    I could see the use of a PHEV or a full hybrid with a diesel engine. My daily commute is 3 miles to the motorway, 28 miles on the motorway then 4 miles into a city centre. This would mean I could use the battery when not on the motorway, but all of these hybrids seem to use petrol engines. Did you see that MPG figure at the end? I'll be keeping my TDI for awhile longer, it returns around 54 MPG on my commute.

    If you are I love with BMW I can see an advantage over a petrol 5 series but if you add on the “extras” such as 4WD, camera and other items which should be standard in conjunction with running cost if you drive over 50 miles each way, the Jaguar I pace looks a much better proposition especially if you drive into London with congestion charge exemptions for ev and you can bet your bottom dollar that the imminent “dirty” charge in London which will expand to the north and south circular soon will end up being expanded to the M25

    Things to focus on with these PHEV's is the real world electric only range. For a lot of people, they would be better off in a pure EV, or potentially a diesel in comparison to this if their commute is longer that the electric range.

    • @NickLiang
      @NickLiang Před 2 lety

      Yeah its not great, in reality you only get about 75% of the range claimed. If you can do 1/2 of the journey on electric and the other half in petrol , your overall cost is still very low. Less so now with electricity costs at 28p/KWH. However, the main market for this car is company car users which makes up like 80% of the sales and the difference of 11% and 20%+ on list price is a significant difference in cost.

I don't care for extras I had a car with everything on it once before and promptly sold it because it didn't feel all that great to drive. My current car BMW 3 series m-sport, just has rear parking sensors and Bluetooth for phone calls and cruise control.
      I tend to aim for upto 3 year old with less than 35k miles on the clock, that way your not just throwing thousands down the the drain, then I'll keep the car for about 7 years.

      Nobody will ever get 29 miles out of it on electric alone, unless they live at the top of a mountain which is 29 miles from their destination. 18-20 during cold weather and about 24 during warm weather is more realistic - However, as most journeys are under 15 miles then it's still extremely economical and a lot of people who own them can go very long intervals between refuelling.

    It's paying extra for Apple carplay only, BMW still doesn't support Android Auto in any of its vehicles and if quotes from its leadership is anything to go by probably never will. Your only recourse is using the Android Auto app on your phone and casting to the iDrive system.

    the most heavily promoted car, which in fact is nothing outstanding if you just compare with the e60 the dealers’ statement of low consumption of 2.9 liters, an absolute lie the engine is derated, and without stage 1 it is a vegetable and not a BMW, the finishing materials do not correspond to the price of this car if you drive it After being on it for more than two weeks, all the puppy delight disappears..

    Saved money for years to buy a almost new car. Biggest mistake of my life. Before 3 years, the famous information console went blank. No sat-nav, no way to fix any warning, set up blue tooth etc. According to BMW, these are not important issues to take it seriously. Horrible and disappointing customer service. Never again...

    There’s no excuse for the useless real world battery range coupled with the wheezy version of the 2.0T... other than paying a premium for badge snobs to claim they’re driving a hybrid BMW

    Should really be called 520+.

    Mechanic and garage owner here with 38 years experience in the motor trade- you should RIP out the electric generator and battery = great car
    The battery lasts 29 miles ? With 6-7 hours charging, absolute pile of trash. Who has time for that. It’s not practical.
    Not to mention the repair bill if these electrical generators seize up. Which they will after a few years
    Electrical things since the dawn of when they were invented are designed to BREAK. It’s just how they work. It cannot match the reliability of petrol and diesel. Simple fill up when you run out of fuel, takes 40 seconds.
    Their trying so hard to wean us off petrol and diesel cars.
    If you actually want your car to last and not have 20 k repair bills. I’d stay away from electric or Hybrid. Too much tech.
