It's always so ridiculous when you realize the people/companies who have the most money are almost always the ones who end up paying their workers like crap.
and they keep getting worse and worse just bc they decided they need to make more and MORE profit off of the same product type every damn quarter
so they cut wages, etc
@@LisaFevral literally, it's just all rooted in straight up greed
That’s why they have the most money ma’am. They’re shorting their workers’ checks to get that extra money
« Aesthetics » and « vibes » ruined the fun in fashion for me,we keep coming with the most ridiculous ones 😭 it was funny as long as no one took it too seriously.
Yeah I feel like aesthetics precede life now
I feel like yall are just on tiktok too much
Its not that deep buddy😂 wrong op
@@katc2040who cares🤷🏽♀️ same for u ppl who are youtube too much
I like aesthetics cause at least I can easily search for clothes that have similar vibe :'))
As a fashion designer, I can only say that Djerf Avenue designs are as groundbreaking as florals for spring.
Creating garments (professionally) consists of actually drawing from your imagination, then making a pattern that is realistic for the design, choosing colours, fabrics, etc..
It is not choosing your favourite Pinterest finds, changing the seams a little and boom, that's it.
That's what unethical businesses like shein do.
I want some type of art in fashion, that’s the only thing that has anything interesting in any visual medium, so simply putting a navy sweater on and calling it a day won’t cut it ahaha
@@LisaFevral Couldn’t agree with you more!
I need to see avant-garde designs, over the top outfits, creativity. Not everything beige à la Kim K’s house....
Even when someone is basic in one department, or likes minimalism, they at least have something else going on like interesting ideas, insight, etc. in the case of these people it’s all basic aesthetics and nothing else outside of it
@@LisaFevral Yes, exactly! All copy and paste
djerf avenue screams "private label"
As someone who sews clothes for myself this is so funny. Like bby girl there are only so many ways to construct a garment, you are not inventing anything with your boxy cut pyjamas. Even the print reminds me of the wallpaper in my grandmas kitchen she got in the 60s. Everything has been done before, few things are completely original.
Also this kind of drama happens about once a week in the knitting community and it always involves some basic ass pattern and a girlie who thinks she's the bees knees with her limited knitting knowledge.
Omggg I sew and knit too and was thinking the exact same thing
exactly omfg hahahahaha
thats so funny the knitting community😂
👏 YES! 💯 to everything you said lol!
It's so funny to read this right after seeing a girl on twitter saying a brand in SPFW copied her silhouette and then people replying showing her it's actually a knitting technique known for at least 50+ years in their region 😅
So glad Matilda graced us with the godsend that is the ✨ black turtleneck ✨
Truly one of the moments of all time 👊😣
I'm living for your intro on Matilda Djerf. I always felt like I was crazy bc I've seen her style being described as innovative, creative, ground-breaking etc. by smart and fashionable people and I'm like ???
I've thankfully only seen people that also barely know much about fashion praising her, but it's still not making much sense😭
i didn't even know abt this basic ass brand until the video but girl do i love the drama
Same eheheh
I mean she's swedish and Sweden is famous for H&M and Ikea, not paying workers is literally their culture lmao....
As a disabled person I deeply appreciate your rant ❤️ Ive only seen other disabled people talk about these issues. Brands are FUMBLING THE BAG by ignoring 20% of the population. Ive been working on designing some cute but adaptive clothes from recycled/thrifted material, I'm so sick of this BS. Adaptive clothes are so expensive and dystopian, while brands made by able-bodied designers aren't safe, functional or accessible. Often they're not even function for able-bodied people themselves🤦🏻♀️ If we have more disabled people designing clothes, EVERYONE can be cute AND comfortable lol
Adaptive clothing is just another great example of the curb cut effect (something that was made for people with disabilities but actually helps everyone). I have a pair of adult velcro shoes because it’s hard for me to tie laces (and I love this brand because they look like a totally normal pair of work shoes). My mom also has a pair, and despite having none of my coordination issues, they’re some of her favorite shoes because they’re so quick to put on and comfortable for when she needs to run a quick errand or cross the street to ask the neighbors for something.
as a maximalistic, clean girl aesthetic is SOOO BORING
I swear, nothing is more boring than an almost-empty room, for me it takes for a place to have some personality, you need so many objects it’s so comforting~
Not a maximalist, but I agree w you !
