How to diagnose bad engine mounts: If you are experiencing shaking, thudding, clunking or vibration when shifting your vehicle into reverse or drive, or when sitting at a stop light, or hitting the gas, you might have worn out engine mounts! In this video, Andy explains why and how engine mounts wear out, and shows you what it looks like, and how to determine if you need to replace the engine or transmission mounts on your vehicle!

Replace every 5 to 7 years, you'll be good. If you don't maintain your engine mounts, the connection between the engine and the transmission will ware, and you'll have major issues later.

thanks for the video, so when you do the power brake (press the brake and push the gas in gear) you said if the engine moves "significantly" does that mean it's normal for the engine to move slightly ? thanks

Great video, I recently changed my motor mount i buy one from ford and the other two I bought it from auto zone I pay a mechanic to install the new parts and now it vibrating more. I need you advise of what I did wrong im thinking maybe the 2 parts I bought from auto zone was a bad idea. Should I go to ford and buy the other 2 mounts this vibrating is so annoying.

Good video and I found out I got bad mounts..I'm changing one mount at a time which should I start with? I drive a 2004 Toyota Camry 4 cylinder..
had them replaced but the vibrations increase when in D idle. aftermarket parts used , is this the reason for increased vibrations after replacement?
What exactly constitutes significant engine movement? I change my motor mounts and the engine still moves when I hold brake and accelerate although I can tell from in the cabin that the mounts are good. I took it to some mechanic in the hood who I assume was trying to rip me off but was showing me the engine moved and that I need new mounts. It did seem like a lot but again I know they are new and good.
How do you perform this power braking test on a manila all wheel drive drive? Specifically a Subaru WRX if it matters.
Replacing just one will more than likely ruin the new one soon because the old ones are still allowing too much movement putting too much stress on new mount.

Hi guys, im own one 500x 1.4 multiair, my mechanic say the cause why my car shaking is the partially collapse of the engine mount but why when is cold i feel this vibration everywhere inside the cabin and most of the time when is not in movement?? Thank you 😊
OKay when i am sitting at a light car has vibration...idle is set good... if i put in park or neutral it stops? is this a bad motor mount? its a 2005 nissan altima...its not real bad,but is annoying...thanks

i have the thud on the gear shifter symptom but mines actually does that when the engine is warm so i dont know if the mounts could be a problem

What about metal banging/thudding when hitting potholes? I have an issue atm that 3 mechanics couldn’t find, I’ve noticed my gearbox mount has too much movement and wondering if this could be causing the banging over bumps/potholes
Similar problem here. I also notice it when suddenly lifting my foot off the gas pedal (manual trans. here) In the case I mentioned its not just a one-time thud, its a rattling kind of noise, and definitely a heavy metal to metal one.
My 2009 toyota camry 2.4 vibrates when we apply brake, but does not do it all the time would like to know before I order from you guys.
Hello, thanks so much for the video. I wonder where you are located. I am in northen California. I have a Chevy Cavalier 2002 that has exactly that problem since 2 weeks ago, broken engine mount. Jerking noise when changing into gear and reverse, and vibrations and noises when going up hill. My mechanic did a quick fix, moving heater hose out of the way, and placing some rubber while he's trying to find the part. He said it'll cost me over 400-500$, but after seeing your video, it seems such an excessive amount, so I wonder if by any chance you are located in this area and could help me, and if not, maybe you know some reliable mechanic that could. My car vibrates a lot at idle. Gets worse when I turn the wheel or turn on AC. My local mechanic says 3 out of the 4 mounts are broken. Fixing them should solve this issue?

Once in a blue morning when slowing down, i feel a thud, like if i hit a bump. i tried to determine where the hell its coming from, but have not yet figured it out. it doesnt happen often but it happens and when it does its concerning. Any idea?
Im having the same problem with an 06 CRV. I am worrying that it could be a CV shaft going bad. However, if it was that it would be more than a random thud.
My front engine mount was leaking a little a couple months ago but now it looks dry, 2005 Honda Accord 4 cly
Bad mounts are not bad in of themselves. They feel like you’re tryna gear when you’re revving. Problem is with excessive shaking, all the auxiliary parts to the engine deteriorate and might out right break.
Mine only jerks when put in drive not in reverse also only happens when car is hot . When is cold it shifts smooth. Transmission fluid is good. What could it be?
OK so I was backing out of my drive way and I put it in reverse well when I pressed the gas to go it starting sputtering and shaking horribly and wouldn't go it kinda felt like the tires stuck up under the car weird I know but I was told my motor mount broke and fail on the cv axle so I'm wondering if it is the mount or not can anyone tell me what I might be dealing with I had to have it towed 😢
Different car, but I have a 01 Pontiac Grand Prix SE.
I had a real bad vibration under acceleration.
My front mount was real bad. I replaced the front mount, got rid of 95 % of my vibration under acceleration.
I still have a slight vibration under acceleration.
Should I flip my dog bone bushings, or replace the transmission mount, or both?
But some people say flipping the dog bone mount bushings may add slight vibration.
I don't want any vibration.

I dont have bad engine mounts but a transmission mount im not sure if driving with this can harm the transmission
I think I have an oil leak AND a bad engine mount. Did one cause the other?
On my friend’s 2007 Sentra I installed a set of your mounts, they were destroyed after less than a year,,,it really sucks, I don’t even want to try any kind of warranty ☹️☹️🥴
Would bad motor mounts cause rotors to warp? I have had to replace my rotors 3 times in 1.5 years. I drive very slowly and dont jam on the breaks. The car axels and ball joints are solid. cant find anything wrong in the front end. Mechanics could not find the problem. I am well versed with working on cars. Have works on every car I have owned and never had a problem with rotors warping after replacement. Car also skips when I cut the wheel sharply. almost like the front end is swaying when the wheel is cut.

when I accelerate I hear a cracking sound and when I release the clutch. it shifts gears and drives perfectly and driver side

Will a bad motor mount or trans mount make vibration noises when put into drive or reverse but stops once u start moving. U can here the noise even outside and inside the car

HELLO!!! I am desperate to find light for my case. I have a 2000 ford expedition Eddie Bauer with the 5.4 Triton V8 Engine. When I take curves to the left, and when the body of the vehicle leans to the right, I can hear and feel under my feet, specially in the front passenger side of the vehicle a tapping sound, like if something is knocking below the floor upwards, What can it be?? I have changed suspension parts like struts, shocks, upper and lower control arms, ball joints, front sway bar bushings and nothing has fixed the knocking sound. I am very worried. What can it be??? Thank You. Hope you can help me.

Cllicking and tapping while turning is a cv axel
Sounds like a bad cv axle joint, usually the outer one goes bad. If it happens turning right its the left (drivers side) axle that is bad.
So can cause the whole vehicle to shake when accelerating or at a red light
Yup. And can cause you to drift on one side of the lane you’re driving in...

The only time I have a huge thud is when I'm parked uphill and I'm putting it into reverse. I mean it startled me everytime and as loud as can
When on a hill you should apply your parking brake first then place the car in Park to keep the strain off the transmission. When pulling out put the car in gear then release the parking brake. I'm sure there is a video somewhere to explain it better

My mechanic changed the mounts in my Honda Civic 2012 but still it makes a bit of vibration. Any suggestions?
Which mounts though? If he just changed the engine mounts, tell them to check out the gearbox/transmission mounts.
