Maybe it's just me, but aesthetically I think BGS and PCG are miles ahead of those dated-looking PSA labels. The lack of sub-grades is also an issue. However, BGS really needs to work on their consistency and their antiquated submission system. It seems like PCG could pick up a lot of grading volume in the coming years, as long as they continue to innovate.
My opinion labels are the least important. PCG won't be around long term - so investing as a vendor or collector will result in losing money.
Lower / promotional pricing for specific sets is a good idea. Also, agree with you that the best way for PSA to gain TCG marketshare is lower their pricing and get more graded slabs out there in the marketplace.
Good info my man. If you had to pick one service at this time which one would you go with? As a buyer I think BGS gives the grades that most accurately reflect the cards condition. Like you, I've seen so many cards in CGC slabs that were not deserving of it's grade. Which defeats the white purpose of grading the card in the first place
There are a lot more grading companies today than there were 15 years ago, so this might be good timing for a few acquisitions and mergers. PSA and BGS need an international location to make it easier for International collectors to submit cards overseas.
i think PSA will have one in europe soon. They have that in Japan already. BGS doesn't have the market yet. I think they better grow and improve or their business will decline a lot
The recent decline in BGS is very concerning. I heard from sports card vendors, if the decline continue their ability to even stay in business is questionable.
PSA case itself is worst on markets in many parameters. Both PSA and BGS are inconsistent but it seems PSA10 itself has value (not the card itself necessarily) so people are buying for company which privilege BGS doesn't have. It's interesting you also have these thoughts that grading will be diminished in the future.
PSA case has improved imo over the years, the old ones suck. Reality is both companies have sucked, but PSA has the brand, resources and tech to make things in the right direction.
@@vintagemagicI agree BGS seems not to be innovative at all. PCG has been probably the most innovative. Btw, also interesting to see will BGS give black labels now easier in mtg too. Kinda making value from nothingness when they award those. I'm pretty sure they have started to use black label much more often in Pokemon. CGC is on same boat: everything is 10.
PSA usually wants about 10% fee from card's value because they can.
Michael Rubin is going to inadvertently have a big impact on MTG. I think his impact on turning sports cards into fine art will be so successful that there will be spillover to TCGs. The guy is a stud and a master marketer, and cards seem to be a big focus of his now.

The up charge on PSA is 100% based on getting the card back to you and the insurance. If you're willing to go pick it up yourself you can skip the up charge
sure, but people can't fly to disneyland all the time.

CGC buying JSA was a bigger deal to me
they needed an authentication brand, jsa was the only one really.
beckett is next to go... pretty much useless these days outside of black labels. 9.5s are worth like a quarter of psa 10.
Cgc seems to give way to many 10s I personally don’t trust those cards.