A few years ago I had the same feeling I had as a kid in the 90s growing up in an artistic house .. where I felt kind of insecure about my living room lol.. glad I snapped out of that
People and their grey apartments with their grey blazers and everything lacking any personal touch
I respect people who like that minimal style and stuff but don't pretend like you're doing something different and innovative. Not everyone needs to be a stylist or an influencer even. Just enjoy your boring ass home and style in private
She's built her career through collaborations with fast fashion brands that sell basic ass clothes made of polyester, so I wouldn't be surprised to learn that she just decided one day to get contacts of the manufacturers and just start her own private label. I genuinely cannot see difference between her own brand and those brands that she used to create ads for.
what brands has she collabed w ?
@@lindahhh Gina Tricot, NA-KD, Zalando (technically not a clothing brand but a marketplace) - these I remember from the top of my head
That logo was a jump scare. It looks like it was made for a high school class, as a first project. 😫
Right???? Lorrddd
Not only it looks like that, but it reminds me to the logo of a mexican series called "Lo que callamos las mujeres". It's so funny, because it's the same profile, but they put it a line for hair and a beauty mark?
Omg thank you , I’m only a couple minutes in, but I read the Forbes top 50 in fashion out of curiosity. It was like half makeup girls , which is fine , but it could have been called fashion and beauty . It felt so diluted to me and I don’t associate many of the people on the list with fashion, but it seemed to be all about the reach they would have with follower count .
omg yeah that list is total bs
@@LisaFevral great video as always babe . You cut through the bullshit with such intellectual prowess , I love u
😘
I remember too over the years before Matilda had her brand etc. she was getting called out for copying smaller creator’s content. Yeah…She’s just savvy at profiting off copying and always has been.
They always end up being plagiarist from the very beginning, eh
Djerf more adjacent to finance bros drop shipping than fashion 😰
I think they made efforts with the fabrics in terms of sustainability and trying to do reselling of their clothes on their website, but aside from that, it does seem like it omfg
The necklace is so beautifuuuul ❤️ I hope your brand does well you are very talented
Thank you🤍🤍
I was legit just staring at it for a good couple of minutes, it’s so pretty!
It is so refreshing to hear someone actually swear in a youtube video
unrelated but that blue eyeshadow is so stunning on you
Oh thank you🥰🥰
Ethically paid EXCEPT THE FACTORY WORKERS???
Thays disgusting.
Such an insightful video Lisa! I love fashion, but don't know a lot beyond my own style, so videos like these that go into the bts and larger world is very interesting!
I’m glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for talking about how much you had to pay to set up your first photoshoot! Love the insight and you putting the people who domt pay well in their place
i hateee being a fashion girlie (girlie gender neutral LMAO)(also leaning a bit more alt fashion but not fully yk) and then having all these boring ass clean girl aesthetic girlies acting like me and other ppl who dress similarly are the unfashionable ones jst cos we like color and maximalism and shit like ma'am- ur literally just wearing a grey blazer
different but related i find the "streetwear" industry extremely bizarre for a lot of the same reasons. it has nothing to do with designing fashion -- the clothing just happens to be the substrate on which a brand's trademarks are situated. you as an "influencer" can start a "clothing brand" by having someone print your logo on preproduced t-shirts, and suddenly you are a fashion designer. but what you are just doing is ordering stuff. i fail to see the originality in most of it.
what complicates thing is that the milieu all these people work within is the sole domain and property of huge corporations. your work exists on their platform at their will. since it's easier for them to remove content that gets reported, the people making this stuff -- and it is all just Stuff -- are completely at the mercy of the automated systems run by huge corporations.
it can be argued that nothing is truly original or new and when i look at the first picture of djerf's website i just see the preppy shit people were wearing when i was in junior high in the late 80s. it'd be funny if ralph lauren came down heavy on djerf just to stir things up.
Yeah I agree with all this. I’m so tired of ppl who don’t know anything about art/fashion/etc claiming to be designers and “fashion it girls” when they are literally nothing of the sort omfg
@@LisaFevralgiving gatekeep girl boss
@@katc2040 If she was gatekeeping she would of said none of those people deserve to be educated on fashion or that they can't try be in the fashion industry. What she said was that those people ARE uneducated in fashion/art and claiming to be something that they're not. She's not saying that they can't learn, but that they should educate themselves more. It's the same concept with any other career, no one is born knowing these things. If you're an artist, historian, a doctor, heck even a construction worker etc. you have to know what you're doing and/or talking about. You obviously have to practice/study and become more knowledgable in a topic so you can understand it better and further you skills. I highly recommend you do the same and brush up on your literacy comprehension skills and look up the definition of gatekeeping, because you clearly don't understand the point that was being made and used a word that made no sense in this situation.
