Theme music: "Vespers" by Topher Mohr and Alex Alena, from the CZcams music library
Im an American that lives in a desert.
This is fascinating to me.
You journalism back ground affords us a well thought out and presented program or programme on your side of the pond. Always a treat !
Pretty sure it's not a journalism background that creates a thing of excellence like this video. It's a passion for producing quality work !
I think it's more so your dry English humor than the boats which keeps me subscribed.
Life is better for a dose of you and cruising the cut. Even the .music instantly on hearing rests the confused and irritated mind.
Seeing the Canadian flag on the boat makes me wish we had Canals here.
That "DILLIGAF" Do I Look Like I Give A Flip line cracked me up! I'm STILL laughing at that one! Love it!
It's true though. My father has a sail boat in Warwick Rhode Island and we are sometimes amused at the names of the boats at his marina.
Still great four years later. thank you.
Thanks,
Another entertaining VLOG. Your description of drunken party goers coming on uninvited reminded me of something.
Last English Summer, my older son Nige had a squatter on his narrow boat. She squatted for weeks and weeks but eventually she simply jumped off into the canal. A whole tribe of ducklings followed her.
Ahhhhhh, you had me worried for a moment there!
When I clicked on this I see I had already 'liked' it, I must have watched years ago. Still as relevant today, another great video, informative and entertaining, thanks for sharing
Dilligaf is my new favourite word...
Honestly I find these lovely vessels fascinating!! Each one has its own character. Thanks for letting us have a peek. 👍🇨🇦
Still catching up here, I often look in on boats for sale and I've always wondered what a "trad" and a "semi trad" were, now I know, thank you.👍
I am absolutely envious of boat life in British canals. I hope to introduce the idea to my home country soon.
God bless you good sir.
I have started going through your videos from beginning.
Me too! Quite an undertaking...
This is an amazing video. Wish I could have had a tour of every one of them.
I like the yellow narrow boat Dutch barrage
This is very interesting! I got here randomly but i'm hooked haha!
Thank you!
same with me...got here 4 days ago...and now I am addicted :-D
Exactly what I was looking for! Howdy from Texas , brothers and sisters! ♥️
Here in United States ,California , I appreciate your Excellent overview of what different types of Narrow Canal boats are out there....Continue to educate us in the U S so that we can have a understanding on LIFE on a Narrow Boat...Thanks
Thank you, plenty more to come, plenty of time ... everything's gentle on canal time :-)
Having a really bad time at the moment and your vlogs really calm me. Thank you
Must be bad if my vlogs can help! ;-) Seriously though, hope things improve for you soon. Cheers
The water is calming for the body & mind. That's why we go at a snails pace 🐌.
Gongoozler from New Zealand here but did spend a few years in the UK a while back and wished I did what you are doing now. I enjoy your videos.
+Roger Brown Gongoozling is an excellent way to spend time! Thanks for the compliment.
He is a professional videographer. I have watched and learned about Britains canal network. Very enjoyable was to pass time.
Thank you so much for a very informative video. Your explanation of the various types of boat set ups helps this landlocked, US, midwesterner understand better what a narrow boat is and where they came from. Cruise on good fellow!
A faultless video.
Your professionalism really shines in this video. That's not to say any of your others are lacking but this is unbelievably 'crisp'.
I'd be perfectly happy listening to you carry on about the boats ad infinitum, as long as you still felt you had something to share.
I love your enthusiasm, it’s quite contagious in a good way!
I have to say, I somehow got one of your videos in my “Recommended” section. I usually watch videos about retro computers from the 80s and some wrestling videos...so I’m puzzled why your channel was in there, but I am lucky it was! You’ve become one of my favorite CZcamsrs and I love your calm and lightly humorous delivery of the subject matter.
CZcams's algorithm really is a strange beast for sure but I'm glad it's recommending me and I'm glad you're enjoying the channel. Cheers
All your video's are just as good as the last and just as intresting and full of knowledge ☺👍
Loved it. Very enjoyable. (Hamilton, Ontario)
Cheers Ethan :-)
I've never been on a narrow boat and very much appreciate the tutorial.
