    I’ve owned a disco from new with ACE and apart from a bolt on the pump coming loose after about 5 years it’s been faultless!
    Even the suspension drop links lasted for 170,000 miles and I’ve only just replaced them all again after the first set I fitted were rather crap in quality!
    It really does make the car feel planted on the road and makes it much safer.

    • @SiCrewe
      @SiCrewe Před 2 lety +1

      Back in 2002 I had a Disco 2 as a company car and the ACE failed on a sweeping motorway bend, at 70mph, and I ended up veering across all 3 lanes and barely avoided hitting the central armco barrier.
      Made me SERIOUSLY concerned about ACE.
      Bought a Disco 2 of my own in 2008 and promised myself that I'd remove the ACE and replace it with normal ARBs.
      Here we are, in 2021, and I still haven't quite got around to it yet.
      I guess ACE isn't that bad after all. ;-)

      @gmcevoy Před 2 lety +3

      Indeed. There is an information video on this very channel about it (I think). Pretty nifty system. There is a sensor in the roof, and suspension actively counteracts any roll being sensed. Only available as of the D2. The D1 didn't have it.

      @@mcmcolm I don’t think the model of D2 they’re using is a correct representation of the UK standard spec. It’s a face lifted model and appears to be the base model E spec which I have myself. A 5 seater with unpainted bumper (no other model had this), no roof rails or sunroofs or wheel arch mouldings etc. This model was not available with rear air suspension or ACE.
      On coil springs without ACE it rolls like you’d expect a top heavy 4x4 to.
      I guess that silver Discovery may be a mixture of models straight from Land Rover. Bit naughty!

    • @checa160
      @checa160 Před 2 lety +1

      Don’t know about the X5, but the disco 2 with ACE is really good on road in terms of handling for a 20 year old car.
      The sistem keeps the car really flat, so easy to turn anf keep the speed.
      It’s not a beast brakingwise when you are “rallying” as in a small car, but not bad to say the truth.
      X5 should be better, as they had the discos and ranges under they ownership to know them and improve them.
      But in this video we only see cornering angles or stability, and I’m not surprised the disco keeps better angles to a point.
      Being faster would probably put tyres and center of gravity into the ecuation.
      The X5 would probably begin to outperform the disco, something completely understandable being a design 10 years newer….
      Cheers

    Always amazes me how the soft roaders are competitors?! I know most of the time they are on road, but the merc and BMW (as today) are jokes off the tarmac. Additionally, it’s about the capability too, and again the German SAV’s are pretty hopeless
    The X5 - the looks of a 4x4, the capabilities of a 1 series 😂😂

    • @jerzy3144
      @jerzy3144 Před 2 lety

      I drive the X5 daily and I have to say I love it for what I use it for. Mostly driving around town, and dont care about any high pavements and other stuff. When I go to the forest i never have to worry that i will get stuck in the sand or mud (because it's not that extreme, but it would be for a normal car) so i think it is good depending on what you expect from it. Of course its not on a level of a Range Rover (or Land Rover) when it comes to off road, but the point of this car was to make an "SUV" thats more sporty and people who drive it wont take it off road
