Unboxing the Sega Game Gear, the handheld 8-Bit console from Sega to combat the Nintendo Gameboy in the late eighties / early ninties. Video taken with an iPhone 4.
Game Gear was a classic. Me and my mom used to stay up all night playing it, from Sonic 2, Columns, Super Monaco GP, and Revenge of Drancon. I also remember playing Tom and Jerry the Movie and Lucky Dime Caper starring Donald Duck. Was my first handheld and console experience.
That video was made the same day as my 17th birthday on February 12 2011 now I’m 27. I like my game gear now my game gear that I got back in December 2020 with the sonic 2 bundle early 1993 USA is currently getting the mcwill screen upgrade and refurbished my other game gear that I got back in 2015 works expect the sound part doesn’t work awesome video
MEME MASTER 69420 I finally got one last year. I grew up a Nintendo/ Sony fanboy so i never really cared for a game gear. I was initially disappointed but I’ve slowly learned to appreciate it after purchasing more games for the system.
This just popped up randomly. Nice unboxing. I had gotten to updating all my handhelds with new mods from Handheld Legend. Game Gear is that last one I gotta do with the mods I bought. Going to change the case to Mint color and am gonna change out the Halogen tube in the GG to a LED backlight to extend the battery life by many hours. I got my GG from an older kid that was bored of it and it came with 3 games. I think he owed me for something.
I had one of these when I was 13 and it was awesome. We didn't have cell phones, fast computers with high speed internet or great gaming systems. Having a hand held system like Game Gear to take with you while being drug around by your parents to places you didn't wanna go was absolutely awesome. Kids these days just do not have a clue how good they have it and they take it for granted. I cannot imagine how fun it would have been to have a drone that you could remotely pilot around your neighborhood and spy on your friends or a smart phone to play games on.. Then again, not having all of that stuff forced us to get out of the house and be adventurous or play games like football / manhunt, which led us to play hard like young men should do. Kids today may as well produce estrogen. They spend most of their time watching a screen and do hardly anything physical. It is the end of the era of Men and the beginning of an era of "men".
Totally. I have a Sega Nomad video on my channel showing the difference between a new LCD and the old original and it's night and day. Would so wish that was possible on the Game Gear.
I loved the Master System and Mega-Drive (Not forgetting the epic Game-Gear.) But when the Mega-CD came out the Graphics where Wow for Sonic CD. (Back then.) Too bad the Mega-CD didn't last...
This was the best and only hand held of it time as nintendo was still black and white 4bit someit and thos had near megadrive graphics on a hand held it was psp for its day
Bully at my middle school stole my Sega Gear and all of my games from my locker. I was devastated that day and even got in trouble for trying to get it back. Principal even let him keep it without consulting my parent.
Sergey Souprunov I've seen the Game Gear Micro. I'm a huge Sega fan and collector and even I have to say that there's so much room for improvement. I've started a petition on Change.org to get Sega to improve the Game Gear Micro, and if you'd like to sign it, here's the link: www.change.org/p/sega-get-sega-to-improve-the-game-gear-micro
the lcd on the packaging looks 1000 times sharper then it actualy is on the gamegear, even worse is that you have put the gamegear at 45 dagree angle to your face to see something and everything looks ghosty in motion,so you|| just have to gamble what you are doing and get used with it. i also own a gamegear with this game.
Then your Game Gear was not working properly. I had a Game Gear and I did not have a problem with the screen. I certainly did not have to look at it on an angle to see it properly. Of course it was not HD but it definitely had good quality for it's time. Maybe you just got a bad system, which was not uncommon.
@lakelet1 yeah, i give it to sega they had an amazing piece of hardware right there, but they just couldnt compete with Nintendo's hundreds of amazing games... granted the gamegear had a couple handfuls of good games.
+Don Elmediterraneo Maybe it's because I'm a Sega gamer, but I've always preferred the Game Gear over the Game Boy because of the Game Gear's color, brighter backlit screen, and line of Sega games.
If they made the battery life longer and made it smaller and more portable it would've defeated the Gameboy's cause overall the Gamegear did have better games
It was pretty amazing to get Master System graphics on a handheld back then. Its a shame about the battery life. It truly was the PSP of its day.

A cute story 😊❤️
I had Shinobi, Columns, Prince of Persia, Fantasy Zone, Spiderman vs Kingpin, Ariel, Crashtest Dummys, Kawasaki 🥰
I remember watching this video for the first time and wanting a Game Gear with Sonic 1 after seeing it.
It eventually happened. :')
Afraid not. I love my Game Gear. :)

I just bought a Recapped one with new glass screen on ebay
@Jeremy4366 I think that's called a feature. Should have added it on the box. :)
Oh yes.
Is that working to 60hz without mod? ( im italian)
@blocklandman0815 it failed because of terrible battery life, and it costed at least $50 more then the gameboy.
I had one!
Change the condensadors o the game gear
I WANT A GAME GEAR ;-)
@lakelet1 My first console was the Game Gear. Good times.
Ninjas are dangerous
@segafan230 Have to search ebay mate. Certainly some sellers will ship to Europe.
@ahmedomran1 Ebay has loads of consoles and games. Just have to hope to be lucky to get a good one.
What was you playing it with? A third party controller?
How heavy/deep are the scratches?
@skipmeister123 Awww you can't say that. It's awesome. :)
@Jeremy4366 Lol. Nothing like playing on the real hardware though.
Hmmm, not sure. :D
@fireheartis1 Bought it from eBay and then sent it to CZcams user MrDrumJay who fixed it up with new capacitors for perfect sound and video.
@diddler1979 Sweet can you tell me how much he charged you to fix it?
I kept my 360 and bought my Game Gear on craigslist for 20 bucks with 3 games. lol
And yet you watched it all and your name is adicakes. :p
Did you buy this brand new, and if you did it cost a pretty penny?

@fireheartis1 About £15 if I remember rightly. Google "ebay gearforgames" and you'll find his ebay store.
I wish someone would re-release Game Gear with an organic LED screen. :(
There are rumors about a Sega Game Gear Next Gen now.
How much did you buy it for?

Get your self on eBay and pick up a deal. Plenty of Game Gears around. :)

Great unboxing :) But how I don't know why you put in "Gameplay" in the title if you aren't actually playing the game.
regno_songs he let the “game” intro “play”
can these be shipped to europe from ebay and how do they cost?
No.
are you really mute or just playing? either way God bless! Merry Christmas!
Sonic and the Game Gear makes Mario and the Game Boy look like a complete joke
+Don Elmediterraneo Maybe it's because I'm a Sega gamer, but I've always preferred the Game Gear over the Game Boy because of the Game Gear's color, brighter backlit screen, and line of Sega games.
@Modernsonic1 Mute.
This is a demo

I was shy in my early video's. :)

@MsHakk123 Lol
Who needs a Vita anyway. :)
not me
You mean 3DS.
Anyway, me.
@@mario-highsierra1634 tu fo'cess
I had one in the 90's. Also an Atari Lynx and of course the original Gameboy in the 80's. You millennial hipsters know nothing :)
The game boy came out in 89 in Japan, in 90 in america and in 91 in Europe so you couldn't have one in the 80's
WOW AA_AAAA STOOPIT
Why the duck didn't you talk?
unintetional asmr
This is not gameplay
SHUT FUCKING UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks.
