Why there are NO ODST's in Halo Infinite

- Hi everyone!
Today i wanted to do my best at answering the question "where are the ODST's in Halo Infinite?" Its something that i started to wonder about during my third playthrough of the campaign and i have to say its definitely something that i do want to see. 343 has not given us anything official and i go through the references we do see in the game but i also give a cool theory of what could explain why they are mostly missing in action.

In the audio logs we know there were some ODSTs on the ring because a marine Corporal told a ODST commander that the luxury of a full Spartan team was no longer available so he needed the helljumpers for a operation against the banished and in the beginning when chief is looking for survivors in space we see the ODST logo later turning into deceased
I think in helljumper(and what I’m calling 65th) hell eagle style they all decide to go KIA/MIA or left there gear behind so that they could be more mobile or they just died in space with only a few squads making it down
Also in the new halo book it is told that the odst in the ring are giving a better fight that spartans

And in the book the Rubicon protocol there is a odst team called gravediggers that are causing a lot of problems for the banished
There is one direct reference to ODST's in the campaign. In the beginning when Master Chief sees all the status of all the nearby units, among the KIA tags is an ODST unit.
Finally someone else noticed those too
In a real Halo universe, there can't be only spartans. Spartans cost too much to be the only special operation force and must be kept for very special missions only. ODST are needed to be a shock light infantry and be able to deploy in a very short time. ODST will still accomplish a large panel of missions when Spartans will focus on high-profile military operations.
I imagine it takes a lot of inspiration from current military structure. I'll use the US as it's pretty common knowledge. For example, you have the US Marines. Not elite in any sense of the word, but still reliable as front line infantry.. Next you have the Navy Seals (equivalent of ODSTs). Capable of special operations and generally smarter and fitter than most marines. Finally we have DEVGRU (your Spartans). The cream of the crop of the US Navy. Kitted out with the best gear, trained to be the best they can be with no expense spared.

@@Grogritark 1: Marines are a specialized amphibious force, therefore elite.
2: ODSTs are inspired by USMC FORCE RECON.
3: SEALS are better equipped and higher training, for NAVAL SPECIAL OPERATIONS, doesn't mean they are better then the Marines. They are Special Forces not conventional infantry
4: DEVGU or SEAL TEAM 6 is it's own branch of the SEALS.
5: Marines in Halo would be the same as Marines now, ODSTs are Recon and Spartans wouldn't have a equal seeing as how super soldiers don't exist. the SEAL and Spartan comparison is blow outta portion.
@@Grogritark LOL what, ODSTs are based on Force Recon. Seals, Delta, SAS, etc. do not have an equal in Halo (so far).
At least in Rubicon Protocol it’s confirmed that there are ODSTs still on Zeta Halo, such as an ODST squad known as the Gravediggers, running guerrilla ops against the banished well after the fall of the Reverie.
Actually there a target that the new Cortana. She Mentioned that this target kill a groups of ODST. Target name is ARTHOC # 11. He killed three full squads. This is a big find if you need.
I think it’s because 343 is bad at ODST helmets, but it also might be because almost all of them became Spartans.

In infinite during the opening cutscene you can see amongst the KIA symbols for marines their are odst signs too, their all dead
There’s also a bot in the Bot Bootcamp called “Stone” that has full ODST armor

My theory is that they are there on zeta halo but they are sticking to themselves like they usually do and are working on high value targets and recon of enemy camps

Im sitll surprised 343 didint feature them in last 3 games. Despite what people think not every odst became a spartan and the odst's are still very much around. So why they dont do anything with the odsts in the game is appauling. These guys been around the unsc for long time, of course they still be used by the unsc.
At the start of the campaign when master chief is looking for a unsc signal, it shows all the deceased unsc units. And it showed deceased odst units. That's about it.
Main reason they aren't in Infinite is because: They didn't have enough time to finish adding everything they wanted cause Bonnie wanted to release the game early to beat Call Of Duty and Battlefield, game actually needed two more years.
Fun fact: Halo Infinite was going to have animal life, every Halo vehicle and weapon from every Halo game. Banished Marines, ODST and Banished Spartans. The Flood, Prometheans, and for allies: Marines, ODST, Swords Of Sanghelios Grunts, Jackals, Elites and Hunters. We are also supposed to get enemy counter attacks on our FOB's, and two DLC missions: One on rescuing Loke from The Banished and one meeting The Spirit Of Fire Crew, we were even supposed to get swamps, snowy areas, desert areas and a flyable Pelican and playable Elites and Brutes for MP, and we were supposed to get Firefight and assassinations. Basically, Halo Infinite was going to be a love letter to the Halo Community and give us everything we wanted
I hope at some point we will get a season reintroducing the odsts possibly there being survivors or they reintroduce the odst program and adding a armor core that is all based around odsts. Don’t think they’ll ever do this but I think it would be cool
ODSTs should be more around more in mission for sure they work good with Spartans a heck of a lot more than normal Marines lol.
What I was really hoping with Halo Infinite going open world is that the world would update according to a new multiplayer season's story. So many areas on the map are unused, which is fine in some cases but I can't help to wonder what was originally planned for those areas.
actually im pretty sure thats exactly what they're going to do. instead of releasing new games with a number going up from 6 to 7 to 8, they're just gonna keep it all under the the one title of halo infinite and expand the map as "DLCs" which are actually just new games are added.
I found ODSTs in the campaign as one of those distress beacons

