I flipped out when I saw the thumbnail. I thought I saw Jeremy Clarkson... But all in hearing is James May. 😌
Roland Ocomen Me too, than I read "Buying Guide ..." and saw it was Harry. :)
I love how you point out all the little details!
I had a 964rs for 4 years sold in 04 for 20k ! Crazy money now. Badly flawed by the standard spring/dampers. Great on track though and surprisingly good on longer distances. Saw 275 kph on mine. Amazing brakes.
That last shot, when you drive off in the 2.4, reminds me of the start of Le Mans with Steve McQueen.
That 72' 911s is just fantastic. Thank you for the up close look.
where have you been Harry. We need to see more of your great and informative videos
GREED
Agreed
Instant like for Harry!! The early 911's dial-a-gear really cracks me up!
The 964 RS CS is simply stunning.....love it (except for the chrome intake pipe)
As a huge Porsche enthusiast, the 964 RS is pretty much as good as it gets. What a stunning car.
And that ladies and gentlemen is how you increase the price of a car at auction for a friend!
+Calvin K or sponsor!
This video will do nothing to the price of those cars.
They are popular no matter what video is released. Even a mid 90s bog standard 964 will cost about £40,000 to £60,000.
This is just the way things are.
I can but hope to have a need to use this buying guide one day. Great video, Harry. Maximum 911 geek points!
That 911S is a really lovely thing.
Both are stunning
gareth thwaite Agreee
This kind of video is proper tutorial for serious guys buying pricey vintage cars. Also, camera work on this particular videos is absolutely amazing. Well done (again) Harry!
Ma Art It's more like a peek for people who cannot afford one - 'serious guys buying pricey cars' don't wait for a 5 minute CZcams video to come up one day to teach them something - as if they don't already know what they are after...
Baerchenization That is interesting sight! I agree with you at some point, but on other hand I see this video useful because in past few years I was reading various threads on forums where guys wasn't aware what they should inspect before buying vintage car on auction.
Ma Art Really? :) you'd think that everybody serious about vintage Porsches would have studied some of the stand-out, encyclopedic 911 history books; there'd you find every last little detail, such as the thing regarding the 1972 oil filler... obviously Harry does not know these details only because he bought an old 911 either, or watched a CZcams video... If you want to learn about these things, check a Porsche forum and see what they recommend as an authoritative book on 911. When it comes to buying one, you'd wanna take someone with you who has hands-on experience. Then again, it you find a pristine car at an auction with full history, there is probably not much that can go wrong, if you are independantly rich ;)
I'd be totally happy with a regular 964 targa, btw :)
Beautiful video!!
Fairly certain I've been in the 64RS , around Spa with a previous owner. It's a lovely car.
Welcome back Harry :)
Harry is the man. Another great video.
Really nice, thank you for making this.
I love how crisp the audio is on this one :)
Chest mic for the win :)
These cars are beauties and Harry is 'the Man'. More like this please : )
I could cry when I look at prices 10-15 years ago.
I would love to see you do a video of a 993. I have a cabrio with the interior out of a 964 Jubilee.
Old 911 prices have to crash at some point. They are getting beyond ridiculous, if you love 911's then that's fine. But think what other exotic beauties you could get for your money instead of a weezy air cooled 2.4
stoppsi The whole oldtimer market will crash at some point in the near future. As with the stock market, there are so many people just buying and selling these cars for profit that eventually the market will collapse. Hopefully that will mark the moment when proper enthusiast can start buying cars again.
stoppsi Agreed. Prices have gone bonkers.
stoppsi Rest assured: people forking 100 K+ at auction for a 2.4s tend to be rich people and rich people tend to have several exotic beauties...
stoppsi While I agree that prices for long nose early 911's (1969-1973) as well as the pre-long nose cars have gone through the roof in the passed couple years, it should be noted that they were pretty stagnant for the previous 20 years.
Like many classic cars (of all marques) that have seen huge appreciation of late, many have also been flat for a very long time. So in most cases, these are long overdue market correct adjustments. They might be slightly over corrected but finally enthusiasts are noticing and appreciating these cars as pure, fun driver cars.
Bargains for driver quality, non "S" models can still be found if you look hard enough. These beauties are outlier, blue chip collectables and as such command the big bucks, like anything else in life. These are out of reach for most of us, but we can still appreciate them for what they are.
stoppsi Do classic car prices ever crash? They're only going to get older and rarer...
Forgot to note that the light ivory 2.4S is 'only ' a LHD example, an RHD being less common is 'worth' more.
Running a pre'73 911 is an expensive cult activity, a worn door pocket (basically cardboard with plastic and anodised alu trim ) costs over 250 pounds each, there are four.
I really regret not getting a couple of old air-cooled 911's back in 2006 when I had the opportunity. I'll wait until this current bubble bursts!
Just got a new sub. Great video, very cool guy.
hey ,if anyone else is searching for guide to buying a used porsche try *Pyzork Porsche Purchasing Professor* (do a google search ) ? Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my work buddy got excellent success with it.
I like how auction houses give guide prices for cars; is anyone really going to an auction not knowing what something should be worth? I suppose that there is the odd investment banker who isn't actually into cars going to buy an investment, perhaps one who would also buy subprime mortgages.
This info was great, love Harry's Garage.
More videos please. Request from nashville Tennessee U.S.A.
I rhink this is your first video in over 6 months...
very interesting !
Tell us, how much they fetched at auction later please
I love pre-73 911's but £130-140,000 for one is very strong money for the car you're getting. I understand the S supersedes the E and T variants but you could buy other collectables like the S1 E-type 4.2 roadster or coupe for about £40,000 less. I recently say a 912 for £90,000+ which is INSANITY! Here's hoping the Porsche bubble bursts in a few years time!
