    don't risk using random cables on modular psus unless you check every single pin with a multimeter. the pinouts are completely random even for the exact same brand and model.

      @THiNK103088 Před měsícem +14

      I'm really surprised he said that. You're never supposed to mix random psu cables with modular psu's because the pin outs are not standardised...a bit irresponsible

    • @dremy746
      @dremy746 Před měsícem +5

      I can't believe he recommended people keep their old PSU cables for other power supplies. People will kill their system doing this. I would be shocked if Brian didn't already know you can't mix modular PSU cables and likely tested them or double checked the pin-outs. Even just hooking up a PSU tester to an improperly wired PSU can kill the PSU or the tester. He really should have mentioned all this.

      Someone just did a video on this a week or two ago I dont remember who. They sent in an RMA and the manufacturer sent back the exact same model with a different pinout because they have didn't standardize among their suppliers.

      It feels kind of insane to me how, as a techie, if i wanna build myself a PC i wanna make it as futureproof as possible, mainly by CPU choice, yet most people just want something that works well enough in the moment so those older parts fit their not super intense use and of course at the prices they're being sold they're a great deal so even if longevity isn't quite there, most people don't mind it.

    @1:08 Last month I came upon an i5 9400 similar system for just 80€ (though it was brand new and sealed in the SI box) and it also came with a 500gb SSD. Paired with a GTX 1070 for 100€ (yeah a bit too much), another stick of 8gb DDR4 for 10€, an AIGO Ice 200+ wifi+fan hub and a set of fans (thermalright from amazon) for 28€ total, and make a simple cheap gaming system for my older brother (who was still playing with a mx 110 i5 8250u laptop). Btw AIGO Ice 200 stock fan is a 3 pin 90mm fan, so I found a deal for 15€ 3x120mm fan and 1 90mm for 5€. The AIGO+wifi+fan hub were 10€ (-2€ promo) for the 3 Choice option.

Watch those cables for the high end power supplies they are usually unique or proprietary (Corsair has a couple of tables telling you what generation cables will work with which power supply). Not just the mainboard one, but the PCIE cables, too.

    Few weeks ago went to an exchange. I asked for 5tb external usb 3.0, they pulled out a written 2tb for 61 euros and 5 warranty. I told them to check the wd elements on pc to verify its in good condition and show me. They said it was actually a 5tb partitioned to 2tb. So they ripped the warranty out and offered 61 euros without warranty or in a few hours 110 euros with 5 year warranty. I bought without warranty and got the best deal in a long time. Afterwards I went to a billion euro fnac French tech store, asked if they could verify if it needed repairs, 30 plus minutes later all checked out fine like exchange here in North of Portugal said, it was good condition and 1 month usage as in hours.

    I now have 3 optimal rigs and no longer have any interest in listening to tech news yet I am drawn to TYC. Cheers. We need another flip series. I finally ended up with a 4090/3900 pc from a 1660/i3 flip and a 7900GRE/5900x rig from a 580 8gb/3600 flip. Both following your series. My RTX A800 40gb is a different story that took me a year trading up but now makes me money hand over fist and all by accident. Cheers mate.

    That 1660 would go really well with the i5 8400 and the 500w psu in a flip up build

    Another banger Brian.
    Thanks for putting in the work my guy.
    Edit: the 2060 might be due to thermal pad degradation or not contacting one.

    I have a question. I see you using used parts and having obvious success putting them in new budget cases (usually with RGB) cleaning and flipping them. Is there any value using new premium sought-after cases with certain higher end used parts to flip for more overall, or are you just eating into your profits. I'm wondering about the value of a beautiful clean build in a high-end PC case on the used market.

    i would upgrade that asus pc with the 2060 or the 1080 you got and put a brand new psu in it just so it wont ever come back faulty also 32gb of ram would do great also make sure you set that amd stock cooler on high speed switch on its side so it can cool down that 3700x
