  • Join me as I teach you how I sew up the new pattern by Bagstock Designs, The Sunshine Cossbody Pouch. www.bagstockde...
I will be teaching you the Pouch version of this bag. You have the option to add the additional Crossbody Strap in the written directions of the pattern.
Throughout the pattern I use and suggest several items that I find to be key things in my everyday sewing. I've included links here to many of those items
I love my Omnigrid 2.5" square ruler. It's small and quite handy! www.joann.com/...
I use double sided tape to secure seams and to hold my zips in place while inserting them. Tape helps keep zips from getting wavy and wonky. I used both Sookwang Tape (Scor Tape) and Tanners Bond Adhesive.

I used my 7” guide for the #3 zip.

Fast becoming my favorite Temporary Spray Adhesive is Aleene's Repositionable Tacky Spray. The nozzle doesn't get gummed up and it doesn't splatter when it sprays! I love this stuff! Pick it up at Joann or on Amazon.

    www.amazon.com...
My very favorite Zipper Tape, which is almost exclusively what I use, can be found at My Handmade Space. I love that they have matching #3 and #5 Zipper Tapes!
    www.myhandmade...
There was a question about my little thread cutter on the side of my machine. It is called a Stringblade and I picked it up at Quilt Story. quiltstory.big...
I sew all my bag on the Straight Stitch Flat Bed Juki DDL 8700 Industrial Sewing Machine. Contact Steve at Sewing Gold in Chicago IL and he can explain this machine and cost it out for you!

I appreciate the exactness with which you sew and the way you think several steps ahead to make the sewing more manageable. • @AmyLynneDesigns
      @AmyLynneDesigns  Před 4 lety

I do it in this order, SF101 on the center exterior fabric pieces. Then when both front and back exterior pieces are complete I fuse Thermolam TP971F, cut using the smaller foam interfacing piece, then on top of that I use Pellon 808 Craft Fuse cut to the full size. If you follow the manufacturers instructions for fusing I promise it will fuse!

I find that when I am installing the side seams in the area of the top zipper that if I make the bag at least 1/2 inch to an inch wider than the pattern calls for, when it comes time to sewing around the bag having that extra space around the top zipper and zipper tab makes the zipper and tab come out better when I turn it out. Otherwise I end up with weird-wonkyness even when following the rules of not topstitching all the way out to the edge and using a zipper foot.

Oh my goodness, the nuggets in this tutorial are quite impressive. I am going to need to devote a week to taking notes and buying tape and interfacing. If this bag was made into a cross body and created with the professional steps Amy Lynne took, does anyone have a fair suggestion for what one could/should charge for the Sunshine Crossbody? The supplies alone add up. The time (at least for me) is also quite extensive. Thanks Amy Lynne!

Glad it was helpful! If you turned this into a crossbody, depending on materials, you can charge between $50 and $70USD.

@@AmyLynneDesigns Thanks! I think we should be able to get more but I 'm sure you are right about what people are willing to pay. Think of the LV handbags that bring thousands. But I consider it therapy. I enjoy making them. Speaking of LV bags, I just learned that they use a glazed canvas rather than leather. I wonder if that is a product we can buy retail. It’s very sturdy and waterproof. I have been looking this morning but have not yet found anything. I made seven crossbody bags using all your techniques and they turned out GREAT!

@@AmyLynneDesigns Just wanted to say that I finished my first Sunshine Crossbody. Your tutorial made all the difference. I am really please with the outcome. The trimming suggestion was much needed. I'm going to make two more and will have this video on the stand by for each step. I rotate making 3 different patterns and as I am new to bag making, it helps so much to have you with me so to speak. Hope you are doing well and thanks so much for this tutorial.

I'm strongly suspecting that you are an engineer because you are so precise. Subscribed. :)

Loved the video, you always explain things so well. You said you didn’t use foam to firm up the bag, could you repeat what you used please. Thanks for all you do...

Sure! I use sf101 on the center exterior fabric pieces. Then I fuse Thermolam cut using the pattern piece that says “if you feel your machine cannot handle all the layers” the one you’re supposed to use on the foam. Then I cut a piece of 808. It’s a thick heavyweight interfacing. I cut that using the lining pattern piece. You fuse the Thermolam first then the 808 on top of that. Fuse both using the Pellon directions for fusing. You can also check out my group on Facebook on how I fuse Thermolam.

Hey, how are you. I really enjoyed this video. Not really sure how I came across it but glad I did. As we're on lockdown here in the UK, I have a lot more free time. Your explanations are very good and you take your time which is great for me. I can sew but have never made a bag. Hey, I am definitely going to give this a go and have ordered some of the 1/8 inch tape but couldn't find the repositionable tape. I really like the choice of fabrics you used. Thanks again

I agree it is always a struggle to birth the bag through the pocket.
I birth the bag through the lining at the bottom BUT THEN pull that seam through the zipper pocket to sew it. (I have a 2 piece and leave the bottom open)
I finally sew the bottom of the zipper pocket closed.
Your bags must be the neatest, most precise bags ever. Thanks.

I am working on my first Sunshine bag, some how when I printed the templates the 2” square was about 1/8 off all around. (I’ve never had a problem with printing a pattern before, not sure if that has happened to others). So when I came to following the pattern I had 10” on top, but instructions said to cut zipper 10.25. So clearly something was wrong! I went to CZcams and found your video, which was great, and completed my bag using your zipper technique. Thank you very much !

I’m so glad you found a solution! If it printed off it may very well have been a download issue.I’d dump the file and download again.

@@AmyLynneDesignsI absolute love all of your videos and patterns. I just had the same thing happen to me when printing - the first time ever having this happen. I saved the pattern to Books on my Ipad and printed from there. It was really disappointing. I was really looking forward to making this bag. It was impossible to increase the size without losing parts of the pieces. I will try to download and print from my desktop…fingers crossed.
