You know what, we can all laugh and joke, but this truly is Social history at its finest. THIS is history. The everyday people and practices that make up our country. The UK is full of these wonderful places, people, stories and histories and I'm really glad it's been captured in such a catchy and endearing way. Well done, Coventry!
Lelly Talks I moved here last year - Cov market is brilliant. Went there this morning - bought second hand records, coffee beans from Ed’s, had breakfast, bought stuff for dinner. Love it!
Hands up if COVENTRY MARKET ALL KINDS OF EVERYTHING still pops in to your head at least once a week in 2023
Probably 10 times a week for me
Worked In Cov market for years... New con well r.I.p, my dad a proud Coventry man was the second man to sing on this.. He's in video a few times.. So proud of you dad..Sadly layed him to rest today . .my dad always said be proud of where you live and he was xxx
sarah carter I'm so sorry to hear that. I was the producer on this project and I remember your dad, a lovely man.
Thankyou Siobhan Harrison. My dad loved to sing since he was a kid. He was so chuffed to be involved with this, Got to try and get copy to show and keep x
Is this the one wearing the hat? At 60 seconds in?
Sorry for your loss Sarah. I saw this on Harry Hill earlier (Never even usually watch Harry Hill to be honest) but it was so catchy and it's been i my head all day, had to CZcams it! Your father contributed to something wonderful here!
STFU
I want to say a big thank you to the people of Cov for cheering me up over the last 6 months.
Coventry people are the nicest people in the world. Fact!
Thank you, thank you, thank you...
Benjamin
I know people are taking the piss but it's actually lovely to see a group of such diverse people coming together for this
Not taking the piss, glad to be alerted to it.
i lost my child in cov market once
very diverse . all kinds of everything
Disability included, sorry I'm biased being that and seeing naff all.
This makes me so proud to come from Coventry...
totoro698 same I'm also from coventry ☺
Why?
This is embarrassing!
This was one of my first jobs in this market. I worked Saturdays selling veg. The Market had history. This film brings back lots of memories - the heavily sweetened tea and the beautiful toast - we lived on during a working day.
Who's here due to Harry Hill?
CFJ Gaming me
CFJ Gaming me 😂
Me! I was born in Coventry and used to go to Coventry market a lot but I didn’t realise there was a song about it until a few months ago. I was in Coventry market last week and was telling my dad about the song 😂😂
Who?
I've lived in Coventry for 11 years now but only found out about this because of Harry Hill.
This city is so cringe I love it.
I'm from Brazil and I live in coventry for two years now and I loved the video..it was really well done.
Congratulaions everyone
My sense of humour is completely broken because I find this hilarious for some reason
Beautiful. Really beautiful. Makes me proud to have visited it. I'm glad the ol' fella won his rug lady.
Hamilton got nothing on this masterpiece. Forget Dear Evan Hansen, Les Miserables ect this is where its at bois
Take it like a man 2
60 years today! Happy birthday Coventry Market.
Matt Bellamy sent me here. something about the best video ever. no way, matt
linkdevivo SAME, HAHAHA
Yes it is all Matts fault...:)
Btw I glad to know how Matt found this gem..
Harry hill , thanks for showing me this GEM! pissing myself with laughter XD (from coventry myself)
Gareth Peabody me too! But I didn’t realise there was a song. I was there last week to buy a phone case 😂😂
Just seen this for the first time on Harry Hill. Absolutely hilarious. Reminds me of Wonderland's episode about Frinton On Sea. Something I'm going to watch again and again. Full credit to the composer, Benjamin Till, I don't think it would have worked anywhere near as well if it didn't have such a catchy melody. What really makes it is the strange juxtaposition of the uplifting melody and the somewhat "dodgy" singing and acting. Comedy gold, (I'd like to think unintentionally...but who knows?)
I have just heard that Con, the caretaker at Coventry market, and the first person to appear in this film, died just before Christmas. He was the absolute heart of our project and I would like to dedicate this film to his memory. Rest in peace, Con. The market will not be the same without you. You were a truly wonderful man. Love, Benjamin Till, proud composer and Coventrian.
This is hands down the best thing that has ever been created. I've watched it hundreds of times and I always see something new. CASHEWS! Who wants to come to a Coventry market fancy dress party? I'm going to go as the Lady Who Sells Rugs... what are you going as?
Wow - what amazing talented people there are in Coventry?! Great film, looks like it was a lot of fun.
I'm here because of Harry hill
Motörhead same lmao
Motörhead yup

