  • Try this easy baked salmon cakes recipe made with canned salmon. I generally use canned pink salmon for fish cake recipes because it’s far less expensive than red salmon. What’s the difference between the pink and red canned salmon? They are actually two different species of salmon, and the pink variety is more prevalent, so the cost is less.
    For the complete recipe and more tips on cooking canned salmon check out www.myfoodchannel.com/baked-sa...
    Salmon cakes taste great cooked in a skillet on the stove top, but baking them in the oven uses less oil, so if you’re looking to take a break from heavy fried foods, baked canned salmon is a healthy option.

      Chef Buck, Can I use Smoke Paprika?

    • @ChefBuckRecipes
      @ChefBuckRecipes  Před 4 lety +5

      definitely...smokes paprika is a strong flavor, but strong flavors work great in salmon cakes since salmon itself has such a strong flavor and can hold its own...one of my favorite things to add to salmon cakes is a strong curry spice mix, especially if I'm using them for burgers.

    Salmon cakes are a favorite at my house, I grew up in Nova Scotia and we also used canned lobster and mackerel. I loved the lobster as we made finger sandwiches with it for our lunches. We also met the boats in the mornings a couple times a week when they came in with the fresh catch we ate fish probably 6 nights a week as it was inexpensive compared to beef. TFS this today it brought back lots of great memories for me.

      I spent a summer living in Cooper Landing Alaska with a fishing guide and we had a freezer full of salmon and halibut, so almost every meal was some variation of seafood that cost us next to nothing...I definitely miss those meals. Canned salmon takes me back to my mom trying to get dinner on the table with 4 kids running around before my dad got home from work. Glad you enjoyed the vid--thanks for watching and leaving the nice comment!

I’m laughing at “squishy squish,” I guess it depends on the day your having, you could do “punchy punch!!!” 😂

    I love salmon patties and I learned an important tip from you today. I put onions in mine. Sometimes they fall apart. You just taught me that I am not chopping my onions small enough. An important tip for a salmon lover. Thank you! Can you do a show on what to do with canned sardines. I have two cans in my pantry that have been there quit awhile.

      I generally don't chop my ingredients as fine if I'm searing the patties and cooking them in the skillet, although I don't have overly large chunks either...but in the oven, it really helps to have minced or finely chopped onions and peppers

      You could even grate the onion, green pepper, carrot etc. with a box grater or microplane. I remember as a child, eating the salmon, bones and all with onion sliced on top. Gee, thanks for sharing this recipe and bringing back that memory ! It’s in my future very soon ❤️

      I got out of the habit of adding bread crumbs to salmon cakes years ago...never occurs to me to add them now

    I like to add minced celery leaves and shredded carrots also and season with tarragon. I make tartar sauce with mayonnaise, sweet relish and dill.

    I loved watching your Video. I'm going to make these salmon burgers. I had a question can you make these ahead of time and freeze them before you cook them and then when you want to bake them you can? Thanks for your video. Healthy I love it.

      You'll probably have better luck freezing them AFTER you cook them, then reheating them via oven or microwave.

    By the way, I love your timer. 😊😂

    You can definitely lighten up the density of these with breadcrumbs, smashed fresh bread, or grated potato. I would definitely go for these on a little King's Hawaiian bun with some cole slaw. Mmmn!

    Dill and ginger in the patties, then a slice of peach on top if using in a burger, or peach salsa. Moooocho good.

    Looks so good. Surprised that bread crumbs are not added as I thought they were if pan frying. But salmon anyway is good for me! This is so simple.

      My mom always cooked salmon cakes in a frying pan and she always added breadcrumbs into the mix...I often cook salmon cakes in a skillet, but I leave the bread crumbs out whether frying or baking

    I have to take all that gross skin and bones out before I cook it. Then after I recover from that, I mix in an egg, some cornmeal, S&P, Garlic & Onion Powder and a little bit of baking powder. Fry 'em up in the old cast iron skillet and yum, yum! They're even good cold. The cornmeal is my mother's recipe. I've never seen anyone else just use that in salmon cakes, but it is GOOD!

      @ChefBuckRecipes  Před 4 lety +2

      I used to remove the bones and skin...now that I'm getting older and lazier and cheaper, I'm too stingy to pass up on the nutrition. Salmon cakes are good cold! I like them for breakfast too, with an egg on top
