- Craig Melvin is the host of "Dateline NBC" and an anchor on NBC's "Today" show, and he says he owes it all to Stephen. The two randomly met on a plane flight and Stephen gave Craig a pep talk right before his job interview with NBC News. #Colbert #TheLateShow #CraigMelvin

It's never too late to get help... Inspiring.
I love the way Craig Melvin tells a story. It has such a beautiful flow to it. There’s humor and depth. He feels like he’s being authentic when he shares his heart and I appreciate people like that because so much of life is people being superficial. And I absolutely loved the suit!
I see him everyday at my job at the golf course. We talk a lot. He can be a bit of a dush, little do you know.
It is amazing how we impact other people-oftentimes without even realizing it. The pep talk Stephen Colbert gave Craig Melvin during that flight arguably changed the entire trajectory of his life (as he himself acknowledges). Positivity truly is a powerful tool.
That sounds awesome!
He made me cry. Thank God for good therapists. Generational curses destroy so many lives. Real men are my hope. Thank you gentlemen.
very true, that.
I love Craig! When he started on the Today Show, I didn’t know him but I liked him. He’s authentic & has helped bring the show back from the “Lauer days”. Thank you, Craig, for making the show feel more genuine & fun. You deserve all your success! 😊
Stephen is such a pro: knows when it's more important to listen than be funny.
Both their stories are inspiring. To struggle thru so much and yet, still found their path.
Good for his dad! 36 years sober. Beautiful man….
'if this guy can make it......' - wonderful!
I am in love with that shirt that Craig Melvin is wearing.
What a great man. And of course for Colbert to know to put Craig on his show super early in his return, once again Colbert's brilliance and kindness.
Craig is a real natural. Love him on the today show.
A very talented man, a very inspiring story and may I add that never has a pink shirt looked so amazingly attractive and lovely... on anyone... ever...
Or is it just me? 😊
It's the Al Roker influence.
He’s a fine looking man!!
Looks amazing on him!
No he rocks in the pink shirt and I love his voice, so I am a regular viewer of his.
What lovely men these two are❤
Appreciate Craig sharing his personal story - that takes a lot of courage. For those giving Colbert credit for changing his life, you’re not giving Mr. Melvin his due - as a trauma survivor, as a Black man, and as a human.
seriously! all these people here writing up a white savior narrative for craig without even knowing it... ugh
It's entirely possible to give both credit, even if Craig Melvin naturally gets most of it. Are you trying to throw his word into doubt when he gives Colbert credit for an important kind word and example provided at the right time? Really?
I'm from Columbia, South Carolina and Craig Melvin was our beloved anchor on WIS News. It was evident ALWAYS that he would become a national treasure.
Wow what a beautiful story-Pops!
This interview isn't funny, but damn is it deeply moving. SC's ability to do this sometimes is one of the reasons I love him.
Just lovely. The 2 of them. 💗
That's why Colbert worships the ground Evie walks on. She married a struggling artist. She just have loved him very much.
He's not the only person Stephen has inspired, I assure you.
not inspired. stephan calmed him.
Indeed.
I love his suit
Craig Melvin could father all my children. So Zaddy!
This shows the power of simply being kind to strangers and giving just a bit of your time to help you, but it also shows the power of listening to strangers and allowing them in just enough to help us out. They say God helps those who help themselves, and I think that's often misunderstood, we have to help ourselves receive the help of others. That's true whether you are are nervous for a job interview, or have been an alcoholic for 40 years.
For Craig Melvin, the day Colbert graced his village was the most important day of his life. But for Colbert, it was only a Tuesday
Colbert is from Charleston, SC, which in 2009 was a smaller village than Melvin's village. They both had the good sense to leave.
I walked by him today in Norwalk, CT. Plus served pizza to him many times at shorehaven golf course
Best Tuba sound I've ever heard recorded live. Great presence in the mix too. What a player!
Just a thought. Could we please keep the no-handshake policy in place? Forever? It's too darn risky. You shake hands; your hands go to your face: boom. Enter colds, flu, etc. With hugs, faces go to the side. Have a good one everyone! ;)
I agree but for other reasons. I have not missed the handshake the last 1 1/2 years.
Yes! I'm all for it!!!
Wow, I had a similar experience growing up where my dad worked nights at the NYT and slept during the day. He was also a gambler and would lose money on a regular. My mom had bi polar and was in and out of treatment hospitals. I would always be on my guard wondering if today was the day she would break down into tears. I was always armed with ideas to cheer her up and decorating the house seemed like a common ground for both of us. Of course, nothing prevented her from experiencing a total break because there was nothing at the time that would lift her from her emotional hi's and lows. Until lithium which was invented when I was in high school and as soon as I went to college, she took on a new personna which was delightful to encounter. She started baking and selling nutbreads and made a name for herself in our small town. I was so proud of her.
Thanks for sharing
Another reason Stephen is the goat!!
I love Craig Melvin... I would not watch the today show if not for him
Uhh Stephen Colbert ran for president? Who else watches this man religiously but didnt know that.
Aw man, that was such a funny time! It happened while I was in college so I remember it well! He only ran in South Carolina, and eventually when he officially applied to be on the ballot, the Democratic Party of South Carolina denied his application because they didn't think he was being serious.
And then he threw his support behind Herman Cain... :p
It was hilarious - I was at the dueling rallies between Colbert and Jon Stuart here in DC. It was chaos and so fun
We need more men like this
These are not men.
@@stephenr9194 why?
I am in Charlston. come on home Stephen.
#StephenColbert 😘❣🤗😘❣👈👉from 🇳🇬🤗
Talking about therapy casually ❤️
🥂 🖖🏾
Yes, this is nice, touching at times, but couldn't Craig have chosen a suit that didn't *precisely* match the furniture? 😂
Let's make fun of the future people who won't come over because it takes .8 to teleport and .5 is their little bubble. Sooorieeeeee😘
Totally shitty time to take a break without even acknowledging what the guest so heartfully said . Boo!
I figure something was said that was edited out.
And the Peabody Award goes too... the old guy making fun of Reeses Puffs? They couldn't make a new cereal if cow zombies fed off their cereal SCol. Low hanging fruit. 2021 is the year to get up again Meow.
I'm so over "news personalities" I had no idea who this guy is. I stoped watching mainstream news crap in the 90's.
They have distinct personalities.
