This is a really simple project you can make in a few hours. I love having the handle on a step stool. It really makes it easy to move around and gives you added stability when climbing on. Especially useful for people with limited mobility. More on this project and free plans:

I could use one of these in the kitchen for the Apprentice. The kid loves to see what's going on at counter top height!
My kids love to help in the kitchen too I might make one as well
Arnold Amor
kids are never too young to start learning.. apparently your parents made that mistake. :|
I thought HEY FINALLY someone's going to use a home-made Fez-Stool in the shop. Thanks for the high-quality videos, I enjoy them.
This is a fantastic project and i am very much considering making this. Also i must add that your face when you were painting it pink was just priceless (secretly hoping for another wood working for manly men)!!!!!!
My biggest failure to date had to do with stain. I bought some aerosol polyshades and the can seemingly depressurized while still nearly full. Somewhere along the way, I picked up a spray can that you pour liquid into and pressurize with a compressor. So rather than waste a can of stain that I needed to finish a project, I decided to cut the bottom off and transfer it to my sprayed. Long story short, it was still very pressurized and it too ALOT of superfine steel wool to clean, not the garage, but the kitchen. Luckily my better half saw the humor in this and didn't get upset.
Another great video Steve.
So simple and great. I'll make this for my grandma.
I just finished this stool..turned out really good,,,,
I made a chair. My sister sat in it and it collapsed. I didnt make the legs secure enough. Great video Steve!
About a year ago you did a step stool, a handle on the step stool would really go big with the elderly. I am going to try that on the next step stool.
The shot of you sitting on the stool was cute. I just bought one of the Kreg jigs like you used for making pocket holes. I love it. I bought the Rockler glue bottle kit and was not impressed, but I am impressed with this video Sir Steve. Thanks for what you do Sir.
Great tip at 2:40 ! I have never seen that or thought of it!
Nice, I got a Kreg jig a couple of days ago for my birthday and really looking forward to making something and trying it out. I guess I should build a stool today. Thanks Steve.
I hope you upload this video someday ! Don't worry, you're not alone : I (once) came up with a workbench design that I thought was really nice, so I builded it, tested it, and sure enough, it seamed to stand up nicely. I threw all my tools on it, and lefted my workshop. As soon as I shut the door, I heard a not-so-nice sound, and my workbench fell apart with all my tools on it ... I had a great time cleaning my mess up.
Half the projects i start to make fail, so when i do get something right im always over the moon about it lol.
My mini stool project is still im bits as i made the sides non-symetrical when cutting them out with the jigsaw :( ive got a lot of sanding and filling to get them both the same size and shape.
Love the video Steve and you could. Probably never make them quick enough to keep me happy as i always end up just watching yours, izzy swans, paul sellers and matthias wandels to name a fews videos over and over again, even those ive seen dozens of times before.
Keep up the brilliant work and all the best, Dan.
Eric Macks favorite color! He'll want one just like it. Nice job Steve and thanks for sharing
Really enjoyed building this project. Easy and very functional. Thanks Steve!
The stool looks very similar to an Amish style I have seen on the Net. They made it in oak and varathaned it. Very practical and useful! And would make a good plant stand as well!
Nice project Steve! My Tie Rack Hanger video was a do over. My first design broke apart half way through the filming, so I totally redesigned the whole hanger and it came out 10X better anyway.
Nice Project today!!! My "Fail" was working with my Kreg,- drilled a hole and out came blue saw dust.... Yep - I forgot to readjust the drill bit stop collar.... So now I have a nice little pilot hole on the bottom of the jig...... O' the joys of woodworking!!! Keep up the good work, I enjoy your weekly projects!!!
Good project. You really know how to stir things up, you did the pink on purpose didn't you. Stand by for the fun lol.
You painted it pink... You might have to make another Woodworking for Manly Men videos!
Nice project Steve! Thanks!
Cute stool Steve. Makes you look so much younger! Lol
you sitting on that stool was the best steve
Steve asks about woodworking failures in the video. There are too many to count, but when I lived in Houston, I built a 2ft tall skateboard mini-ramp in my living room. I told myself that 1/4" plywood with joists at 8" centers would be sufficiently strong. The soft spot that formed at the bottom of the transition told me that I was drastically wrong.
