Superman is a superhero who appears in American comic books published by DC Comics. The character was created by writer Jerry Siegel and artist Joe Shuster, and debuted in the comic book Action Comics #1 (cover-dated June 1938 and published April 18, 1938).[1] Superman has been adapted to a number of other media, which includes radio serials, novels, films, television shows, theater, and video games.
Superman is the archetype of the superhero: he wears an outlandish costume, uses a codename, and fights evil with the aid of extraordinary abilities. Although there are earlier characters who arguably fit this definition, it was Superman who popularized the superhero genre and established its conventions. He was the best-selling superhero in American comic books up until the 1980s.[2]
DC Comics's Superman franchise, based on the character of the same name created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster in June 1938, has seen the release of various films since its inception.[1] The character debuted in cinemas in a series of animated shorts beginning in 1941, and then was the protagonist of two movie serials in 1948 and 1950. An independent studio, Lippert Pictures, released the first Superman feature film, Superman and the Mole Men, starring George Reeves, in 1951. In 1973, the film rights to the Superman character were purchased by Ilya Salkind, Alexander Salkind, and Pierre Spengler. After numerous scripts and several years in development, Richard Donner was hired as their director, and he shot two films, Superman (1978) (marketed as Superman: The Movie), and Superman II (1980), at the same time, both starring Christopher Reeve. Donner had already shot eighty percent of Superman II before it was decided to finish shooting the first film. The Salkinds fired Donner after Superman's release and commissioned Richard Lester as the director to finish Superman II. Lester returned to direct Superman III (1983). The Salkinds also produced the related spin-off Supergirl (1984). They then sold the rights to Cannon Films, which produced the poorly reviewed Superman IV: The Quest for Peace (1987). Ilya Salkind commissioned a fifth Superman script before Warner Bros. acquired the rights entirely in 1993.
Over the course of 11 years, Warner Bros. developed and then cancelled three projects: Tim Burton's Superman Lives, which would have starred Nicolas Cage; Wolfgang Petersen's Batman vs. Superman; and the J. J. Abrams-scripted Superman: Flyby which went between directors Joseph "McG" Nichols and Brett Ratner). In 2004, the studio hired Bryan Singer to take over the films, and released Superman Returns in 2006, starring newcomer Brandon Routh. Donner's director's cut for Superman II was also released that year. Despite positive reviews, Warner Bros. was disappointed with the financial performance of Superman Returns, and canceled Singer's proposed sequel, which would have been released in 2009. The studio nearly started production of a Justice League film with George Miller directing and D. J. Cotrona as Superman for a 2009 release, but it was shelved at the last minute in 2008.
The film series was rebooted in 2013 with Man of Steel, directed by Zack Snyder with Henry Cavill starring as Superman. Man of Steel launched what became known as the DC Extended Universe, a cinematic franchise intended to rival the highly successful Marvel Cinematic Universe. Cavill next appeared as Superman in the DCEU films Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) and Justice League (2017) (both again directed by Snyder), and in the director's cut of Justice League, Zack Snyder's Justice League (2021); he then made a cameo appearance in the mid-credits scene of Black Adam (2022). The Flash (2023) featured Superman cameos portrayed by Henry Cavill, Nicolas Cage, George Reeves, and Christopher Reeve. Sasha Calle, along with Helen Slater, appeared as Supergirl in the film.
A new film starring the character, titled simply Superman, is scheduled for release in July 2025. Written and directed by James Gunn, and co-produced by Gunn and Peter Safran, it is intended to be the first live-action film of the DC Universe (DCU) media franchise and shared universe. David Corenswet has been cast as Superman for the film.

Yeah I think it is dumb but i know as a comic fan why he is doing this, its a reference to all star superman, very comic cover kinda image. But at the same time you cant really see the suit well, its battle damaged on the top half so the colors arent even right. While i hate how loose fitting the top is i know its supposed to be a early superman with a homemade suit like how the batman did. I see where he is coming from and I also see why the normal person wouldnt understand it.

There’s no way this thick suit is fitting under Clark’s normal clothes. Same problem as Cavill’s suit. I guess that’s why he has to change in his apartment.

Also wanted to add that I believe the New 52 suit was very techy and went over his body, and he had those knee pads on the suit.
But they're obviously not going with the nanotech suit idea, I think this is basically fabric from Krypton. Hence, all the pipelines and for how the symbol looks.

