We run a couple 4880s still on our farm, they pull 80ft of heavy harrows as well as 50ft of anhydrous cultivator, or “chisel plow” as the Americans say. We’ve had great luck with them, ran them for over twenty years and the only major part we needed to replace was the hydraulic pump, they pull hard and work great! From Saskatchewan Canada

My grandfather bought a 4880 new, last tractor he bought before passing the farm to my uncle. My dad put many hours on it, mostly used for tillage work. One day while pulling the chisel, and with a Dodge pickup behind that, it snapped the power shaft while climbing a curved road up a tall hill in road gear. No way to stop it at that point, freewheeled back down the hill. Totaled the Dodge when it jackknifed but kept the rest straight. Traded in 1992 for both a JD 4650 and 4850 MFWD shortly before I came into the picture.

I farm in eastern Iowa and I’m young enough (around 30) that I don’t think I’ve ever seen one being used in a field around where I’m at as far back as I can remember. It seems most people went the chisel plow+disc route 40 years ago here, or the big guys use a disc ripper.

We owned one of the 4880 tractors. The 903 Cummins was quite an engine, with lugging power unmatched at the time, the 18 spd transmission was great, you could always find a speed/gear to get the job done. We had a 10 bottom White plow, then added an 11 bottom White plow so we had 21 bottoms turning dirt at one time, made easy work out of 80 acre fields. During the spring we pulled ft 25 ft, field cultivator with an Unverferth rolling basket harrow.

We shut down our farm for lack of land. Tractor sits beside the hi-way with a for sale sign on it. We want 20k cad for it, but I guess it's easier to lease new ones. Cab and paint are rough on ours. My son has a paint shop, so its getting hauled to his place for paint, cab kit and some luvin. Lol!! Price after the work will be 30k cad. Try finding 325 hp with these options on a lease...for that $ you won't. Tractor is located in Sask. Canada. Always enjoy your videos with that "take no prisoners sound 903 V-8". Lol!! TOG out!!

Hey my parents and brother just sold out their share of our family farm and we'll be having the equipment sale next April 12th so you could get a great deal on a JD8970 on almost new 42" triples or a Smart-track NH T9.615. i might be looking for one of these older 4wd, tho i'd far prefer an FW60 with 3pt.

Hi Doug. I usually see you over on Nick's channel. Check out my post here. Once ours is loaded, it can go to Manitoba instead of Weyburn. Lol!

@ Dang it, never noticed the type-o, its an 8970 4wd with the factory N14 Cummins. Thanks for your kind words, and yeah i'm gonna try vlog the transition back to a sustainable lower chemical use commercial farming practice.
