For future reference, taller or longer is for going faster. Think over-drive. You have to go *over* tall things. Examples being 2:1, 1:1, 0.73:1
Short/low gears are for massive torque. Like 6.75:1, 5:1.
Input rotaion : output rotation.

So that flying bit... I actually discovered that all the way back in 2010 in RoR... fun to see it still works in Beam. Basically it works off of how the wheel physics calculates torque application. If you have the torque node directly above the wheel, things... well... they get a bit weird. If you time your shifts right from forward to reverse to forward and keep doing it while it flips through the air, you can actually make the vehicle fly. I actually made a thread on that on the RoR forums but I am sure it doesn't exist anymore.

Got it to 276km/h by taking the middle rear wheels off, using the CJD CVT transmission and an RK engine w turbo. Anything past that and it just started flying away

I think it's fascinating how little people understand how to go fast. You mentioned power as the thing people would think it lacks, but it's easy to go 100 mph on 40 hp if you have the right aero. Aero is most important, lightness is 2nd, wheels are 3rd. In this case, it's so optimized for speed that you have all these variables to play with, but it's weird to me that anyone would think power is the issue.

For future reference: Larger wheels do improve the gear ratio for speed, but they add a lot of weight, so the weight gain is worse than the gear ratio reduction. (Edit: I used lower/higher incorrectly.)
In real life, if you're trying to increase efficiency at high speeds, larger wheels can do this, because they effectively increase the gear ratio, which reduces engine speed, and the extra inertia helps balance out fluctuations, so the engine can run at a more consistent speed. However, the weight disadvantage is still there, and depending on fender design, the aero can change enough to completely eliminate the advantage. Also, larger wheels usually have more rolling resistance, which also decreases efficiency. (A higher gear ratio is better than larger wheels in most cases.)
(Also, efficiency and speed are very related. I drive a CVT sedan with 110 hp but it can go 120 mph without too much effort. If it was less efficient (like having an automatic or manual transmission), it wouldn't be able to get there as easily.)
I hate CVT because of Nissan and how inefficient they are at being a functioning transmission.

Bigger wheels usually mean slower, usually due to weight and friction because thereâs a larger surface area. Plus IRL you need numerically higher gears in order to ruse bigger wheels
Actually faster, if you have enough power to overcome the extra weight and friction. A larger wheel covers a larger distance on 1 rotation.
Small wheel: 10 cm diameter
31.4 cm circunference
Big wheel: 1 m diameter
3.14 m circunference
Lets say that the engine is at 1000 RPM, the gear ratio is 1:1, so engine RPM is the same as wheel RPM.
Small wheel = 314 meters per minute ( around 6 m/s)
Big wheel = 3140 meters per minute (around 60 m/s).

The main reason that the bigger tires mean a slower speed is because the bigger tires have more of a surface area to be run on as we're smaller tires have less surface area to run on which means a quicker rotation of small wheels compared to big wheels for example cars for example drag cars you can notice they will sometimes have small wheels as where things like rock crawlers have bigger Wheels in go slower this is so that they can get more torque in and more capability I just wanted to say this to make sure that you know and it just felt right to say have a good day
No, this is incorrect. Bigger wheels actually mean a faster speed in theory, because the edge of the wheel moves a longer distance with less degrees of rotation. You can see this in old steam trains that have massive wheels to maximize speed. The reason rock crawlers have larger wheels is because the larger radius makes it easier for the wheels to roll over small rocks. The reason it didn't work in practice is because it acts as a higher gear ratio which meant the small engine was not powerful enough to keep up, and the bigger wheels also created more drag.
The thing you are saying about drag racers is wrong too, because the wheels that are powered are the large ones and not the small ones.
But if you have enough power and paitence it means a higher top speed.