Seeing the suit really makes theorize what James Gunn meant by a "Reverse Kingdom Come" story line. This is the suit Superman starts with and what he wears while making a name for himself. The suit is more inherently kryptonian, and alien. But as he begins to be called "Superman" and begins to accept his human nature he changes the emblem to a more classic S (maybe it's Lois Lane's idea?) and his suit will loose a lot of that alien look and look more boy scout. Even if he get's it in the last 20 seconds I do believe this suit is going to evolve over the franchise

The sad part is, even though I didn’t like most of the snyderverse, the suits were absolutely perfect. Superman, BVS batman, wonder woman, aquaman, deadshot, black manta, harley, and probably more, all just absolutely perfect designs

I feel like it's for the best that the first supervillain that he's facing as Superman is Lex Luthor. With Superman's supervillains (and I think supervillains in general) there's a clear food chain. And Lex does feel like the clear beginning of that chain with Superman.
Yeah TBH I don’t have any issues with Lex Luthor being the main villain again. As long as James Gunn is able to deliver a new spin on the Luthor and Superman dynamic, it’ll be good. At least it isn’t Zod again.

Honestly swapping the lines of the suit with like blue denim seams with a hint of yellow/orange sewing would’ve looked probably so much better in my opinion

@@Chainsawman447 Any time Nathan Fillion is cast in a James Gunn film he's there for a gag part or to get killed in 3 seconds, sometimes both. The only real exception to this is Slither but that's only because he's one of the main characters.
The boots kinda remind me of Tyler Hoechlin’s boots on his first suit in the Arrowverse, except these boots look better

I expected the suit to be more vibrant and I actually kinda like the photo they used being a superhero is kinda a depressing and thankless job but they still go out there to save people and in my opinion this photo represents that Superman is thinking about all the people he couldnt save

The pipelines have been a thing before the MCU adopted it. This is similar to how the suit was done in the New 52.

I can't speak for the suit yet, but i like this first image because it gives me an idea of what the films tone will be. You've got a massive threat outside happening and you've got superman casually putting on his costume like he deals with this everyday, and he's just humming along putting on his boots lol

So I just checked the comics and this is heavily inspired from new 52. Although it doesn't have the high collar neck.
But the colour and lines and boots are spot on.
Red trunks obviously grt plus. All star suit is very bright blue.
Its supposed to be a early superman suit and the top is battle damaged so its burnt black and the image of him putting on his boots while a crisis is going on is a reference to all star superman. While i dont like how bunched up it is on top i think the point is, is that this is a early superman with an early suit possibly home made, the leaks about the story and the references james is citing say that he is trying to prove himself and his idealistic notions, to the other heros so him having a loser homemade suit kinda goes well with the farmboy superhero in the big city story angle.
I think the colors could be better, get rid of the lines and it should be more form fitted to his body. And the collar can be better too. I like it tho

I think this suit might have the more armored, tech-like look because it's what Kryptonians wore as 'action' clothing. They were a scientific race who are similar to humans in that they don't have superpowers. So the suits they wore for fighting, exploring etc. would probably have padding for protection. Maybe Superman's suit is initially made from the same material, but it could change over time. I think the 'S' also looks more alien because it's the crest of the House of El. Maybe over time, it will evolve into an actual 'S'. The evolution of Superman's suit would show that Clark will honor both his Kryptonian and human legacy by combining the initial alien costume and crest with human influences, which results in a more traditional Superman costume.
It does look baggy in certain places especially the neck area which makes look like a CW suit but overall it’s not that bad

Conflicting is the perfect way to describe the suit. Honestly the suit looks conflicted itself. It wants to be the New 52 suit, Classic suit and copy most MCU suits all at once. The material and lines look like what you'd see in the MCU, doesn't have a home made feel to it. Neck Collar doesn't look right.
It's just a mess that's passable.

3:27- I won't say Superman and Lois gets less credit than it deserves, because it's a fantastic show. But I feel it gets lost in the shuffle of adaptations. And I say that as someone who initially wasn't on board with the idea of a Superman CW show, based on Hoechlin's performance on Supergirl. The Crisis crossover sort of brought me around, but since S&L began, I feel that Hoechlin is the best of both worlds. He has that hope and idealism that the general audience wants in Superman, but also has some gravitas and seriousness to him, and the family element definitely helps. Hoechlin definitely has brought his own take to Superman that, I feel, stands shoulder to shoulder with other performances on TV and film.
When they said "It looks Tech-i" I always come back to a meme wich said "time to update superman's suit" And then post the most military looking man I've ever seen. My man sups doesn't need a helmet, high tech suit, a bulletproof vest nor 8 pockets.
But I just see a teaser image for us to make theories more than a superman suit reveal.