Lovely cars but I'll personally be waiting it out until the market crashes or has a reasonable adjustment.
You have to understand that even those old 911's are unique in today's world. There is nothing that drives like them on the road.
As a sports car they are still drivable on the road today and fun. There are so few of them and at the same time there are just too many people who want them and have money to buy them.
If you want a modern car that drives anything like that you will need to shell out big money.
Hello Harry, when you briefly reviewed the blue 964RS/CS car, I noticed the Motec ECU. PAG didn't spec them that way, correct?
The Porsche 964/964 RS is definitly my dream car (besides the Group B-stuff). But I probably will never be able to purchase one...
i agree with some of the comments but these look like really nice gimbal shots.
Harry for Top Gear!!!!!
No video from goodwood?
I'd have to take the 964, one of those is the ultimate 911 for me. I don't know why, there's just 'something' about it.
Harry is that a Panerai Pam 127 1950 ?
I wonder how harry would review a 944?
230,000 pounds for the blue one? Geez old Porsche prices are just outta control, makes no sense
I was in he market for a 3.2 911 but my budget could no longer give me what I wanted. Bought an NSX instead - so much more car for the money, but I still dont have an 911.......
Harry what model is your watch?
Could had imported one from the USA to Australia for $25-30K twenty years ago, I'm sorry I didn't do it.
Dad thanks
hi mr. harry
Do you have any Cosworths Harry
Poor Harry.
Harry would take the 911S 2.4, so I don't mind taking the 964 RS.
I bought a 911 2.4 S targa in Germany in 1986 at a price DM 14.500 about € 7000 now drove it for 4 years amazing car and sold it
in 1990 at a price of DM 19.000 is € 9000 omg I wish I still had that car 😡
72 911s or 964 N/GT? decisions decisions.
🥰
Thought jeremy clarkson was in the thumbnail
As did I.
Who's the racing driver in question?
***** Ulrich Richter
230k with some shit ebay cone filter on it .......I demand it has the standard air box put back on it !!
SuperLitherland i am sure you will get the original with the auction
embarrassing showing it to the world like that though...tut
964 is my least favourite 911, closely followed by the 996.
Buying guide to 911 964RS. Sell your house, car, clothes and you'll be nearer to buying one.
@3:09 there are too many stickers in the engine bay of the 2.4S. The second one from the left should not be there. Common mistake.
I spy a new mic yo!
Just had an idiotic eureka moment... Blaupunkt means blue spot!!!
Jeez, I'm such a plank.
If you have a 150 large to spend on a motor like that....You must have won the Euro Millions no way!
sucks cameraman, he is probably focus on that guy more than the 911
ill take the 964 rs please
RS is worth money but this silly money for generic pre74 cars is moronic
In terms of looks I'd rather stick with my 996.1
Advertisment? Maybe...!
all good but to the cameraman, pls focus on the engine when he is talking about the engine and not his face. thanks
Noce cars but i wouldnt pay them stupid prices
Advice for cameraman: next time point the camera on the vehicle when presenter talks about it, not to the presenter's face.
Half of the video is useless, because one can't see what's been talked about! Just over dub presenter's voice.
I bet you couldn't do any better, Mr No Subs!
These comments make me rage, so unbelievably rude. There are so many variables for filming, were the static shots taken first as the car was clean before being driven, were they pushed for time, is Harry scripted (it doesn’t sound like it, in a good way, sound natural and off the cuff). I doubt this was done in one take, if so you may well have over an hours footage of Harry just chatting to the camera and the editor simply picks out the best bits with the simple hope that they have the footage to tie in with what’s being discussed. You can always tell these comments come from people that have absolutely no experience in the industry, but it shows how good the quality of work is when the video inspires their expectations to be so high!
i really think the 964 RS is one of the most overpriced 911s of all time, anyone can turn a stock 964 into an "RS" for a fraction of the price...ridiculous
*****
I've owned a 964 RS CS but have to agree with you .
Bit like buying an original Nocaster when a Relic will do the same thing I suppose.
If your dripping in oil money I guess you'd buy the original.
I sold mine 12 years ago, it was a mega car both on track and road.
I'm practical as hell but it did not matter at the time.
These day's I'm haply with a shifter kart !!!!
good guitar analogy! and while i'd love to own a genuine 964 RS i just think they're wayyyy too expensive these days...same with vintage Fenders for that matter
It's a shame that the RS will probably spend the rest of its life as a trailer queen in a collection somewhere . I have to admit though, that 2.4 is cooler than a penguins bum.
save your money and buy a new one
Both cars are nice but are you mad,you could buy 2 new ones drive one and keep the other for spares at thoes prices or 2 slightly used ones and have 1 track car.Lots of other ways to get into owning a 911 and have fun with that amount of money. They are just cars nothing that great about them. Video wasn't filmed very well and the editing was worse imo
Poor camera work- cameraman needed to frame a little bit lower for us to see the details when you are describing engine bay etc.
Really? That's your contribution? To complain about the camera work . . . how sad
Adopt me.
I love 911's, but i hate the typical dumb fucks that buy them... they are so picky they act as if literally they were buying something that god him self hand built... if you want to buy something fast and go with out the accommodations of a modern car... buy a kit car and build it yourself... and it will be faster lighter and cheaper.
So that's it, huh? Porsches are officially blue chip investments. Sad...
Please stop slamming those hoods they will bend and crease
dirty harry growing bald already.perks of being a salesman
130,000 for this matchbox is silly.buy a new model and save cash to spare for a trip to alps
