Since this is THE original art, probably more towards what posty paid for the 1/1 ring. Again an opinion. But this is a 1/1 & is from an artist whom should have never been banned from mtg in the first place. She technically didn't do anything wrong. That is why it went "low" good bargain to whomsoever bought it indeed! It's absolutely in line with most infamous but famous art 🎨 like a Dali or Chagall.
DC- curious about something. Those 90's Armada MTG comics... have you ever come across OG art from them? Some incredibly beautiful frames by many of the heavy hitter OG MTG artists. There must be so many pieces of art from these floating around. Have you come across them? Is there a market for them? How do the prices compare to card art? Thanks amigo!

Jokes aside, this is a major red flag milestone on the path to the Magic bubble popping harder than 90's sports cards.
The reason this is a huge problem is because collectors didn't need another printing of the Power 9. You know who needed a reprint of the Power 9 and dual lands? Players who have never been able to own those cards because they've always been too expensive. Especially for dual lands, now that we're in an era where WotC has made basic lands obsolete in every format, even including Pauper.
And what an insult that these packs are randomzied. You mean you're going pay $1000 for one of these boxes and you're not even getting a whole set!?!? WotC is slapping both players and collectors in the face with this one, not to mention it's casus belli on the Reserved List.
I would guess that WotC is bleeding money HARD, and this is year 3 of them trying to cover it up.
I think next year we start to see the actual popping of the Magic bubble. Right now it's just being squeezed and they're getting the needle in position.

25% is crazy. The seller is to blame for leaving plenty of money on the table. People are less willing to pay you because they factor in the 25%, and also less willing because it feels so bad that 25% of the money get derailed.
5% buyers premium and 10% kickback to the artist Therese Nielsen, ok so now its 15% instead of 25%, not a gigantic difference, but bidding and buying would feel much better.
yeah kickbacks to artist are not a thing for auctions, ever. I guess you could promote that, but all and all, there are no royalities of any kind.
@@vintagemagic In the fine art world, such mechanisms do exist and are in use. For many high-value contemporary artworks, agreements are in place that ensure that every re-sale at a later, higher price does trigger a kickback to the original artist, expressed in percentage of sale price. It does happen and is to be considered, it is fair.
I think it was a David Hockney that was first sold a long time ago for 18000. It was re-sold, changed hands a few times, and in 2019 it auctioned for 90 million USD.
He got a cut. He got a percentage. It is only fair, he painted it.
25% buyers premium is very offensive. That sales do not trigger a kickback to the artist is understandable, but somewhat offensive, considering that other agreements do exist and are considered fair and just in the fine art world. It must feel bad, having done and sold an artwork for a few hundred dollars and now seeing it moving for 6 to 7 digits and you are merely a bystander.
The AH got 70k for this? What a scam. They are as bad as lawyers.
It bodes well for ABU and iconic Arabian, Antiquities, Legends and The Dark pieces out there.

Severely under priced. Best counter spell ever created so far in the game, original artwork + one of the best artworks in MTG in general. Controversial and iconic artist (I'm not on the haters/disregarding bandwagon). You've summed it all up. Hope the buyer will enjoy this piece of history like many of us would in the coming years! Let's see it back on the market in a few decades for at least triple this amount! May you and the fam have a warm cozy christmas Daniel! Stay healthy!
