    I have lived in Philippines for 4-6 months a year for 15 years. I love the people and the country. Two things I have noticed; 1. they are not quite so "foreigner friendly", almost certainly due to a minority of disrespectful Foreign A-holes who think money buys entitlement (events posted on CZcams of bad behaviour) . I personally think it is always good to keep in mind you are a guest here and an representative of your own country. The second is the increase in obesity as a doctor it concerns me the timebomb of metabolic disorders; high blood pressure, diabetes , cholesterol. I dont want to come across as negative as its concern, as I stated I love the people and the country very much

    I wish the infrastructure would include more sidewalks. Sidewalks are not thought of as a luxury until there are none. Also wish the law would enforce not peeing in public areas. There are some beautiful lakes that have potential and nice bridges, buildings, and sites that would be great to visit if it were not for the smell of urine. Once that is taken care of, it would make the smaller cities way more pleasant to visit. Also the trash pickup services need to be expanded in the province areas. I couldn't believe that it does not exist in some country provinces.

    • @binkysteaver9880
      @binkysteaver9880 Před měsícem +7

      The mere presence of sidewalks doesn’t seem to help much in most of Southeast Asia because the people cover the sidewalks with all of their junk, plants, signs, motorbikes, and anything else they can find which forces the tourists walk in the street. The drivers hate dealing with the pedestrians, and the tourists hate having to walk out in the street dodging cars and motorcycles. The locals are very territorial about the sidewalks and many of them block them intentionally.
      Most tourists do a lot of walking, but Southeast Asian countries don’t seem to understand the importance of walkable areas in attracting tourists dollars.

    • @jaymic1
      @jaymic1 Před měsícem +1

      Westerners tend to stay in areas with a lot of other westerners. You gotta enjoy what Filipino’s consider FREEDOM. Coming here and demanding perfect sidewalks for instance, is trying to control and change it. I am married to a Filipina and I don’t see other westerners here in Rizal province. I like it that way. ❤😂 good video.

    When it comes to Philippine rubber band time, I walk if I wait past 20 minutes.
    I'll get a call two hours later, where AM I? We were supposed to meet at 7 am and they show up at 9 or 10 am.
    If they don't respect my time, they don't get it. They usually don't do it again.
    It makes me believe they are not hire material. And most likely on there phone when they are supposed to be working.
    I AM strick like Derek, from q adventures. NO PHONE USE WHILE ON THE CLOCK. And my employees must be on the clock one hour before business starts. All to be prepared and ready for any customer that shows up.

    It's not the Philippine people or their great culture that's the issue. It's the excessive bureaucracy, stringent lending practices, declining currency, inflated speculative land and condominium prices, questionable ownerships, banks hamstrung with little government support, wages, transit infrastructure delays that are the biggest issues.

    Thailand's government put a lot of money in food tourism to make it presentable for tourists. The Philippine's government is too busy trying to secure the country atm to put focus on tourism plus the regionalism is too strong to make one set recipe/menu for everyone else to follow. This doesn't mean that PH doesn't have good food. It's just that it's harder to get to them.

    when the interviewee starts comparing one country to another about food, safety, economy, culture, etc. -- that's a red flag folks!🚩
    it's like comparing the u.s.a to canada or mexico (which obviously are "incomparable" to each other) -- they're beyond compare!
    it's sad that some tourists keep pushing this "red hot conversation" as if comparing the philippines to thailand, vietnam, cambodia, malaysia, indonesia, singapore, etc. -- would make them "knowledgeable," "edgy" or "high above the rest" and that what comes out from their mouths are "gospel of truth"
    i hope this "comparison babble" has to end somewhere
    i hope ... 🙏

    • @Livingabroadalex
      @Livingabroadalex  Před měsícem +3

      How is that a red flag exactly?
      You realize most of my audience are foreigers, retirees, or expats who want to move abroad and very often have no idea about these countries. If my gueats have visited multiple countris in SE Asia, then they are the perfect candidates to provide insight.
      If the conversation moves that way, then so be it.
      I suggest you focus on all the positive things 99% of my guests say about the Philippines instead of the 1% you may be offended by.

      let's celebrate diversity, differences, uniqueness, authenticity & creativity -- in culture, values, food flavors, beliefs, customs, businesses, attractions, so on & so forth
      let's frown upon or call out misbehavior, corrupt practices, rude conduct, improper social etiquette, lawlessness, unconventional laws, bizarre standards, unsafe operations, etc.
      it's not wise to normalize "comparing countries" -- as if one country is way better than the other, or ahead of the pack or the race -- especially matters concerning food, economy, culture, etc.
      honestly, it made other people (be it in southeast asia, south asia, latin america, africa, etc.) feel more uncomfortable, weak, inadequate or ill-equipped -- when in reality it's just the interviewee's prejudices, biases, preferences and judgments (whether clouded or not)
      through the decades, many of the best journalists / reporters / correspondents / writers / etc. around the globe -- stay away from presenting about the so-called "comparison" ("as if one country is way better than the other") -- that's the hallmark of what "great" reporting really is
      these people always want to present to the world >> the "essence" of respect, tolerance, open-mindedness, empathy, understanding and interpersonal connections >> whether it be about a highly developed nation or an underdeveloped one