I hope, if we can’t get it in game, then at least give us another Alpha-Nine book. They were on the Infinity when it was attacked so hopefully they all made it down to Zeta. They’re not ODSTs anymore, I know, but they would still have an interesting story. Especially if it delved into what happened to Lasky & Locke
One of the cutscenes shows Master Chief looking at a holo map that shows a list of all Infinities UNSC units and shows the logo of the ODST's in numerous locations.
I hope they make a halo infinite spartan Ops, and a Halo ODST game that takes place on zeta halo.

343 literally doesn’t even know what ODST stands for so it’s not too suprising
Remember what the ODST's do, the one thing they do above all other military units. "Feet First into Hell" We often think that is our spartans but in reality the first to see combat was Prob the ODST's except the few select that prob would've escorted Captain Laskey down to the Halo Rings which I might add might still be alive. If marines can survive this shit so can Lasky and ODST's and some of our favorite Spartans. I hope I get to see Spartan Thorn again.
Ik its not the game, but in the last novel Rubicon there's ODST that made it to the ring after infinity was hit.
They are still around. But most of the games wrap around Spartans 2's and 4's. They are doing odd jobs for the UNSC. But when you have Spartans around, they don't really need the ODST's around. Some went to Spartan 4 programs. Others are doing odd jobs and tactical assassinations.
The real answer is because the game isn't finished. If you ever find yourself wondering, "why isn't x in halo infinite?" it's because the game is unfinished. They release an unfinished game.
If they had given us ODSTs as the final unit we get at FOBs that wouldve been awesome. Another idea wouldve had to change the story but if we eventually had a capital ship above us like a frigate that shows we were helping take back the ring. Then we would be able to call down ODSTs in drop pods to back us up in the middle of a mission.
@10:17 something along the lines of Mass Effect 3's build up of forces near the end of that game but you can actually use them in the mission. I do like this idea a lot.
Yes there is mention of them when chief is looking for any survivors, their is a couple ODST logos that show up but they say KIA
There are NO ODST's in Halo Infinite because 343i doesnt want them to take away from the "Spartan Story"
In Halo 4 and 5 it's pretty clear to me that ODSTs were replaced by Spartan IVs to push the idea that "anyone can be a Spartan" which was itself an attempt to incentivize monetized cosmetics. It really strips the word "Spartan" of its meaning in the process, because all the horrific things that had to be done to produce a Spartan are swept away. Instead of being a question to the audience about whether the ends justify the means they're basically treated like superheroes, but I'm going to cut that off before I start ranting about it.
But the reason in Halo Infinite is because 343 overcorrects to criticism in all the wrong ways. Halo 5 was criticizes because Master Chief wasn't in it, so Halo Infinite is all about the Master Chief, no one else matters. In fact, I don't think Master Chief interacts with any major friendly characters throughout the entire game. No Captain Lasky, no commanding officers, no badass Sergeant Majors who know what the ladies like, no former enemies who you have a tense alliance with, nobody but some hobo pilot and a clone of an AI. The game is devoid of characters except for Master Chief.
They should add a spartan ops type mode were you play as ODSTs on missions against the banished
In infinite by the time chief comes back most marines are dead, and ODST’s would’ve been in way more fights than the marines with a fraction of the marines numbers, so most would be scattered or dead

My theory is the fricked off & chose to exit in small groups as guerrilla fighters, rather than joining the UNSC presence on the ring as they’re more fit for that kinda work
Rubicon protocol has them but the issue was probably just a resource thing for development

You would think that only veteraned ODSTs would be chosen or offered to be a Spartan IV?
Like to be a Spartan you must be an ODST first, ODSTs already take difficult missions and are hard headed enough to do pull off the craziest stunts. Because in the books( yes game lore comes first but hear me out) all of alpha nine was offered a spot in the SPartan IV training
Even Dutch and his wife Gretchen(who was honorably discharged when she stepped on a mine) two ex ODSTs who were living civilian life(even tho we know Dutch and his wifes relationship was strained from civilian life)
Halo Wars 2 features ODST's in the promotional material. Since that games to takes place just before Halo Infinite.
Right back to Halo Wars 2 so I can crush some Banished with my ODST boys
343 has clearly demonstrated that they aren't interested in showcasing ODST's because they wan't to focus on the Chief and the Spartan IV's. By adding the ODSTs, they would be taking away from them. Plus, as hated as the IV's are, it would look worse if they had the ODSTs for comparison, as they are fan favorites.