Why don't they use the Rebirth suit in live action? It's literally the perfect suit for live action. It's basically the classic suit without the trunks.

in my personal opion i think the perfect live action superman costume would be if they Used.
.1 Brandon Routh's suit from "Superman Returns" as the base.
.2 Brighten the colors to be more vibrant and hopeful, similar to the palette used in Christopher Reeve's Superman suit.
.3 Retain the same design as the "Superman Returns" S-shield.
Size: Increase the size of the symbol to match the larger emblem seen on Brandon Routh's Kingdom Come suit from the CW's Arrowverse crossover event.
Colors: Adapt the color scheme from Max Fleischer's Superman costume, featuring a red S on a black background with yellow trimming around the edges.
.4 Use the same belt design from "Superman Returns."
Colors: Change the color scheme to match Max Fleischer’s Superman: a red belt to align with the trunks and a yellow buckle.

one of the major complaints i’ve seen is the color of the suit but i’ve noticed that the legs are a lighter shade of blue so i’m guessing that’s the suits actual color it’s prolly looking darker because of the lighting and battle damage otherwise i personally like it can’t wait to see it properly
In my humble opinion, I absolutely love it.
It's basically the classic suit (with red undies included), but with elements of the New 52 suit (collar and pipelines) and the Kingdom Come symbol.

Honestly the lines are just too visible. If they were more subtle, like say, the ones in the final swing suit for Spider-Man, I doubt it would be as irking
The background is a reference to a villain that shits out the sun and this could be a battle worn Superman who is shrinking, tired and injured because he needs the sun

I love this suit. Only thing I'm not a fan of is the trunks. Love the lines. Love the image. The contrast of colors with the space laser thing outside is beautiful.

But you gotta remember that the lines are pretty transparent to the suit. It’s not like the lines are red or dark blue, they’re just transparent. it’s pretty much just the classic suit

Personally, this might be in my top 3 favorite live action Superman suits, right next to Superman and Lois S3 and CW Kingdom Come.
- The Kingdom Come logo is my personally favorite Superman logo (even if I think it will be replaced by the end)
- The New 52 suit is my favorite comic suit, so I'm happy about the collar. My only wish is if it had the red line along the collar.
- I go back and forth on the trunks. If he has a red New 52/Rebirth belt, he doesn't need it. If it's a good belt, which I believe it is, then the trunk breaks up all the blue.
- I've never had a problem with the MCU line. People are overreacting on that aspect.
Overall, it's a really great suit. I can't wait to see it in action.
The suit overall feels confused. I could be misremembering, but I'm pretty sure the New 52 suit was actually armor, and the lines were engraved into the suit. Here it's a fabric suit with the lines presumably screen printed on, and while neither is ideal, the fabric makes the lines stand out even more than they did originally. A simple texture like the Superman & Lois would've worked just fine. The Kingdom Come logo in yellow is not bad, it's a good idea actually, but it kinda just adds to the confusion. And the next thing I'm about to say might piss off a lot of people, but a New 52 style suit with never work with the yellow belt and red trunks. Also I'm guessing there's not muscle suit in this photo, as the suit costume looks very loose on David. A muscle suit, when done right, will properly fill out the suit and give it much needed definition, so hopefully one is added.
However, for some positives, I like the colors. Going off of just this photo, the blue and red are deep but not overly dark. The boots oddly look really cool. And as I said previously, I like the logo.
Overall, I think the suit is mid.
Also I disagree with the idea of the standard Superman logo is "too militaristic." Maybe you meant too uniform, but even then I don't necessarily agree with that.

I like the logo and the colours a lot. There are a bit too much lines for my taste but I’m kind of used to it. This may be a stretch but the pink could mean Parasite. I did say it was a stretch. I hope we get to see him standing up. I don’t think this will be the only suit he wears in the movie. This is probably his Kryptonian suit and he’ll get one from Ma Kent later on.

The suit looks 3 sizes too big. The suit is usually form fitting which makes him look imposing. It's busy in areas it doesn't need to be in. It looks more like the Superman from the animated series Legion of Superheroes.
Love the suit not the best photo for it but I like it and hope we see the suit become less and less bulky over the course of the serries

I just wish the top was tighter but i dont know what they are going for yet so i am not going to judge, people did the same with the "The batman" suit and when they saw the movie they understood. I think this suit has a story reason for looking the way it does so i am noting gonna judge yet I love the bottom half of it alot the boots look great but the top half is all bunched up and doesnt look like it fits which i am guessing because it is home made and superman is going to be not taken seriously by the other heros at first, visually that aids that notion. Plus the suit is bluer but it looks like it has dirt on it, so dont overreact and we have to get those videos where people go like months from now "yeah i was one of the people who said Robert Pattenson was a bad choice for batman" type videos because we didnt give it a chance and we saw a out of context image, granted very dumb way to reveal it but he is going for the all star superman vibe so i get it at the same time.

I really don't understand the issue with adding lines to super suits.
I don’t think lex will be the “main” villain of the movie, or at least I think there will be a second villain alongside him that superman will fight. Many are hoping for brainiac. That would be great but I wouldn’t bet on it. I think he’s more likely to be the villain of the upcoming supergirl film. Maybe bizarro or Ultraman?
I really want to see Metallo as a villian in a superman movie. Metallo doesn't get much love.
