A Step-by-Step Guide to Making Custom Cat Shelves - for Home or Catio 🐈

- Take a look at how to make these simple cat shelves. I'll show you step by step as to how I made this favorite destination within one of our Catios. Adding shelves adds more real-estate inside the catio or your home space. Cats love to be perched on a high location to monitor the world around them. This is an Easy way to add a Cat friendly hid-a-way or perch to any space either home or Catio, let me know if you have enjoyed or tried this project.
* Keep in mind, the top of the bracket was cut 8 inches long because the back shelf was notched to fit around the 4x4 posts. If installed on a flat surface such as a wall, the top of the bracket would have been 4 inches longer. We hope that this does not confuse anyone when making this project.

2x4 treated wood
One 6'x6" fence board
scrap wood for perch
dried cedar log
counter sink drill bit
star bit wood screws

compound miter saw
jig saw

This design really makes me think about all the possibilities I have a 20 yo cat who loves to be outside, since she can’t jump or climb and isn’t a fast runner anymore, I have been thinking of ways to open up to the outside so that she can sun herself without supervision. Great video! Thanks!

I'm in the process of building a cat oasis in my yard. So far, I've got 3 big-ish catios, 4 window box catios (almost done enclosing them), and I made tunnels to connect all the catios. I also made 2 big catio sitting boxes to place up high as if they are in trees, with the tunnels up 8 feet. I think they'll love it. Thus far, 3 catios are in use, with the others being completed soon, although I think it'll always be a work in progress.

Thank you! This was helpful, I have access to wood scraps and a miter saw. You very much made this look like a project I could manage on my own. I think buying all new items gets too pricey, but the cedar branch and log ideas are perfect! What kind of rope did you use to wrap the log for the scratching post?

I am not handy and I don't have help I have 10 cats that are inside the house that need a place to be able to go outside.

I hadn't planned to have cats because I have two dogs . They just showed up at the beginning of the covid epidemic and were born on my porch so now we're just one very big happy family I am going to find a way to make an outside area.