Yea I was expecting some ODST missions, or rescues like in the stories.

There are no ODSTs because 343 couldn’t manage to add them in. That’s it. There’s no story reasons why they’re not there. It’s just 343 is an incompetent studio

halo infinite could've easily just made a unit like the marines and named it something basic like "Special Forces" and its an ODST model both male/female with special dialouge like dark humor, offensive humor, and toughness

Thank you! And your right. We were supposed to get every Halo weapon, vehicle, enemy type and allies. Like Banished Humans, The Flood, Prometheans, Banished ODST and Spartans, ally ODSTs, Swords Of Sanghelios Allies, Spartan 4 allies. Two DLC's, one with Loke and The Spirit Of Fire
its because most of the odst turned into spartan fours and the ones that didnt they are under the numbers close to the thousands at most 1500

I slowly hate SIVs more and more. All they are is to explain MP spartans and try and replace our beloved ODSTs. Look at H5s Warzone even. You take the droppods that were onxe ODSTs. I know Cheif did to in H2, but he mostly used pelican. They are trying to take everything we loved about ODSTs and put them on the SIVs
Ngl I think 343 just forgot about them. Or out right wanted to scrub them from their new re-imagining (because they(the execs) do not like halo). They do not care about the original content. All that's left of their memory are the artists that truly love halo (yet have little to no say in what can actually go in the game)
Becuase the game had 2/3 of its content removed?...because development was roguth as hell lol. ODST's weren't in it becuase 343i struggled to deliver. They would have been in otherwise if they had their shit together.

I like this theory, but the real reason that ODSTs aren't present in Infinite was due to Infinite's shaky development. At one point, Marines and allied AI in general were not even considered for the game because one of the lead writers thought they were useless in the grand scheme of things. So allied AI was kind of a last-minute thing, and unfortunately, only marines could be added in.
I feel like Infinite is missing so much stuff. Weapons like the plasma rifle and brute spiker are not there. The Swords of Sanghelious aren’t involved, I’m a bit disappointed the Prometheans aren’t there and where is the Spirit of Fire?
Tbh the older weapons won't fit well into the sandbox as we already have a lot of automatic weapons
And also i think 343 is trying to keep the spirit of fire plot in halo wars as its own separate thing and not mixing it in with the rest of the modern lore

343 hates the ODST. Honestly they have no concept of them, they didn’t even understand what halo was when they made halo 4 and halo 5.
Bungie was telling us the grand story of the war between the humans and covenant, you just happened to be playing it through the master chiefs eyes. In the bungie trailers, believe, rearm, we are odst, you didn’t see the chief until the end, you saw it from the perspective of humanity, from the marine in the dirt, you just happened to be the chief but the story was not about you, it was not a spartan story it was human story. 343 doesn’t understand this. They made halo 4 a spartan story, halo 5 was a (barely) master chief story. The story that 343 sells is about you the master chief or you the throw away spartan 4. Spartan 4s are not special. ODST where special, and Spartans where significant. 343s timeline as I’m calling it now after that paramount nonsense, is not the halo we where being told about.
the reason we dont see ODST is because the community made fun of the ODST helmets made by 343 in 4 and 5. so their feelings got hurt and they wont put them in game now.

There is odst helmet, chest plate, and shoulder plates in the customization area for the spartans.
Wasn't it only as a later reward for the first season pass? I think it was like tier 70

They were in halo 4. I can see they dropping odst, because marines and odst, are more for policing domestic cases. They don't have the armor to handle brutes.
343 hates Humanity that’s why Marines and ODST’s make almost no appearance in any of their dogshit games. They also hate Elites strangely enough but admire Brutes. I think they just despise anything to do with orderliness and aesthetics
No I'm going off of what I've seen so far I would believe throwing a theory that they discontinued the ODST project due to newer generation Spartans being built on their armor enhancements instead of body augmentation allowed the UNSC to make the choice to discontinue ODSTs and just make them Spartans since the armor made them capable of being Spartans so at that point there was no need for ODSTs if they could just be Spartans instead
i think odst's still exist. spartans are still very expensive. spartan iv mnolnir being cheaper than gen1 but more expensive than spi armor.
only the best of the best of the odst's/marines get requested to become spartan iv.
the other spartan iv candidates are from voluntary gene test potential selection to qualify (probably cat3 or close) with some being requested for being above cat3/ at cat2.
odst's still exist at large, but the top percent of odst's now have a chance to be spartans.
Because becoming a Spartan is less of a luxury now. ODST’s are just obsolete against the Banished. Might as well upgrade.
The odst graffiti in streets is probably because streets is in new mombasa and h3:odst takes place in new Mombasa