Hi Steve. I like your videos and I justed wanted to give you and any other woodworker here a tip on free wood that's filling landfills here in the states, and possibly other countries as well. It's from crating for lawnmowers. The crates are often deck planking or heavier; often 3 to 7 ft long. This is the time of year the stores are stocking up, so the discarded crating is ,too. The stuff is easy to pull apart, not like pallets. It pains me to see so much nice wood getting tossed out so I like to spread the word. Have a great day !
Hi Steve, thanks for the video. I'm going to make one of these for my grandmother, she'll love it.
I saw a stool like this years ago in I think fine woodworking magazine. The base was a bit different and the handle was longer. All solid wood, and they gave a few ideas on customizing the handle. Great project! I'm going to make it now that you make it look so easy.
Good stuff Steve, thanks.
Steve,
Awesome idea for a stool, the handle is a great addition. I think My wife would like one of these for around the house.
Regards,
Bob
Not bad be nice for an older person to use.
Thanks Steve
Also, you have a new subscriber. Now to look through your videos to find things I may need to build.
Great little stool, already added it to my list of things I want to build.
It's a long list!
Hi Steve,
I have been looking all over different wood working channels, but could not find a guide to
1. Different Types of Natural and Synthetic woord
2. What types of wood are best suited for what type of job.
3. What type of woods are worse for what types of job.
If you sould do such a video I will be very very grateful to you for this.
Many thanks already for this marvellous channel.
Thanks for another cool video and easy project! I look forward to Fridays even more than ever. :)
Really love this channel, I'm learning tons. However, one thing that I'm not very fond of is how often he uses pocket screws after getting that jig of his. I'm sure if I ever got one, I'd find it a thousand kinds of useful, as well, but I'd still like to learn more about how to similarly join wood without screws.
Pleasure to watch as usual.
I really like your pick up truck!
Greetings from Bulgaria!
NICE WORK! i have made a few on my CNC for some friends.
That's cool Steve. I'll be able to do this project in my "jig saw hand drill shop"
That stool could also come in handy for beating off zombies -- you could really swing that thing! And of course, you can also scare off your most colour phobic viewers too. Fun and educational as always. Thanks.
The paint chooises Mr.Ramsey :) :)
Just made a 1/2" wall dovetailed box. I was test-fitting the joint, when half of one of the dovetails broke. Super Glue, the wood-worker's best friend....
Wonderful and great projet, thanks Steve for sharing.
Nice background music. Made it easy to hear you talk.
Nice little stool
I'm still new in woodworking my first project was your simple crate, everything as going along fine until I did not pay attention to spacing out the bottom, I was gluing an screwing lol) then I ran out of boards wondered what happened rewatched you video and oops It still works as I cut an placed a piece of plywood on bottom, that was all I had one hand at the time.
.
Hi Mr. Ramsey,
I am a BIG fan of your videos and new to woodworking. I just got a new table saw, and just wanted ask you which tool I should consider buying next. Thanks!
Never change, Steve. Never.
Steve, thanks for another fun and up-lifting video. My daughter loves the color! I like the mortice hole solution. Great job!
I haven't ever heard anybody say "I'm gonna square this up with my jigsaw." Gave me a chuckle.
Other than being pink, this would make a good little shop stool.
You always have great ideas. You should post your guitar stand with the build a better mouse trap concept. Someone may improve your original design. You know most things are the result of the last try not being a failure.
Sitting on the stool like a chair was awesome lol. Pretty funny :)
I been waiting all week for the next project. :-)
congrats again!!
regards from Brazil
I think that the guitar stand would be a good video. I am a musician and this would be very helpful for many people.
I have broken too many turning projects to count D: either going through the bottom of a bowl or taking one cut too many on a finial, but hey, its all experience and decorative firewood looks perfect in almost any BBQ
Sunday project ! Thanks Steve
I would like to know where you got the music for this video. I love it. I can't say it enough, you have some of the greatest projects. This is no exception. Thanks to the contributor.
Thanks Steve. Very nice.
Get a Milwaukee m18 to fit in those tight spots! Cool video bud
Steve,
I'm using the caption in Spanish translated into Portuguese. Translation from Spanish into Portuguese is almost perfect. Translation from English to Portuguese contained many more failures. THANK YOU for putting videos on this new option for subtitle.
[I used the Google translator to write this post, sorry for the possible errors]
How do you print your templates in sketch up so they come out to the right scale you need them? When i print plans as a reference is not a big deal, but if i want it to use as template, them measurements are not correct (they are scaled to fit on the paper)
Thank you for your help and you inspiration every day.