it's about passion and creativity, and not pieces of paper! I appreciate education, and personally think it is beneficial for everyone, but it is ultimately about care
@@katc2040 also this moment is so funny, bc you GENUINELY think that Matilda, who is driving a porsche, is a poor lil girl that is being "gatekept" out of intellectual circles. This "gatekeeping" from information is only a problem when it comes to things like class, race, and other things that someone can be prejudiced against by the systems we operate in. Matilda chooses to be lazy and boring, no one is keeping a rich white European girl out of institutions where she could learn a thing or two
Yes girlie! Enlighten us with your wisdom!❤
two videos in a week you’re spoiling us 😭😭
It’s very much giving when Lauren Conrad’s style got big in the late 2000s 😂
Oof, I liked the Cult Gaia bag, but I had no idea they tried suing people over it.
yeah, they tried at least, I assume unsuccessfully entirely ahah
Yees I agree! I like that you acknowledge copying is hurtful but usually not illegal and I also hate proclaiming basic people as fashion gurus.
17:50 We have a version of this character in India too: Copies an American IP without giving credit, out of touch on a podcast and sued someone who she thought was copying her.
omg they are like the plague in every corner of the world omfg
Omg who
Djerf Avenue with the copyright situation is pathetic on their part but sad on the people that brought the real thing.
Even my basic clothes are little unique than the brand's clothing. Which is saying something of unspecial the clothes are. If I could find them at a discount store. It's not that special of clothing of the fashion world. I had found some finds in a discount store like my fabric coat for the winter for a example.
I do find it weird that the website doesn't show the women heads in some of the photos. Like, a ripped Barbie head. Even cheap clothing brands does show the faces of the models besides on jewelry section.
P.S. Thank you for showing marina.eerrie because I have found a new fashion designer to look at their amazing photography. 🥰
omg im SO glad and grateful you mentioned marina bc months ago i was trying my hardest to find the damn designer/stylist/ANYONE who made seulgis dress in 28 reasons 😭😭😭
you should follow stylebyrv5 and KSGUpdates on twt, they show red velvet and seulgi outfits and where everything is from!
@@LisaFevral TYSM i will be stalking them on the regular
So many of their designs are out of like polyester, and to charge so much for what in my opinion is such a common material??? Wool, cashmere, milk ect I understand take a lot of money comparatively to make, but not what's plastic+
Lisa, you look so slay in today’s video! 👏🏽
P.S. This nostalgia and whole ‘simpler times’ s**t needs to stop.
Thank youuuu🤍🤍
24:10 LMAO PLS u did not need to eat her up like this HAVE MERCY 😭😭
🤭🤭🤭
So glad you talked about this, Lisa, you never miss!
PREACH GURL PREACH!!! SAY THE TRUTH!!!
9:25 Cultural appropriation of Non-European designs? People used to get away with that once upon a time. #IYKYK
Ikr, there were so many designers who also dared to try and copyright it omfg
I think clothing quality has gone down because of fast fashion. Polyester is like the new cotton/ wool and that makes me mad. Not even kidding it took me three days to find a wool cardigan. The amount of clothes that have been thrown out it so bad.
GIRL. You popped off with this, I LOVED it.
I adore Lisa. She always has such a well researched, intelligent, compelling argument for everything she talks about. I really hope this channel keeps growing, as well as her business.
thank you🤍🤍
Glad you made this, your other video made me curious about this Djerf girl!
i love your necklace! I'm so proud of you for designing it 😩
This video was very insightful and you brought up many good points! I love your makeup so much, and your necklace is absolutely gorgeous 💙✨
Keep on speaking your truth girl!!!!
i adore your videos 🧚🏻♀️
Love ur channel. And yes…working until you feel like puking is a real thing on photoshoots. Ive worked 28 hours straight before, no break, no toilet and no food all because we “didn’t have enough time” when it was actually just shitty production run too thin. Its literally setup to suck you dry, even your puke.
I literally don’t plan too much in one day when I’m the producer bc we’re not saving lives, it’s not that important to be torturing everyone
Omg, I cannot believe you just mentioned Marina Eerrie! I too saw an ad of her brand some time ago and instantly fell in LOVE with all the designs. I'd wear that stuff every day if I could. What an interesting coincidence!
