    ty for this, had a hard time getting the cable disconnected. Soon as you slide the deck out it all made sense how easy it was when you do that tiny move.
    Mine has just cut through its second belt in a month, at $100 a pop where I live in Canada I need to figure out why before I put another new one on. First was many years old I put it down to age, but when my new one didn't last a month I knew I had issues.

    Great video thanks. I'm throwing belts, they popped off last spring. I assumed they had stretched. This spring, doing my first cut yesterday, I replaced the belt and the new belt burned and the belt back peeled off. My neighbor says I prob have a bad pulley bearing. So, I'm going to remove the deck and have a look.

    Impressive video. Learning everyday about rider issues. Any suggestions for me on unlevel grass cut? I have checked sir tire pressure and checked blade replacement. The blades don't line up very good when putting them together. About 1/4 inch off. It was cutting okay with old blades just needed sharpened so I put a new set on. Not sure what else to do.
    Also mower acts like it is bogging down some while cutting but didn't before just last two weeks. Any advice is much appreciated.

    • @JohnsonsSmallEngines
      @JohnsonsSmallEngines  Před 3 měsíci

      As far as the uneven cut, check this video out; czcams.com/video/2BdllqplWsk/video.html. Aslo, this video may also help once you get the blades straight. czcams.com/video/JvaMxEdah5s/video.html. As far as the machine not performing (bogging down). Check to make sure your new blades are on correctly? not upside down. That will make the machine bog because your not cutting with the sharp side. It is almost Impossible to diagnose a engine issue without knowing what make and model it is and I would need to hear and run machine to properly diagnose.

    Loved this video. Very detailed and easy to understand. I just acquired a 4500. When trying to raise the deck past #4, the flat bars at the rear of the deck that you removed are hitting the bottom of the floor not allowing it to go into the #5 & #6 position. How can I correct this?

    • @JohnsonsSmallEngines
      @JohnsonsSmallEngines  Před 2 lety

      Not sure what you mean by flat bar but if your talking about the center mount bar for the mower deck it sounds like if the deck is hitting the frame it will not go any higher? And your height adjuster level still has a few numbers to go up? If that his the case? Does it matter where they are because the deck is as high as it will go? If I’m wrong about what you are talking about? Go to my website and contact me through the contact page. Tell me you saw my CZcams channel and if you can give me your cell number, I will text you tomorrow (Monday) do you can text me a picture of what you are talking about, then we can get to the issue if I can see what is happening.

  • @randallmadison
    @randallmadison Před 4 lety

    Great video and explanation! Also they should have made the rear deck lift link for both sides because you can’t adjust the other side so what’s the point? I just ordered a separate rear link I’m going to install on the right side replacing the hanging hook... that again, doesn’t adjust.

    • @karguy1720
      @karguy1720 Před 4 lety

      The deck side adjustment is only for the purpose of getting equal height between the blade tips and the ground. You only need one adjustable hanger to accomplish this adjustment.

    • @randallmadison
      @randallmadison Před 4 lety +1

      The factory height setting (for max height) was then too low. The only way to adjust the factory height setting equally on both sides is to replace the right side with an adjustable link. Explain to others (because I don’t need the help any longer and hope people will take my advice) otherwise how it’s possible or how the adjustment to do so is supposed to be accomplished. Because I accomplished it with aforementioned process. I couldn’t be happier either. Now I can raise the deck evenly and at max height when going over pavement or when the grass gets super high. I’m not a fan of cutting the grass down to golf course settings like most, which is bad for the grass. Replace with the adjustable link, you’ll be happy! I am!

I know it is there for tension against the break but can't see where. Any help would be appreciated.

    • @JohnsonsSmallEngines
      @JohnsonsSmallEngines  Před 2 lety

      You must take your model number off the tractor go to searsparts.com or Sears parts direct online put your model number in and it will bring up the parts breakdown. Look for the mower deck. Then find your part number. Then take your part number and either buy an OEM part which is original equipment manufacture. Or you may be able to cross reference it over to another belt aftermarket. Be careful buying aftermarket belts because sometimes they still don’t match up but most of the time they do.

  • @themrfabio2459

    This is a great video thank you for making it I have this exact same tractor. There’s so many belts on the market and I’m having a tough time finding which one exactly I need for this do you have a part number or a belt size for the mower deck belt

    • @JohnsonsSmallEngines
      @JohnsonsSmallEngines  Před 4 lety +1

      MrFabio24 You will need to take the model number off the sticker from underneath the seat of the machine and go to Sears parts direct online plug in your model number and it will bring up the parts breakdown on the tractor then you will be able to get the part number for your particular machine.A lot of machines look identical but without the model number you will not be getting the correct part number for your belt.

      @@JohnsonsSmallEngines So very true. I've gone through several belts due to just a "slight" error in size. One thing I recently learned is to remove the 5/8 bolt which holds the belt drive pulley which is under the engine. It is a long bolt but makes changing belts so much easier.

      Yes, you will need to make sure the blade engagement cable is tide up out of the way, take all deck hangers that are loose on the machine are off and make sure your PTO (blade engagement lever)lever is always in the off position or the machine will not start.

    I know this video is 2 years old if you still have this tractor and still make videos could you make it 3 minute video explaining how the deck brake arm or deck brake linkage is supposed to be originally set up and how you adjust it. it looks to me that there's a bar and one nut. it gets inserted on the back right side and then the threaded end goes through the actual brake pad arm and then the nut goes on but when I move the lever back and forth like the blade engagement spring would do one brake pad comes off the other one stays on the spindle . if I don't tighten it all the way down and bottom out the fridge it doesn't even begin to lift itself off of the pulley at all. there is absolutely no videos no schematics with directions nothing. this is going to be my last dish effort and then I'm going to take the brake arms off and throw them in the trash. anyway thank you for your time.

    At least drop the deck onto cardboard or something so the paint doesn't damage and cause rust when you slide it out, especially on concrete 🤦‍♂️
