2 piece and leave the bottom open)
I finally sew the bottom of the zipper pocket closed.
Your bags must be the neatest, most precise bags ever. Thanks.
Great idea stitching it up through the pocket!!
I’ve made many of these
Thank you
You're welcome!
I am working on my first Sunshine bag, some how when I printed the templates the 2” square was about 1/8 off all around. (I’ve never had a problem with printing a pattern before, not sure if that has happened to others). So when I came to following the pattern I had 10” on top, but instructions said to cut zipper 10.25. So clearly something was wrong! I went to CZcams and found your video, which was great, and completed my bag using your zipper technique. Thank you very much !
I’m so glad you found a solution! If it printed off it may very well have been a download issue.I’d dump the file and download again.
@@AmyLynneDesignsI absolute love all of your videos and patterns. I just had the same thing happen to me when printing - the first time ever having this happen. I saved the pattern to Books on my Ipad and printed from there. It was really disappointing. I was really looking forward to making this bag. It was impossible to increase the size without losing parts of the pieces. I will try to download and print from my desktop…fingers crossed.
