Depressed by his own failures, he kept his daughter at a distance. When she reaches out to him years later, he at first tries to buy her affection only to learn that all she ever wanted from him was to know who he was, which was what he was most terrified to show her. Simply beautiful writing.
He also didn’t want to support her dream at first because he saw it going to fail just like his did.

Hazbin and Helluva really got me thinking about _my_ daddy issues.
Okay are these show connected because I keep hearing about helluva boss and helluva I have only watched huzbin what is helluva is it a prequel sequal? Do I have to watch it if I want watch huzban please tell ?

My theory for the ducks is that he was fixated on the moment Charlie first laid eyes on one of his creations, the part where she sneaked in while he was working, and so he held on to that memory of her smile despite being estranged for a long time. There's also that line he sings, "I've missed that smile."
i never thought about that, his duck creation might have been the first time he saw Charlie wide eyed and in wonder so he stuck to ducks.....thats absolutely adorable in a kinda sad way
I honestly also thought that Lucifer's obsession with ducks is because it's Charlie's favorite animal.
i headcanon that he's based on a cockatiel (a type of pet bird) but i also headcanon he is fixated on ducks because he sees himself as "the ugly duckling"

I really like how they depicted Lucifer. Charlie and Lucifer's song also blew me away with how much the voice actors embody these roles. They passionately put their heart and soul into said songs and vocals. I love how much of a caring and loving father Lucifer is, albeit he has trouble connecting to his daughter and is a bit of an anti-social goofball, still loves Charlie no matter what and wants to believe in her vision. Still, he sees himself in her and doesn't want her crushed under Heaven's laws/ruthlessness. But despite how scared he is and how much of a failure he feels like, his daughter brings out his hope once again and sees his dream live on through her vision to redeem sinners, so of course, he'd be willing to do anything he can to support her and try and convince Heaven sinners can be redeemed. Jeremy Jordan and Erika Henningson both did a phenomenal job in this episode. I also love how Alastor is the ultimate troll in this show as he already SAVAGELY roasted Vox, and the fact he has the guts to roast Lucifer in front of his own daughter (who seemingly goes along with it) indeed shows how little f***s Alastor gives. I also love that Alastor hasn't sworn this entire time in the show or in the pilot, yet he saved his first F-bomb and said it directly to the King of Hell, Lucifer, himself; he is just a complete legend!
I do wonder who Alastor is under the control of. A lot of people, including myself, have theorised that Alastor is taking orders from Lilith (Charlie's mom), who may have sent Alastor to act as a guardian to protect Charlie and keep her dream alive; after all, both Alastor and Lilith are said to have been seen in 7 years. Yet, Alastor suddenly shows up out of nowhere to help, which seems way too coincidental.
It's definitely one of the best songs of the series
I think it's someone we meet next episode named Sera. No hard evidence yet, but she seems a more likely candidate to me than Lilith. That said, Lilith is still involved.

I am so glad they made Lucifer such a caring dad. Sure he's kind of a doofus who isn't exactly good at this, but he is legit trying and does truly love Charlie. Also Hearing Alastor use profanity is GOLD. That’s how you know he’s really upset because nobody really gets to him.
Lucifer is one of my favourites, he's a genuinely good guy and he truly loves Charlie more than anything he just didn't know how to show it due to his depression.
7:31 Please note that Alastor is literally not showing his true colors while saying that he cares Charlie as a daughter he spawned. And it is just him, not Charlie or Lucifer.
yeah they made it clear enough that Alastor was just doing it cause Lucifer was there xD In a somewhat sissy move from a point of protecting vulnerability. He's antagonising Lucifer fighting him passive aggressively since Lucifer might be stepping on a place which Alastor has attached himself to.

The rivalry between Lucifer and Alastor for Charlie's attention (and the hilarious song spawned from it) was so crazy to witness. They made Lucifer so relatable as a character, plagued by his own doubts but in the end, loving his daughter and wanting to protect her more than anything.
It was interesting to see how much Alastor cares, by introducing Mimzy who brought her problems with her to the hotel. The little bit of backstory we got about Alastor (at least from Mimzy's POV) was really creepy.
Lucifer's song/duet with Charlie was definitely the best part of the episode by far - such an emotional ride and it revealed just how much Lucifer wants Charlie to make it, despite his awkward behaviour at the start.

in the first episode, they explained that lucifer was not able to see the good in people because heaven casted him out and threw him and lilith to hell. he never got to witness the human souls that go to heaven, so he’s only seen the worst of the worst. it’s actually so sad

I do think Alastor might care slightly despite himself but the whole "I see you as a daughter" bit was complete bullshit to get back at Lucifer xD And sure Lucifer might be a threat to his scheming (harder to make a contract with Charlie if Lucifer is around fixing everything) but in the end I mostly think Lucifer is a threat to Alastor's ego more than to his plans.
Charlie took after her father a lot more then she or Lucifer ever realized.
"More than anything" made me cry. My dad was also very protective over me, he always helped me make my dreams come true... I miss him so much. To this day I don't know why he took his life and left me alone 😢
Unfortunately that's a problem I think humanity is starting to face now more than ever. I suspect it's to do in our fast advancement in emotional intelligence the past century. It's why I've pursued education and a career in Psychology and mental health after the military. I still remember the first suicide on the 1st base I was at. My next door roomate and it was my bunkmate that found him hanging. Things became much easy after bootcamp and yet after getting past all that and the jobs we both had was advanced. Too have achieved through all that yet still take your life and everything you've just accomplished. Why and how could I have helped? That question burned in me ever since then and for everything I've witnessed since.We need more people there on the frontlines of mental health, especially with how much the population increased.
idk if it was a headcannon or true but, I read somewhere that Lucifer's duck obsession comes from Charlie, because when she was little and saw his dream swan she loved it (17:22), and after losing her he was hopelessly and obsessively trying to make her the perfect duck but none of them were good enough for her😭

I think the reason why Alastor is mad at Lucifer is because he needs to make a deal with Charlie and for that he NEEDS to look like the best option, but if Lucifer stays then Charlie wouldn't need Al
I think Alastor is controlled by Lilith (they both disappeared 7yrs ago and no one knows why), and she ordered him to help Charlie, but his real goal is to get Charlie to make a deal so he can leverage that into getting out of his contract with Lilith.
Lucifer, the short king, guy is one goofy mfer, but a loving father.
Incidentally, his name Lucifer comes form Luxifer which is the Latin translation of Hel'El which means the 'Light of God'.

Also it seems like since Alastor can't challenge Lucifer on a power level that he has to challenge him over Charlie instead. 'Cause with all other characters, Alastor is a threat. To Lucifer, Lucifer barely cares who Alastor is until he starts getting chummy with Charlie.
