Which would probably explain the origin "of pure evil" more and could have Leeloo and Dallas deal with being universal celebrities and the impact that has on their psyche. Granted all that is speculation. I understand the reason being for why Besson dropped the idea of the sequels was because of how long and arduous the special effects process was to work with at the time; versus projects like The Transporter and Taken that aren't green screen effects heavy.
Same here. I LOVE that move, because it is different and doesn't feel like a "classical" adventure movie, but still is a amazingly awesome (and funny) adventure movie with a different take on ... well everything. (Without doing things just for the sake of being different, but actually good) Jovovich and Willis are great like everyone else in that movie. Heck i'm probably the only one who loves that movie (much) more than the original Star Wars trilogy. I would have LOVED to see a trilogy and simply more from that fascinating universe.

The funny part is that the way the antagonist and protagonist never met each other is actually one of the most daring and interesting things about how this story was presented. Zorg's own evil plotting was really the thing that destroyed him in the end; While Dallas' humble wish for a quiet life and his desire to protect Lilu were ultimately what lead to all of Zorg and "Mr. Shadow"' having all their plots come to nothing. I'm not so sure this movie would have been as good if Zorg and Dallas had a big fight scene. Zorg wasn't really a soldier, and Dallas wasn't really a particularly vengeful type. They both had totally different agendas and no absurd plot convenience tools were used to force them into the same space even though their paths were completely intertwined. I doubt this would work in a lot of movies, but somehow it worked with the silly nature of this film.

Mr. Dallas did a lot of gunplay and military style heroics, but at the end of the day he was the trigger to leeloo's gun. Neither can do much without the other (as far as saving the day) , and I think that was a major plot point. They needed eachother, so they both could help eachother save the world, because neither could do it on their own. Zorg was not the main villain, so much as the doer for the main evil overlord being. @Brique Zallivam Actually it is YOU who has no right whatsoever to judge other peoples lives (without knowing a sh.t about them) yet you are "brave" enough to teach others how to behave... Go figure ROFL
You do not have the Stones!! My brother and I still quote a lot from this movie. You brought me an empty case!! ZERO STONES, ZERO CRATES!!!! We've risked our lives!!! Are we green? Super green!
OMG my brother and I used to yell Ruuuuhhhbbbyyy whenever we would leave the room from the scene where Ruby was being separated from his entourage and they were upset yelling Ruby's name all whinny and scared.
@Brique Zallivam ikr? It was an interesting time, to see how things are done behind the scenes and irl Milla Jovavich is a nice person to talk to if only briefly. And it is also a classic film, Bruce Willis is a lot taller in person than his films make him out to be.
@@pauldavies1973 Interesting that Bruce Willis was a lot taller in person that he looks on screen. I work as an extra on TV shows & movies. Most of the big actors that I've seen are shorter and skinnier then they look on the TV!
I saw this movie in the theater when I was a teenager. As far as I can remember I think I wanted to see another movie but my friends convinced me to see The 5th Element. Not knowing anything about it other than them saying the preview looked awesome I went and saw it reluctantly. And holy crap was I glad I did! My young mind was absolutely blown away. I had never seen anything like it. Anyways I have seen it several times since then and it still holds up. It's one of those movies that constantly breaks your expectations.
The fifth element what can I say A CLASSIC FILM 1 of the best sci fi ever made. Its absolutely ageless 22 years old and can still hold it's own against films now.
Still probably my most favourite movie. I find it amazing that they wrote the opera part to be impossible to sing yet if you look over CZcams, you can find several people absolutely nailing it in real life.
Here's another fact the Diva's name - Plava Laguna translates to Blue Lagoon in Serbian (Jovovic is Serbian/Ukranian). Jovovic played in Return to Blue Lagoon prior to this movie.
Hey Minty you forgot one thing Besson's was a huge fan of that French comic book from Belgium called Valerian and Laureline where he got his designs from the comic for The Fifth Element.
Let's not forget he made the film version of that, too! He is also planning to do a sequel despite how upset he is with STX's handling of the film's marketing.
Many other similarities, seems he just regurgitated a suppressed recollection of "Heavy Metal" the movie... ...when I was almost eleven, I thought I wrote "Valerie" by Stevie Winwood... then I heard it (again).
Casted perfectly, this stylish film combines beautiful futuristic concepts including life, architecture, music, fashion and functional art. The action, humor, romance and a constant change of scenery aesthetic makes this film literally delicious. Its one of the most perfect films ever made
Before I even watch this I want you to know I love this movie! I firmly believe that it should win a lifetime achievement award for editing! Amongst other things ofc, lol... And judging by your previous work you'll do it justice... Now, on to the show...
