Soldiers Stenciled Into Sand for 80th Anniversary of D-Day

- This art project on a beach in England isn't about building the best sand sculpture. Instead, it's meant to remember those who lost their lives storming a beach to defeat the Nazis in World War II. Eighty soldiers were stenciled into the sand to honor the sacrifices made so long ago. D-Day was the day 150,000 allied soldiers invaded Normandy, France, which was occupied by Nazi Germany in 1944. Inside Edition Digital's Mara Montalbano has more.
I don't think people know how horrific it was charging the beach
At least Spielberg portrayed the scene well in “Saving Private Ryan.”

Swimming through bodies of the men minutes ago were being commanded by your platoon commander.
Utah and Juno were in a way easy compared to the rest as German resistance were light and fewer. Gold and Sword were challenging, but Omaha was FUBAR.
Even fewer people know how tough it was for the following two months or so as the fighting moved inland, with the Americans struggling against the bocage terrain and the British and Canadians struggling against the German panzer divisions. A lurking Tiger or Panther tank was nightmare fuel.
Never forget that day

@@BoxWillethat’s not really funny dude
@@BoxWille Not funny what so ever. Very childish behavior.
@@Mr101editz I did as well.
@@Based_Gigachad_001 it’s okay. I never expected you to be that smart
What a beautiful tribute! I work at Walmart in Texas. I was able to meet a veteran that actually was one of these men that stormed these beaches! You only had to be 16 w/folks permission to enlist then.
Oh wow, I didn’t know that!
Wait it’s the 80th anniversary?
On June 6, yes.
Yeah, crazy
Yes it’s the 80th anniversary historian
Time flies
Yep, crazy to think that it was 80 years ago...
This makes me cry 😢
And I love that a veteran carries on from his father.
Rest in peace and thank you.
Amazing work everyone
They truly were the greatest generation to have ever lived, may God bless every single one of them.
Lovely tribute to those heroes on 6th JUNE.

Outstanding!
Long live soldiers
I love this so much. ❤
The symbolism is the waves is really clever and meaningful
Awesome❤
Amazing to think it’s been 80 years since that bloody day. And I know of at least one woman was there on the beach (not sure which one) and that was Martha Gellhorn who snuck off with medics, was a stretcher bearer. Another group was there but over a month later.
Every soldier is human
I wish more people from my generation (Gen Z) cared about those who sacrificed their lives during D-Day and WW2
That's one thing I've noticed with your generation. Many couldn't care less about anything.
@@TheLordOfNothingI care. In fact, I’ve studied for 8 years
I appreciate it a lot, it’s just too graphic for me to think about most of the time

Rest in peace my great uncle fought and survied d day but died later in hurtgen forrest
And foreign invaders would get off their dinghies and walk over that beautiful artwork.

Brave men. Lest we forget.
Upmost respect to all who fought during D Day, America played a crucial role in the invasion with over 2,500 lost on one beach
Respect for the fallen 😔🙏🕊️⚰️
Amen
People dont realize the fear D-Day brought to the soldiers. I mean just imagine playing the same Minecraft world for 20 years 27/7 (representing your life) on hardcore and then one day it just might be taken away from you. If you’ve ever lost a hardcore world u know how bad that’d feel. Now imagine that happening to 150 000 people.
And imagine all the dogs u tamed be left alone forever.
Oh, my. What a moving tribute. My father fought in Europe in WWII. Many of my uncles did, too, and some never returned home. Thank you, gentlemen. Here in America, where the mainland never saw an invasion and people didn’t know about the U-boats lurking off the coast, so much has been forgotten and even more people just don’t care. We should always care. In the rising of the sun and in it’s going down, we remember them.
I am not sure if it was at this specific shore. But i am going to say it anyway. Thank you for honoring the men who fought at this beach. Including my great uncle who died saving his comrades but got eaten by a shark while doing so during world war 2.
That is in powerful
They couldn’t give them a rake with a longer handle? Their poor backs
On June 6 1944, on Utah Omaha gold Juno and sword 170,000 troops would storm the beach’s but over 4,000 men died and more would die on the way.
“War is hell”
My great grandpa was a medic on D-day if I remember correctly
D-day happened on my birthday
they would thank you
There was no girl… army relief on enemy land is done by the 'spoil of war'.
Yeah there were no women on D-Day lmao
Thank you to every solider and veteran who risked their lives. We will never forget.

See!!!!!
Art doesnt have to suck!!!!!!
Pretty sure there were no girls, only strong fearless men
The only woman there was a war correspondent named Martha Gellhorn.
me when I stop women from going to war:
The women were fearless too. Do not disregard their actions because they were not there
@@Mr101editz Women aren’t fearless. Also i will discredit them because they were Not even there. They would probably all get targeted by the Germans lmao

0:34 It was just guys on D-day. Women didn't fight in the British Army in WW2. They were only in support roles and not on the battlefield. I'm guessing he just misspoke, since it's normal to says guys and girls in reference to the modern British army as women serving in the army is now normalised.
😮😮😮
I thought D-day was June 6th
its not june 6th yet....

And girls?
Yeah I noticed he said that
Women weren't apart of the invasion force but they were stationed just off shore on various hospital ships to care for the wounded soldiers. Some British nurses were killed, along with their patients, when one hospital ship hit a mine.
@@mrquirky3626 Ty I didn't know that.
No female soldiers participated in the actual D-Day landing, they were stationed onboard the ships supporting the attack. This commemorates the brave soldiers who stormed the beaches and not the brave soldiers who fought in ships.
