  • In this episode of the BMW F800GS service videos, I remove the spark plugs, take off the valve cover and measure the valve clearances. However, there's a surprise lurking in there which shows that you never can be sure of what's waiting for you when you start a service.

    I know the music is loud in this one, apologies for that. I've learnt a lot since and lowered the volume quite a lot in the later videos. I hope you're not too deaf from this video to watch more of my videos.

    Thanks Jocke. Was just doing the valve clearances and found you had actually gone to the effort of making a video for people! Thanks very much for that, although it isnt a difficult job it's great to check what you think needs doing on a video rather than as you go! I dont really wish upon you clearances that need adjusting, but when/if you do a video of changing a shim would top it off (although it's only a couple of extra bolts and a bit of maths extra!). Thanks again, appreciate your time and effort for the benefit of others :-)

      Hi, thanks for the kind words. Glad the video was of use. When it comes to replacing shims, I'll make sure I film it and post it here on CZcams. And hopefully my videos will have better quality than this one in the future. Thanks again!

    Love the material. Any chance you could do something on changing out the water pump? Mine is starting to weep and it looks like the whole engine must come out. Not keen on doing this exercise mate. Keep it up, cheers

    • @JockeSelin

      Thanks Joe! 😎👍🏻
      I'll stick the water pump on the list of wanted videos. Sadly for you, both of our water pumps seem fine and there's no need to change them, so don't hold your breath for a video about it. I tend to make the videos when there's something that we need to fix, so if you want, you can wish for a water pump breakdown for us! 🤣 (Please don't! 🤣)
      Having had a quick look on the Interwebs, I don't see why the engine would need to come out. Looks to me, like the cover needs to come off and the rest can be accessed from there, probably very fiddly, but doable? I've not checked the Haynes manual - which I recommend you get regardless - but it might explain why the engine might have to come out. Hope you get it fixed!

      I was just chatting to the guys on the GS forum and it looks like a fiddly task though.At least the motor doesn't have to come out.Thanks for the prompt reply . Keep up the good work and keep safe.

    How often check spark plug and valve ?

    • @JockeSelin
      @JockeSelin  Před 4 lety

      On our bikes (2009) the service manual says spark plugs at 24,000 miles and check valve clearances at 12,000 miles. However please do check your service book as this is dependent on the bike and year model.

    Bro, how much the battery charger

    • @JockeSelin
      @JockeSelin  Před 2 lety

      I can't remember, as it's between 10 and 15 years old. It could have been about 80GBP at the time. For a motorcycle I recommend the CTEK XS0.8 charger amzn.to/3ApvDrQ (affiliate link). This one you can leave connected if you want to, and it will also recondition your battery if it has gone flat.

    • @JockeSelin
      @JockeSelin  Před 6 lety

      This bike was in quite a mess when I started working on it. All episodes E1 through to E10 are done on this particular bike. czcams.com/play/PL8jQwCTD3HjowIG6IL-9GXIq23IhEg43S.html The cam chain was replaced in E8. Valve clearances were within tolerances.

    hi jocke..I have seen some of your videos, great info about the F800 GS....I just got a used f800 GS 2012....60k miles on the engine. here is my question...I noted a water swept between the cylinder and the top end.. I am thinking of removed the topend and replace the gasket...do you know the torque specs for the cylinder head bolts ??...and any other info that I may need thanks a lot for your time !!!

      @JockeSelin  Před 16 dny

      @@alexarsot Hi Alex! Thanks for the kind words. I would highly recommend that you get the Haynes Manual for the F800GS. It’s a pretty decent manual (some of them can be a bit useless, but this one is good). Alternatively, you can get the BMW Workshop Manual, but I don’t know of a legit way of acquiring that one, so you might have to figure that one out by yourself. 😉
      I do think the Haynes Manual is a great investment if you want to do your own servicing. Sorry I can’t be of much more help! Good luck and thanks again!

    @ Jocke Selin, your videos are great , but just some advise for a drastic improvement , could you please consider not adding that annoying distracting background music to your videos . It’s twice as loud as your voice and to watch your video it means I painfully have to constantly turn down the music (as it’s so rediculously loud compared to your voice ) , meaning that each time you speak I again must turn the vocal up ,.., This again is always followed by getting my ears blasted by the distracting music again as I alarmingly try to lower the volume again ..,
    Only again to be forced to crank it up the volume yet again to hear you speak .., it’s so painfully annoying to repeatedly keep doing so.