I have to say, that might be one of the UGLIEST logos I've ever seen🤦🏻♀️...It looks like a mash-up of the font in an "I'm not a robot" reCAPTCHA, & an Adobe stock logo for a 1990's strip-mall massage parlor.
25:58 girl i'm an editor working for someone whose videos get up to 6M views and i don't get paid more than 30 dollars per video (and i know i'm one of their better paid editors) it's nuts out here!!!!!!!!!!!!
Per VIDEO??? Not per hour?????
so I calculated, and for 6 million views, based on less than average RPM, they made 21k for that video. and they paid you 30 bucks???? WHY do people love to steal from others?? this is crazy
if the channel is based in the us or some other country like that(bc some countries like India, Russia, etc do not get that much for ads). I live in canada, but my channel is small, I don't even make as much as they do for one video in a damn year
@@LisaFevral it's US based 💀💀💀 i do it because it's very consistent work and since i live in south america, getting paid in us dollars for stuff like this means making more money than working traditional jobs + it's way more convenient
but it's more common than you think for some channels to outsource basically everything they can (the video scripts, narration, editing, etc) from websites like fiverr or upwork where you are lucky if they pay you more than like $0,50/1 per minute edited, and it's hard to get decent editing jobs with no connections lmao
Yeah I’m always so surprised how little many of the social media people do, bc I do everything myself omfg and when I hear what they pay ppl who do all the work for them… ugh it’s just gross
omg i love marina eerrie's designs i had the feeling you were gona mention them fr
That first photo from the “countryside collection” is a slightly updated 90s mom fit. She’s truly not reinventing the wheel here.
love u always spitting facts
Good video, would love to hear you talk more about high fashion and how you perceive high fashion world and how it affects your life/ society etc. ( the social divissions that are more visible bc of clothing, classism and and hiper consumist culture/ fast fashion ) idk that type of stuff if you are interested in sharing (maybe you have allready done that idk)
Pd: You are so incisive with your wording it is pretty pleasant, It can be " condescending" but i think that even if it is, it adds to your personal charm. Keep it up💫🐉
Thank you, glad you like the vid🤍🤍
I’ve never seen a video that made so many good points 👏👏👏
I love every word of this!
WEEEEEEEEEEEE I LOVE WHEN LISA GOES OFF ABOUT FASHION
I love everything said in this video and all the f bombs and all the common sense lmao. We need to keep calling this shit out.
damn lisa, you really popped off with this one. i can feel your anger so much lol. dw i felt it the same way too
the logo is- wow..
29:28 Looks like amazing wedding dress 😍😍😍
When I was in the 11th grade my engineering teacher told me getting things patent is hell, so I can imagine getting a original design and a different stitch pattern patent is a pain in the ass, I see it over and over again ppl coming into fashion and don’t know anything about fashion, they just like how its presented on the outside but behind the scenes it’s very stressful and not a walk in the park 🤷🏾♀️
Yeah it’s just not as easy as ppl think it is, and you HAVE TO come up with something entirely new functionally speaking for it to be patented
love the eyeshadow babe 💙
The girl's are fighting over formal wear?
Let me sit down
and your photoshoot looks incredible I am eyeing off those pieces girl so nice
two videos in one week? les gooo
A bit off top but, I constantly see people stealing handmade designs. Recently, a popular (in my country) performer released a copy of TearsAndDears jewelry as her merch
Was it a literal copy??
@@LisaFevral Yes
7:25 yikes! $134 for a black sleevless turtle neck? Haha puhhleasee! You made so many great points Lisa and I've learned alot through the comments too!
Sad thing is this is not only a Matilda problem, we need to stop buying from capitalist companies and support smaller creative businesses who pay their workers ethical wages
the most annoying thing about this is that EVERYTHING is set up like this, so everyone who is trying to do better will still not be able to hit all points, bc the system is so flawed. AND the worst part is that we tend to cancel people who have less money and opportunity than those who have a choice, bc we have higher standards for people who have a heart and WANT to do better than those who couldn't care less
Not to pop your balloon but companies are inherently capitalist whether you're a small business or whether you're Louis Vuitton. Small companies that pay their workers competitive wages are also capitalist because I'm sure the owners are not there to not get a profit. That would be foolish.