How to start a riot in Coventry. Just "accidentally" play this over the p.a. system at any League one match involving the Sky Blues.
in my opinion this is the absolute artistic pinnacle of mankind
con was a lovely person have known him for over 30years and his 1st wife betty who passed away someyears ago rip con
This is easily the most amazing video I've seen and I just come back to it every year, proud to be from cov 👑 its aged so well, now it's hilarious as well!

Sondheim is smiling at this from heaven.
Well done to everyone involved. You've done us all proud. God bless Coventry indeed!
I'm glad that I saw this in my life.
Who just watched Harry Hill!?
I honestly can't tell you how many times I've seen this video since clips of it were shown on Harry Hill's show. I know the lyrics and have been imagining who backstories about the cast. I'm particularly fond of the 'The Day They Tried To Kill Our Town' man who has such style and flair. He looked so happy to be on Harry Hill too. I'm thinking of visiting Coventry (from Manchester) just to see the market.
DavidXBrunt I'm imagining more stories will come your way when you do!
Absolutely! Whenever I see this little guy I immediately think of Jackie Wright! Most of the other people in the video seem to act fairly naturally so it would be very interesting to know what direction he was given by the producers. I agree it was also pretty clear that he was absolutely thrilled to appear on Harry Hill. We really need to know this guy's back story. The other ones that I found particularly interesting were Richard Whitcomb, (sorry if your name was miss-spelt but the alternative provided by youtube was Richard Whitebait), Lady Godiva, the key cutting guy, and the Gorden Kaye look-alike who appeared to absolutely smashed off his head.
my granny lives in coventry and whenever i used to visit her we always went to coventry market and i used to L O V E the merry-go-round cause there was an upstairs on the bus carriage wow childhood
Proud to be from.Cov and have worked here on occassions
Is this the midlands’ answer to “Tyne and Wear Metro: The Musical”?
Brilliant and so very endearing to have so many everyday people get together and make this. I love our market and glad it’s still a success.
Thankyou Hadditor, yes my dad was the man in Grey trilby with tash x
Ainsley Harriotts saxophone performance brought me here.
Matt Bellamy sent us here.
It's been about four years since I first discovered the merriment of this and Benjamin Till's other musicals, and I still wet myself laughing at the fairytale union between Mr Dicky Bow and the lady who sells rugs. If you haven't seen it, I can't recommend the Tyne and Wear Metro musical enough either. If you're reading, Mr Till, please make a comeback, we're all waiting patiently here for "NCP Car Park in Concert" and "Northern Rail: The Opera"...
Thankyou Jonny Stone,, seeing this again due to harry hill clip.. he was a great singer to which all who knew him miss x
harry hill sent you here
mk2passat yep, how did I not know about this before
this is true art
...no it didn
BRILLIANT! Bought a smile to my face (and memories of being dragged around the market as a small child)! The guy who runs the cobblers and key cutters is a lovely bloke. I'd recommend him to anyone who needs their boots reheeling! ;)

I still think about this all the time

Did you ever go?
LOL my friends in that! That place looks awesome! They hired soo many people band great lyrics! They worked really hard on that! WOW loads of stuff cool!
This was composed and produced by Benjamin Till, I still talk to him to this day after I met him when I was in the Newcastle version of the musical based around the Metro system - Metro The Musical.
Happy Tenth Anniversary to all those who took part in this film. This is dedicated to those who are featured in the film who are no longer with us.
Brings back some Memories, my father used to work as night watchman here back in the late sixties, and a friends father had a stall. We used to come in on sundays and cycle round when it was empty. Also under the market there is a similar layout of "tunnels" great fun when your only 8 years old!
Thanks Harry hill!!
Well done, Benjamin! You've done it again - bonkers but beautiful x