Nice stool you have there Buddy. Cheers Desmond.
"Woodworking for mere mortals is brought to you by...! Hahaha best opening ever!
Once it stays consistently warm here I'm going to try something like that.
Steve that pose you did sitting on the chair just cracked me up laughing **giggles!*
0:35 made me LOL! You're such a dork, and I mean that in the fondest way :)
So there is actually rain where Steve lives. In all other episodes there has always been sunny.
Mike I really think you should post that guitar stand video I would really like to make one
Thanks so much for your videos, Steve. Love your work and your style.
Quick question, if anyone still reads these old video comments: what's the advantage of the band saw over a jigsaw? You use both in this video - the band saw to cut out the template and then the jigsaw for the smaller holes. Am I right that the band saw is basically just a fixed-in-place jigsaw? Ie, a band saw is to a jigsaw as a drill press is to a drill?
Or are there other differences past that? Could I do everything with a jigsaw that you do with the band saw, just maybe not as easily on large(r) cuts? Thanks again!
+TheBloke The only difference is that a bandsaw blade is a loop, so it needs an entry point. It isn't possible to cut out a hole. With a jigsaw, you can drop the blade into a starter hole.
I made a adapter out of 1x4s to be able to connect my miter saw. I had it all finished and I dropped it on the floor and it shattered in half! I mixed up some 2 part epoxy and clamped it until it dried and it was all fixed!
Purple only. Lol. Thanks Steve
and another great video.....
Awesome video Steve. I've been searching your shop in every video looking for the first video I ever watched of yours. The 1st lightning shadowbox. Where did that thing run off to?
Thats cool , Im going to have to build something like that.
Im subscribed to you
Can u try to make a rollable woodbase for a flowerpot ? We have some at home but they are expensive as shit and i would like to see how to make them myself :)
Nice project
Another simple and useful project, Outro projeto simples e funcional! Congrats
My woodworking fail: it was the end of my senior year in high school and I wanted to make a wine stand for my aunt who really, r e a l l y loves wine. It was a board with a 45° angled hole at the top and another 45° angle taper at the bottom. It ended up never working no matter how hard I tried. I wanna revisit this, though. I think I need a thicker board. Angles and physics was never my thing.
cool as usual Steve
Steve
Failed projects you say? I say more fuel for the fire ;)
I have plenty of failed projects but I believe in "learn by doing" and if it goes tits up then I just use it for fire-wood and have another go. This is also why I mainly, and almost exclusively, use pine for my woodworking projects!
Amongst the failures there are also the big winners and I do have a lot fewer failures lately... Perhaps that's why last winter was so damn cold?
everything!!!
Manual screwdriver? I thought I was watching a Roy Underhill video for a minute there =)
Hey there Steve I am 14 and my name is Kaine I have seen every one of your videos and loved them all I make items on the lathe all the time and was wondering if you could make a video where you use your lathe. I would be amazed if you could make a video for me cheers Kaine.
You should step up to the challenge and make a new and improved guitar stand. I would probably like to make it myself.
Cool project. A question I have... Is glue on a project of like this really necessary? Once you get the screws in, it seems thee glue would be insignificant...
Awesome F150 Ranger
i love the part where u're sitting on the chair like a child!
Hello steve! I am interested in creating a wood working shop in some years but I was wondering if you could recommend any brands or any good tools that both you and others think are good. Many thanks and loving the show!
You made this on my bday
i want that k5 so bad!
Made this stool.. Pretty simple. Isn't as sturdy as I would have liked as the legs seem to shift back and forth slightly. Any suggestions on making it a bit more sturdy?
I think its time for another manly man project! :) Fun project Steve!
Y ahora con subtítulos. Gracias una vez más, Steve (aunque sin subtítulos estaba obligado a esforzarme para mejorar mi nivel de inglés).
As always another great video. This is a very useful project. I really enjoy your stuff. One question. Where can I get one of the glue bottles you use in this video? Thanks in advance.
What do you do with all of the projects you make? Do you keep them or sell them?
That would be good for my toddler with the handle
You should make a skateboard or longboard or something like that
nice choice of Color.. :p
do you have lots of pink paint Steve? nice design, looks perfect for the misses to reach the kitchen wall cabinets
