    • @lewisjones3345
      @lewisjones3345 Před 4 lety +10

      We care about efficiency so much more now, so Kobe is judged differently than when he came to the league. The nba is a different place now, but he was still great.

    • @baby-go8iz
      @baby-go8iz Před 4 lety +34

      @Daniel Martinez
      The notion that Kobe is inefficient is completely false. This myth stems from Kobe’s “low” (not even) career FG% of 45%; however, there are several issues with using this as reasoning for Kobe being inefficient.
      First of all, FG% isn't even an accurate way to measure scoring efficiency. It only accounts for shots made out of those that were attempted, which completely ignores 3pt% and free throw%. For this reason, true shooting % would be a much better way to determine whos "efficient" and who's not, because true shooting % takes multiple things into consideration.
      Remember, Bryant's career Ts% of 56% isn't too far off of Michael Jordans 58%, and Jordan is NEVER considered inefficient
      Efficiency isn't just shooting the ball, it's making the most of your possessions, and Bryant most definitely did that. Per possession, from '01-'10, Kobe produced 1.129 points. For some perspective, LeBron James produces just 1.137 for his career
      Just something to think about, after the '04-05 season when new rules were implemented, Bryant from '06-'10 average 29.8 PPG on 57% TS, while LeBron James averaged 28 PPG on 57% TS. During this period of time, Kobe was just as efficient as LeBron at his peak, while also scoring at a higher volume!
      And finally, here are the statistics that compare Kobe's efficiency to other players of his era:
      League Average Shooting Percentages:
      FG% = 45%
      2PT% = 45% [FOR GUARDS]
      3PT% = 35%
      FT% = 75%
      EFG% = 45%
      TS% = 55%
      Kobe Bryant Entire Career During Regular Season:
      FG% = 45%
      2PT% = 48%
      3PT% = 33%
      FT% = 84%
      EFG% = 48%
      TS% = 55%
      Kobe Bryant Entire Career Post Season:
      FG% = 45%
      2PT% = 48%
      3PT% = 33%
      FT% = 82%
      EFG% = 48%
      TS% = 54%
      With that being said, how was Bryant inefficient?

      BALL IS LIFE I agree wholeheartedly! Kobe Bryant was amazing and the best at his profession for a long time. Kobe was a better shooter than Jordan with more range. Also Kobe was the best tough shot maker of all time. My comment about his efficiency was more about perception after his prime and injuries from his haters and weird Jordan defenders who need to push down Kobe. I always find it funny when fans try to push down others then pretend that their preferred players grew taller.

      @@leonarddoeman735 you might've been born in 2010s, but Kobe was undeniably the best player in the league from 03/04-10/11ish. Every player in interviews (including LeBron, Shaq when they were beefing admitted it, etc.). You bringing up his team, I mean Kobe did play on possibly the worst team assembled (Chris Mihm, Kwame Brown, Luke Walton, and Smush Parker) as a starting lineup. Plus, Pau Gasol was an All Star level player, but pre/post Kobe wasn't all that impressive (no hate). I mean he doesn't rank as a top 50 player, sadly, and was at times ranked outside of top 10 active players 09-10. Compare any teams from 08-10 to LeBron, KD, Curry, Duncan, etc. teams, talent wise way better than Kobe teams, but Kobe still got them there. Your argument of needing another star doesn't hold weight, as a majority every team needed a co-star to win (MJ/Pippen, Shaq/Kobe, Kobe/Pau, Duncan/Parker/Manu/Kawhi, LeBron/Wade/Bosh, LeBron/Kyrie/Love, KD/Curry/Thompson/Green, etc.). And every player has been on some verge of leaving, Duncan almost left for Orlando, Dirk at a point pondered moving, etc. but those 2 along with Kobe stuck it out through tough times and found a way to win

    best player in the NBA was Jordan from '85 to '98, then Shaq from '99 to '03, then Kobe from '04 to '11, then LeBron from '12-present. i don't think anyone ever considered Tim Duncan a better player than Kobe. i do agree that Shaq was arguably better than Kobe if you're comparing both of their peak prime years. the problem is Kobe's prime lasted much longer...from about 1999 to 2013 while Shaq's prime was only from about 1994 to 2003. his play declined noticeably because of his weight gain from '04 onward even though he won the title in '05 with Wade but that's just because even a diminished Shaq was still a top player in the league.

We're talking pure skills, mentality, leadership, everything he does on the court on both ends, in tip top shape while playing within a team system such as the triangle; feeding it to Shaq when he could get 40 every night if he wanted to, getting everyone involved by letting them make plays unlike guys like Harden, Lebron, Westbrook who constantly have the ball and pass for a shot. Prime Kobe is more lethal plus longevity obviously.

      The Pacers tried to do the same. They had "7'4" Rik Smits, Dale Davis, Austin Croschere, and Sam Perkins. The 76ers traded a great shot blocker in Theo Ratliff for Dikembe bc they knew he'd was the better defender against Shaq. And after the Nets got swept by the Lakers in '02, the Nets traded for him bc they expected to see the Lakers in the Finals again.

    Shaq’s prime was like 96-2001.
    Shaq just didn’t work as hard as Kobe. Shaq never made teammates better. Every offense he played in was a “stop what you’re doing and throw the ball to Shaq every time” offense. Kobe as the leader had to force the guys around him to play better. He had to make Pau Gasol play tougher. He had to make Lamar Odom play at his highest level. He had to make Andrew Bynum focus and play like a superstar bigman even if nobody saw him as a superstar. And then for Kobe to have the will power and energy to carry the whole scoring load for weeks at a time? How could you not take Kobe?!

Lebron was making the playoffs in 2008 and being a 4th seed while his team won only 45 games. While in the west, the nuggets had 50 wins and were an 8th seed. Wilt had to play against like 8-9 Hall of Famers tho on that stacked Celtics team and every series went to game 7... If you give Wilt that superteam he would have at least 10 rings he's the real GOAT just look at the stats

      Zain Casey Shaq was a sidekick in Miami then. And he didn’t do shit in Orlando

      Joe Stuehmer his stats don’t really mean much in an era we’re there were fewer rules and like 6 teams in the NBA plus a lot of the players were like part timers. There would be no way in hell wilt could score 100 let alone 50ppg in the 80s,90s, or even today
