My Grandfather fought in Hue during the Vietnam War. He even got on TV accidentally when Walter Cronkite was reporting the news across the street where him and his Platoon were huddle next to a wall. I saw the footage once on a History Channel documentary called 1968 because my grandfather pointed out which Marine he was.
Hope he is still well.
He's 70 now and fighting colon cancer and winning. He's doing pretty good all considering.
Well u should ask him how many kids he had killed, just kidding man, hope him getting better with his sickness
+Duy Phuc Nguyen to be honest, there were a lot of instances of child soldiers in the liberation army. So to defend themselve, they need to do it, it was harsh but needed. And the Mi Lai incident? there were speculations of hidden Viet Cong in the village in the form of civilians, also on the way there they were mad because of countless of traps and paranoia and stress. The most suspicious part was one of the interview after the incident, it was a woman, she scared when hear the question and refused to answer whether there was a hiding Viet Cong in the village. So really, did the " liberation " army was that righteous?
I have a friend of mine who still lives in Vietnam who fought for the ARVN when he was 13. He was there when Saigon fell and one of the 1,000s who ditched his gear to blend in with the population when NVA tanks began rolling in.

I actually find that these videos help me in my history work, i got an A on my latest history test and when my teacher asked me how i learned for the test, i showed her your channel on her computer, now at least once a week my teacher plays one of your videos in class, it seems to help me and my pupils

My dad was a veteran of this war, he never spoke negative of his enemy, the people who spit on him getting off the plane,, only the media, he said we were put in a position to kill with compassion witch was taken advantage of by nvc and others by using women n children. It took me a while to figure out why holes were kicked in the walls beside of my dads bed till one day when i was older he fell out the other side,, he said he almost got me that time son,, but I got him,, lets go plow the garden. He was the best man I ever knew 🥺

The only reason north Veitnam turned to communism was because the allied nations turned them away. North Vietnam wanted what every country wants: sovereignty and independence. While Vietnam was being occupied by France, the communists were willing to help them regain independence.
well in reality it was because of the awful way the French colonists treated the native population exploiting them and the land to make as much profit with Vietnam's valuable natural resources such as rubber

For 2'06'' I was thinking "another very classic approach of the media on the VW stating that the media WERE criticising the war (and played a key role in the defeat)"
But you startled me when (even very briefly) you quickly invalidated this view.
I try to teach a more complicated overview of the role of media in the VW and I am definitely going to use this video for starters.
Well done, good job, I'll recommend your book on the VW to my students to get a quick overview of the conflict.

PS: If anyone is interested in getting to know more about the (mostly) supportive role of US media in the VW, I strongly recommend "The Uncensored War" by D. Hallin (1985). A revisionist bias, a bit old but well-substantiated.

No wonder the earlier wars were censored .
That's because john q public is too soft to deal with war and should be kept in the dark as much as possible about what happens on the field of battle.
War is never pretty, but we must see it for what it is. The media should never glorify war. We civilians should know what we’re forcing our young men in the military in to. Maybe if we actually saw more of the horrors of war, we wouldn’t be so egger to get into one.

Not really, philippines was a puppet country not a colony, and the president at that time was Manuel L. Quezon
The Philippines was kinda an independent country that time basically the Americans said we'll give you 10 years to rule over yourselves we'll be gone for now on and we will not help you in those years and so they left we had our own common wealth and ya even our own army
