What a combination, what a team. They worked so well together. Grodin with his dead pan delivery and Carson with that sharp wit. This is Classic. It's timeless. They nailed it every time Carson had him as a guest. Many viewers at the time actually believed that Grodin was being antagonistic toward Carson. They didn't get that it was a running bit between them.
Carson has a CZcams channel (look for it) you won't be disappointed... goes back 40 years +.. all of them funny.. I know he is gone, but he owns all the rights to these films and the man still is making money.. Genius..

Leno and Letterman also great....even Ferguson and Kilborn were fun....none of current hosts worth watching. Need to rely on bleeps because wit is lacking.

These guys were doing "irony," "breaking the 4th wall," and "meta" years and years before those were things; making a mockery of the format, while still operating within it's conventions. I feel so privileged to have lived through the era when it was first being done. Now it's all water-downed self-aware braindead 'silly', and worst of all cute. (how can anyone stomach Fallon or Colbert after seeing this?) It's sad that so much mainstream tv never got better (talk shows, sitcoms). Thank god for long-form podcasts, HBO, Netflix etc.
