It good to see maintenance content on tape echoes. I have an analog echo as the maintenance is something I don’t know enough about.

is the echo fix tape suitable for a roland re-201?

Don't forget to clean the pinch rollers and anything else the tape touches!

Yes we have an updated video coming that shows this. Roller should be cleaned at 300hrs and will show this as well.

It should last between 100hrs and 300hrs. It all depends on humidity.

@@echofix Hey what happens sonically if you keep it longer than that... I am interested in buying an EF-X2, but I wonder how to get it to Wow and Flutter like an RE-201. I noticed upon watching many videos, especially the ones on That Pedal Show channel, that the old RE-201 has these different characteristics of being warmer and less predictable with the pitch wobble in the sound and repeats. It really seems to be wow and flutter and I wonder if I can get your unit too sound like this too. I couldn't find any video with this special tone. Maybe this is only an inherent characteristic of the RE-201 design being less stable and the fact that it is 35/40 years old.
How can I get your unit to sound like that ?
By letting the tape worn out and being more than 300 hrs, or is your design just more stable and precise with the motor/speed and more has just a more modern HI-FI clean sound ? Should I just by an old one for that sound ?
      Thanks a lot

@@richardblaze99 Yes you will get more wow and flutter as the tape gets worn. This usually starts to happen at about 200hrs but depends on the tape batch and humidity.

@@echofix Hi there, thanks a lot for your answer ! Is it the only factor that contributes to THAT sound (tape wear) ? I really hear the RE-201 as more thick and more warm in its tone too... Maybe it goes with the preamp and the fact that it is noisier. But are there other ways to get me more in those thicker/warped tones with your unit (other than waiting for the wear of the tape)... I guess I worry that it might only get me half way there, and that you simply built a cleaner sounding and more predictable sounding unit (which is very nice to !!) but you know what it is to have a specific tone in the head! Thanks again

@@richardblaze99 The EF-X2 at normal EQ settings sounds brighter than an RE-201 but you can use the EQ control to get a lofi sound. We did this so the unit could be used on a greater variety of music styles and the EQ section gives you control of this. The wow and flutter sound you are talking about is usually the sign of a tape echo that has been poorly serviced and is about to break down. The EF-X2 has a CV motor speed control that you can run an LFO into to create that wow and flutter sound.