Nice overview of the marina! Really enjoying your videos!
+Doug Palumbo Thanks Doug :-)
I live in Colorado, U.S. and am fascinated with Narrowboats. I like to look at them online and daydream. Thank you for explaining the different types. I knew a little bit of this but now I feel like I can properly identify them.
I just love your commentary. You look so happy to be living on your boat.
Nice mix of narrow boats. It is always so nice to see a "proper" video where you get "what it says on the tin!".
Cheers!
Don't think it's going to be too much longer before you're seen by the right person and you and your boat get your own series on mainstream TV, excellent quality throughout and a joy to watch, your enthusiasm is so contagious. 10 out of 10 yet again.
For some reason when I read this back before posting it reads like a Jeremy Vine -points of view comment!!!
Thank you, that would be splendid! Oddly enough I always wanted to host the Vine show (actually back in the day when it was the Jimmy Young show!!)
I think the assortment of styles and designs is part of my fascination with narrow boats. You would be hard fixed to find two of a kind, so many personalities all coming together on the canals.
It gets *really* varied once you go inside!!
i know a lot about boats on big waters, nice to learn about narrow boats, thanks )
Glad you enjoyed it, cheers
Entertaining and informative! Very well done!
Thank you!
THAT WAS GREAT!
I remember this randomly sunny period in February 2016. An early spring followed by months of winter resumption. Enjoying the channel very much, has rekindled by past enjoyment of going narrowboat pleasure cruising every year, out of season in the early spring before the traffic picks up. Two boats & eight of us travelling in convoy. It made short work of locks, but the kitchen was always very crowded during evening dinner since we ate together before spending the night on our respective boats.
It's is nice to view a video made with the professional touch; no hair flipping and coy looks with false (oh so false) humility. You've given me some great ideas. Many thanks for your time and effort.
Glad it helped, cheers!
Another interesting video. I had to chuckle at that boat name DILLIGAF! I would never have guessed if you hadn't explained, even though it's a phrase I use from time to time! :-)
+CaptainBee100 Me and the OH were at this marina the other week looking at a boat to buy - the OH pointed at "Carpe Diem" and said - "Oh look - God's Fish"!
I have watched several of your videos and find this life fascinatingly simple. In the USA I have never seen a boat like this but yours is beautiful. You must be proud of it. Good luck to you as you move into more of this new life you have chosen.
It really brings the canals alive to see all the different sized, shaped and coloured boats as eclectic as their owners, nice video and topic :)
Thank you. Should I do an "interiors" one do you think?
+CruisingTheCut Definately!!
+CruisingTheCut Yes, please! This was so informative; I loved learning about the history of the boats. What a lovely tradition.
aww man, I wanna see every boat's interior now. I'd love to stay in one for a nice, relaxing weekend getaway. * 0 *
Plenty available for hire, although it's not cheap ;-)
once again a very enjoyable and informative video.
thank you
:-)
Everybody needs a DILLIGAF these days.
Awesome. and thanks, for showing me around the different boats.
Very much enjoyed my canal journeys with you. Crisply shot and immersive to watch. I've never been on a canal boat holiday but would now love to, it looks like just my cup of tea.
hope you are coming back to the marina when you come for crick show.
I think Neil and all the lady's are missing you
be safe and have a great journey / Adventure
Ade & Angie
All the ladies missing me? Story of my life. Might be back, might go down the GU though and moor there. Thanks Ade / Angie!
Very nice introduction to the basic types. Thanks!
They look like so much fun.Great video Thank you.
Most excellent! Nice overview of narrow boats!
Glorious , beautiful and sunny day ! Love your vlogs man, always make me smile and learn a hella lot at the same time !
Watching from Perth Australia and love this vlog, thank you.
Thank you for an interesting look at narrow boats.
This is just a fantastic video, well thought out and informative, thank you 🙌

Thank you for that concise explanation of the different types available. As usual a wonderful video. We love watching all of yours so far!
Love your videos , getting more and more interested in this type of life ....
Cheers
nice perspective on the variety. thanks
:-)
Enjoyed seeing this Vlog again.