It’s the first video I see from you so I don’t know where you’re from, but Matilda’s lack of basic compassion for other people is a typical Western/ Northern European behavior. If you are from a poorer european country they will literally step on you with no remorse, you’re just a means to an end for them. I am so sorry for the Portuguese factory workers, I hope they get to work in better conditions
Yeah, I know what you mean. It’s always so baffling when people who have all the opportunities in the world and get to meet tons of people still have crazy ideas of superiority intact.
Lol. No. Matilda is an asshole but dragging an entire group of people is.. icky as fuck.
Cult Gaia…..who’s founder is the daughter of the CEO of MGA aka the owners of Bratz the girls with the passion for fashion….. Shakespeare could not write better irony😢 tragic
So glad I never bought anything from this brand. Not that it’s in my tax bracket but I do save to buy high quality items occasionally. Glad I didn’t give her any money
I had no idea about this but when you showed the LOGO?? It's so basic like be fr!!
Omg gonna follow the Instagram marina now, it looks amazing, great video ❤
I love her pieces sm, the ig page is a treat and a half
i vaguely have heard about this controversy but mann... what the hell is going on in tiktok
your make up look is so slay in this video 💕
Thank you🤍🤍
I am not sure if you are first generation immigrant or not but if you were could you do an compare and contrast video of the two cultures and how it comes back to bite you as a person that had to adapt to that? I have been having having so many feelings about it but I am not a youtuber.
I’ve never agreed with a video this much before
i LOVE your insight on this, especially when it comes to runways! learning something new with every video :D
would you ever be interested in making like recommendation videos on where to shop sustainably? or do you even have some pointers for me? i keep trying to find nice brands/stores but they all have very boring fashion...
Yeah I’m gonna try to put a list together, but it’s super hard tbh
@@LisaFevral that would be awesome, thank you so much! take your time, i can only imagine how time consuming this has to be.
you can trademark your work but it needs to be original if its to basic then you cannot trademark it prints yes , style but it needs to be very extreme.
style in terms of actual cut of clothes is not something you can trademark, unless you invent a new utility for an object and then you can get a patent. Trademarks are for logos, very specific design features(usually that's the logo or a symbol) and/or taglines/expressions
NOOO EAITTT she’s sooo nice 😭 when she gave that girl a present😭 I’m dying

I'll look into it!!
@@LisaFevral yass i love your videos
What’s your eyeshadow and lip colour girl!❤
Clothes that only look good on a skinny body in an “aesthetic” pose. If you see the outfits walking down the street it looks like someone playing dress up.
speak on it!
preach
Can you imagine if DVF pulled this kind of stunt every time a brand made a wrap dress? 💀
aesthetics and trends are so calculated, it really makes no sense. fashion is no fun anymore!!!!
its not just british britney
Copyright infringement? Clearly you mean curbing artistic freedom and inspiration 😂
I'm sure you get this a lot, you look so much like Taylor Tomlinson!
if i suddenly from one day to the next completely lose interest in fashion you're the last fashion youtuber i would be unfollowing. the no bs stays refreshing. can i recommend a pop filter for that mic though
I love how savage this video is
Marina Eeri stuff is made of of Polyester. It's a no no for me, the quality is not there for the price. The dishes are amazing, though. Thanks for your take on Matilda, I totally agree. What she is doing is terrible.
And just imagine Mary Kate and Ashley Olson or Khaite fighting against knock offs :D they don't need to. People will buy their stuff either way, because the quality and designs are perfection.
I read somewhere that djerf avenue is to the fashion industry what glossier was to the skin care/make up industry and i can't unsee it. Their downfall will be as big, and slow sure, as glossier's. A company so focused on vibes, they actually forget to care about the actual fit, working conditions, materials, quality, everything that actually matters. Also... sure, she tries to be inclusive but is it... just a bunch of scandy looking girls being overhyped by the media... if Matilda were poc, her brand would've never ever reached the kind of reach and influence she and her brand have gained. Time to wash our eyes and see with realness
Sense 🫶
sorry im just laughing bc didnt gucci just do the gucci tanktop with just a gucci on it 🤣🤣🤣
$11million in profit 2022! Margins are crazy high
yup, and considering ppl are already complaining about the drop in quality - they made the margins even wider
Not to be a hater, but there’s nothing innovative about minimalist “clean girl” clothes. Like, if I wanted that i’d go somewhere like Ralph lauren……
Ikr😭
👏👏👏👏👏👏

i don't generally give a fuck about this girl world that mainstream women have built, so matilda doesn't do it for me, but if there's one thing that's entertaining about her is how greedy she is and how little she cares.
