    Would you not put copper grease on the side of the break pad where it touches the bracket?

      Do you mean where those tin springs are? Probably not, I think there's a risk of getting it on braking surface. However, normally I apply some grease on a back of brake pads where they touch piston and those caliper "fingers", but this time I didn't.

      I have the same problem in my Sharan, but I didn't get to it yet and just keep it as it is. It's not that cold in UK.
      There must be some auxiliary heater that's failing, but I don't know how to fix it, sorry.