Love watching canal boat videos someday maybe have the money to buy one thanks for the videos 👍
I found that very interesting and certainly explanatory. Thank you.
Awesome vlog! Learned yet again. I like the boats with a open deck area at the bow and the stern.
Love this.. I think I am now a narrowboat nurd .. how interesting
Adored this. Top biscuit
very interesting, the bit about the one resembling an old tarp covered boat reminded me of "Narrowboat Dover" one of the best docs about converting/building an narrowboat and one I think you and your millions of viewing fans would enjoy.
Don't know it but I'll look it up. Cheers
Thanks for this very informative overview. A most enjoyable watch! Cheers, Stew
These videos are very well put together and presented. Thanks 😊
Recently discovered the channel and I love it! Always been fascinated by narrow boats and canals. Never been on a boat and will certainly never afford one but to see them up close like this is great. Thanks for showing us your life aboard a craft on a system which helped make Britain Great.
Muchas gracias, David. You have answered many of my questions.
I saw these boats when I visited England several years ago and fell in love with them. I'm learning so much from you.
Great blog from the US. Wisconsin. Thanks
Thanks for this great info, very much appreciated.
We don't have canals, but we do have -25° weather and several feet of snow in mid February. Bet you're jealous now!
VERY well done, IMO. Thank you.
i wish we had narrowboats in the us, i love tiny houses and house boats, and these are the perfect mix
:-)
We have it much better... houseboats that has the freedom to travel the vast riverway across the us...😉
Narrow boats are romantic and a wonderful way to experience the good life of the awsom English people... we have much to learn from them here in USA
Actually my favorite video so far. I strain to see the various narrowboats go by as I follow several who post videos of touring, but they rarely say anything about the other boats. At first I sort of thought they all looked alike, but began to notice the differences as I became more aware of the culture. I wish we had country-wide canal systems here in the US, but would probably have to drain the Great Lakes to fill them...:>)
You are fantastic.... love your clear, thoughtful explanations.... watch all your stories.... thank you so much....
Most excellently informative! 👍🏻
I was stationed at RAF Alconbury (about 100 years ago) and I was always fascinated by the canal boats. One of your videos was in my suggested videos yesterday and I was immediately sucked in. I’ve been binge watching from the first one since -very interesting lifestyle love the vids so far.
Fascinating - thanks for the type tour. No such crafts in Canada (that I've seen anyway) but we do love our fatter, albeit considerably shorter recreational boats anyway, and river cruising is a popular past time in the provinces that have navigable inland waterways.
Marvelous - Thank you
Thank you so much. I'm one of your overseas afficionadas of barges and it's always a pleasure to have you teach me something new each time I come upon your videos.
In that case better not call them barges. They're narrow boats.
@@michaelb2388 I believe barges generally don't have motors.
Thanks for sharing that information. I was needing some cruising so I thought I would see what you have. Have a great day
Waterway to have a good time
Always look forward to your videos David! Informative & entertaining!
Cheers Ken, thanks for watching :-)
I am saving for my first boat. Thank you for this vid
Good description in a short time. As a child in London , I remember barges being pulled along by horses. Those barges are probably a home on the water now. I have very fond memories of my grandfather taking me down to see the boats, and how they were moved. As a resident of the USA, I can say, absolutely, there is nothing to match the British canal system.
Wow, what a great memory to have; very few pulled by horses now, just tour boats. Cheers
very informative, thank you. I'm glad you did this one, if possible it would be nice to see the inside of some. loving it from Jamaica, cheers.
Love it mate
Thanks, good tour.
+lance gauthier Cheers
I'm considering buying one! Loved your video!!
Good info. Thank you!
Very interesting, thank you from “across the pond”.
Very hilarious lesson on narrow boats.
So very interesting, great video.
Enjoyed the video very much. Thanks a million
great video and a quick intro for people across the pond
Thank you.
Fantastic video. Loved the explanations of all the different kinds of boats. A nice long holiday on the canals is now on our travel list. Keep the great videos coming!
+Vixen LaRue Oh yes, you must! Don't worry, plenty more videos on the way :-)
