I don't think it ever will. When you know the sound of bands at the calibre of The Beatles, CCR, The Rolling Stones, etc it's very easy place Magnolia Electric Company right up there with the White Album. I think Jason Molina proved that idiocracy is in full swing here in America when people like him get swept under the rug.

I think the issue is that his Melodies aren’t up to par with his lyrics. That’s what keeps him from the heights of Elliott Smith or Sparklehorse.

I just discovered Jason 3 days ago. I have never become so obsessed with a catalog of music before in my life...song after song after song of pure gold....all so god damned good it hurts. How the hell this guy flew under my radar all these years is beyond me. We truly lost an immeasurable treasure when we lost Jason Molina.

Last December I was revisiting a note I read about him the monday following his death, that note was the reason I got more into his music, anyway, I'm going to put an extract of that note cuz' i guess the journalist behind it was pretty much right.
"His songs are filled with warnings about disconnection and disaffection that weren’t heeded, and in the end, the messenger drowned in the air around him. part of me felt that the world should have taken better care of Molina. And yet, what was the alternative? A Jason Molina who was broadly embraced? That wouldn’t have been Molina at all. He occupied the margins because the center was abhorrent. He was able to be genuinely poetic because his broadcasts reached such a small number of people. Believe in the idea that almost no one understood him and that’s the most important thing to understand."

Jozz, beautiful, thoughtful words from both you and the journalist. I recently came upon Jason's songs, and they've been so moving and helpful. Devastating to learn he died so young. Makes me think of my current friend struggling with the disease and not wanting to succumb to the pull of disconnection and disaffection.

Jesper Sahner Pedersen I found him with Songs:Ohio and followed most of Magnolia Electric Co. too. I never saw interviews like this with him until after he passed. I read that he drank himself to death. He doesn’t seem like the self-destructive type. I think the world was just harder for him to be in it that most be a of how deeply he felt things in a deeply flawed world. So talented and missed. Do you have an article or video you’d recommend to sum up what happened to him? Thanks