In the novel Zorg survives (basically he force fields up and is blown to a planet when the cruise ship explodes) which makes sense if Besson envisioned a trilogy
It's a one-off, stand alone cult classic! 👍🏾...Can't make a part 2 or a remake!....☝🏾But! Wait! Prince? Found the clothes to feminine? The dude that wears heels & has booty out pants?😅😅😅😅😅😅😅
I LOVE this movie! I've owned it on videotape & DVD. I've watched it more than a dozen times! It was the first time I'd seen Milla Jovovich on screen, & I thought she was a perfect blend of beauty & naivety (although, at times, she displays brilliance.) This movie makes me laugh (every scene with Chris Tucker in it) & cry (when Leeloo wants Dallas to say he loves her.) IMO, the casting, SFX, costumes, & soundtrack were close to perfect. While in social isolation during these trying times, I'll likely watch it a couple more times!
Bloody hell I love this film so much. "Supreme being, Lilu Dallas multipass" =) The soundtrack is amazing and the ending is so beautiful, and because of your number 1 fact, I can see why it's so genuine and lovely. Oh and Minty, it's Jovovich not Jokovich hahaa, bloody hell =P
This is one of my all time favourites, there is so many things wrong with it, tone, tempo, music and motivations - yet when all parts of the movie get together it somehow just works. Sometimes i wonder if Besson did it just as an dare to himself. Strong military general - lets make comedy scenes with him. Comedy sidekick - lets make him as annoying as possible. Romantic interest for our main hero - let her talk a language nobody understands, and finally evil villain, let us not explain why he goes along to destroy everything and let him never ever meet the main hero.
Happy they never did more. It might have worked back in the day, but definitely don't want them making anymore nowadays. Will end up with some PG13 garbage.
Adored this movie ( many times by now ) as well as Tuckers role, he was completely hilarious...Gary Oldman was superb, as always......the whole cast was very well cast too...
@Ana Lou @Gary Matrix Right on both counts. Lee Evans was Fog (one of the crew of the cruise liner), and Tricky was Zorg's right arm, Right Arm. (Yes, that was the character's name. "Right Arm".)
Milla Jovovich is hot, hot, hot what an incredible actress. She does an outstanding weird character Fifth Element, The Messenger, Million Dollar Motel, all the Resident Evil etc. She is just fantastic.
She pronounces it herself in commentaries of other movies Jo VO vich. Not Jo ko vich. I must accept how a person pronounces her own last name (stage name or otherwise) as how it is her name should be pronounced. As many times as her name is mentioned in this video, this is a drastic distraction. Fun fact: the Diva also astonished cast and crew by actually performing the bulk of her aria with her own voice, most of the aria was expected to have needed to be synthesized, as it wasn't believed a person could come close to truly performing it.
@@GeneralPadron That was one of my favorite parts of the movie and it was genus because the aria was part classical and new wave or what ever you call it, but it was great to me. This movie is a classic to me!
The fact that the hero and the villain never met but were so interconnected was a great part of the story. If Zorg had not fired the 1 million people the Dallas would have still be driving his cab. Or he might have been.I thought it was a great twist that they never met but were fighting against each other with out knowing it.
"Star Wars of the 90's". I remember Independence Day being described in the same way at the time. I think people were really wanting more SW movies that decade. Then we started getting them in the 00s and 10s and I think we all sort of regretted asking for more.
It's a crime not to mention Jean Paul Gautier's contribution to this film. The costumes are fantastic.
Indeed. The background people are usually never mentioned. I wish they had big toy of those fat puffer fish looking aliens from the beginning. Id buy it. 😏

Leeloo's language was not made up. In an interview a few years back, Milla said it was from her Ukrainian language but in baby talk.
@Brique Zallivam Actually it is YOU who has no right whatsoever to judge other peoples lives (without knowing a sh.t about them) yet you are "brave" enough to teach others how to behave...
Go figure ROFL
@Brique Zallivam Don't be shy, tell us how you really feel.
You do not have the Stones!!
My brother and I still quote a lot from this movie.
You brought me an empty case!! ZERO STONES, ZERO CRATES!!!!
We've risked our lives!!!
Are we green? Super green!
The opposite of full...lol
OMG my brother and I used to yell Ruuuuhhhbbbyyy whenever we would leave the room from the scene where Ruby was being separated from his entourage and they were upset yelling Ruby's name all whinny and scared.
I was a Security Officer at Pinewood Studios in England at the time this was being filmed
One thing I dig about this film is that it's not a dystopian future.
The fifth element what can I say A CLASSIC FILM 1 of the best sci fi ever made. Its absolutely ageless 22 years old and can still hold it's own against films now.
THIS MOVIE ROCKS
Dirty Dan I've watched a few times now on netflix.
Just want to echo a shoutout to Leon the Professional. Such a phenomenal movie!
In Croatian actually. There's a resort called Plava Laguna and also Zelena Laguna in Croatia.
@@darthtepes it means the same thing in Croatian as Serbian.
Super green.
Nikki M. Solis green like a Christmas tree
Supa Dupa green
Like crystal green
If was in the movie would it have been super purple
Was Bruce Willis's the star of the show?
I say it was lelu.
Not star, main protagonist, not meaning star but main good guy
One of my top movies of all time! Well edited video!!
Yeah that's right thanks LaDracul. That movie deserved a sequel.
Yep, I'm glad someone else caught that as well.
