- A short video of an erase head modification now available for new EF-X2 builds.
A few weeks ago we sent off an EF-X2 with this mod to @Hainbach , an experimental electronic musician based in Berlin, Germany. We found this mod to be very musical and have made it available on new EF-X2 builds.
It's especially useful if you enjoy:
- layering sounds
- unpredictability & randomness in your music
- designing soundscapes
Turning off the erase head means that sound already recorded to tape won't be fully removed as it passes by the erase head. Instead, the recorded sound will remain on the tape and continue to be played back on each pass of the tape loop.
Note: the recorded signal will degrade slightly on each pass of the tape loop, resulting in recorded sounds becoming more lo-fi.

Can this mod be added to units we own?
Yes, it's possible! Please email info@echofix.com to organise :)
Seriously brilliant EF !
Interesting
Really cool
Is there any disadvantage to having the mod? I just ordered a new one yesterday from a dealer in the US and I don’t think I got the mod. This looks great!
Good demo but unfortunately the direct sounds are often so loud they drown out the loop, which is the main attraction here. It would be nice to hear how the loop degrades over time and how it sounds when there are overdubs on it.
thanks! We have a guitar demo on the way that will show more of this
Any progress on that guitar demo?
Will there only be 5 available forever or will you make more like these in the future ?
They can do the erase head mod (which is the only aspect shown on this demo) on any unit. The record head might be more limited though.
@@hoover728 what do you mean that the "record head might be more limited?" From what I can tell the mod doesn't affect the sound of the echofix in any way, other than the option of turning off the erase head.
@@JohnnyI43 I mean that the availability of the mod which turns off the record head as well as the erase head might be limited. This little thread might be confusing because some of us were brought here by an email saying that besides the erase head mod which is always available, they were offering 5 units which also had a mod that allows you to turn off the record head as well, which stops the degradation of the loop and allows you to play over it without adding new content. This video predates the email and doesn't feature the record head mod.