Same guy whose design for Jodorowsky’s comic where this movie took great inspiration/ripped off from
A movie that never gets old
Except for the last bit. Normally, once they leave the station, I just switch it off and call it done.
Agreed
I can't enough how great and fun this movie was. And it still feels fresh even though it's 20 years old!
When I see Chris Tucker's hair in this movie I always think of the iconic 80s video came character Q-Bert.
When I saw it.. I thought it was a live action "Heavy Metal" movie.
"The Fifth Element", does indeed follow another day in the life of "Cabbie" Harry Canyon.
YES me too......Has that rock n roll "out there" fantasy vibe.
Its one of the most perfect films ever made
Chris Tucker steals the show in this,.. I was in stitches watching this for the first time! And Gary Oldman is just sublime as per usual.
I 😍 this movie. I think it wouldn't have been the same without Chris. It was refreshing to see him play against type.
Really like this film, thanks for sharing Minty, great job! Aziz, light! 😆
This is my favorite movie. Ever since I was young. I love the soundtrack, I bought it as soon as it hit CD
Agreed on the soundtrack 😀
Before I even watch this I want you to know I love this movie!
I firmly believe that it should win a lifetime achievement award for editing!
Amongst other things ofc, lol... And judging by your previous work you'll do it justice...
Now, on to the show...
It’s a total classic and Chriss Tucker did a great job ,
dude, corbin wasn't the main character, Lelu was, so who cares if corbin never fought zorg... Also, i am a meat popsicle!
Korben ;)
I too am a meat popsicle, but a really gorgeous one!
tessamersus are u classified as human?
And Zorg wasn't the main villain.
Everyone in this film is bloody fantastic!
I never get tired of this movie. It has a charm that few movies has. This movie was a head of its time.
Love the movie and the soundtrack. and watching it on 4K it amazing
The fifth element is perfect! Love it from beginning to end.
One of the best movies everrrr
From THE actors to the music selection to the storyline THE BEST time to rewatch NOW
Rip Luke perry
Great video as always. I'm not sure I can see any other actor beside Chris Tucker playing that role.
Ray Ware yup
What about Kevin Hart?
Chris Rock maybe
This was the 90s so Damon Wayans.
Bloody hell I love this film so much. "Supreme being, Lilu Dallas multipass" =)
The soundtrack is amazing and the ending is so beautiful, and because of your number 1 fact, I can see why it's so genuine and lovely.
Romantic interest for our main hero - let her talk a language nobody understands, and finally evil villain, let us not explain why he goes along to destroy everything and let him never ever meet the main hero.
there shouldve been a trilogy. we were robbed.
SHE KNOWS ITS A MULTPASS!
with the way hollywood is going these days I wouldn't be surprised to see 2 and 3 made at some point. Besson has to release the scripts though.
There is also a cameo of British comedian Lee Evans in this.
@Ana Lou @Gary Matrix Right on both counts. Lee Evans was Fog (one of the crew of the cruise liner), and Tricky was Zorg's right arm, Right Arm. (Yes, that was the character's name. "Right Arm".)
A little known fact... Sylvester Stalone did NOT audition for the role of Lilu.
Milla Jovovich is hot, hot, hot what an incredible actress. She does an outstanding weird character Fifth Element, The Messenger, Million Dollar Motel, all the Resident Evil etc. She is just fantastic.
I loved Chris Tucker!!!! He helps save the planet in the movie.
"Yo Vo Vitch" no "J" or "G" sound.
Correct, Besson's feancé at the time, not wife, is a professional singer, classically trained with quit the talent.
shes a babe.
@@GeneralPadron she acted the role onscreen but the vocals were by Romanian diva Inva Mula
R.I.P Tommy D. "Tiny" Lister Jr. (1958-2020)
Oldmans character always made me think of Billy Bob Thornton.
Thank you for these "10 facts" videos. I've gone back to watch so many old favorites just because of them.
Given the train-wreck that is many sequels, I'm just as happy they left it at one.
4:00 Prince thought the costumes were too feminine??? 😂 Now that's hilarious.
One of my all time favorites!!
And the sound track is awesome!!
"Star Wars of the 90's". I remember Independence Day being described in the same way at the time. I think people were really wanting more SW movies that decade. Then we started getting them in the 00s and 10s and I think we all sort of regretted asking for more.
Actually, part of the inspiration for this movie came from the "Harry Canyon" segment of the animated film "Heavy Metal."
RexBlazer1 ...and the 1960s/70s Lauraline & Valerian adventure stories 👌🏾
Love the 5th Element,... one of my top 5 movies of all time
classic..one of my fav movies as a kid..one of my fav movies of the 90s..one of my fav movies ever
I thought Lelu was the main protagonists and Darkness was the main bad guy.
I would say this movie was more along the lines of Total Recall than Star Wars
A good hero stays focused on his mission, just like Corbin Dallas in this great and oddly satisfying movie.
My absolute number 1 favorite movie. I’ve owned 2DVDs, 2Superbit DVDs, a Blu-ray, a Digital copy and now a 4K. It’s on my iPads, and on my iPhone.
