  • The Hifiman line of planars is large offering model from $150 to $6000. The HE1000 V2 sits near the top of the line but the Susvara holds the flagship title. How do these two stack up?

    I heard the Susvara and I didn't know what all the fuss was about, then I heard it on an 8 watt tube amp and I was like Holy $%^&

    Your point about "driving" them is on point. I have the HE1000SE and love them. Considering they are driven by a Burson Grand Tourer as main amp and Sennheiser HDV820 pre-amp.
    Thank you for your review.

    Hey, really like your videos!
    I've had the He1000 V2 for about a year now, and I love it. I bought the Hifiman EF400 dac-amp to drive it, and so far I have not heard the headphones on any other chain.
    Can you put a few words on what kind of chain this headphone would benefit from? I'm wondering how much would be gained from an upgrade. So far l like the musicality of the EF400. Female singer sibilance is my biggest gripe.

    I`ve just got my first hifi man headphone a pair of He1000v2 stealth . First impression is Wow these are excellent straight from the box . I use an SPL Phonitor se
    amp with a Weiss 202 dac . The phonitor has over 5 watts per channel and drive them with power to spare this sounds like a perfect combination .

    I would just get the HE 1000 V2 over the Susvara! much easier to drive and a lot cheaper now. don't need a 3000 amp to work well. and really like 88 percent performance of the Susvara. this would be end game for most people

      @@DiamondTrack Arya is punchier/more visceral (only relatively, still has the Hifiman more ethereal sound) while the He1000v2 is a bit more resolving and better technically, but less bass punch and overall impact. I also found it slightly smoother up top also, where the Arya has a small peak. I ended up going in a completely direction though, and returned the HE1000v2 went with LCD-5 with RME ADI-2 parametric EQ and Ferrum Oor. Very different direction, I know lol... but loving it so far

    Have you ever wondered what’s the next step for headphones like this? Like for me I have a 007mk1 (haven’t tried every headphone but I’ve tried a lot) and I know it doesn’t get much better especially if you eq. Some headphones have super cool presentations like a Stax sigma or a Raal or akgk1000, but overall what do you think is the next step that really could have an impact on this industry. How much more detail can you get ya know?

    Hey, thanks a lot for this nice video! I have a question regarding the Hifiman he 1000 se, as it is easy to drive, which amp do you recommend for it? Do you think a Fiio k7 or 9 is enough, Or would the sound quality be greatly improved with a better amplifier?

    • @SineCraftAudio
      @SineCraftAudio  Před 9 měsíci +1

      The HE1000 se is a pretty serious performer but has a bit of thinner presentation. For my taste I'd prefer a warmer and more fluid amp + dac combo to pair with it. For similar money you might check out the EF600 from Hifiman or look at xDuoo + SMSL dac. Schiit has some good options on that same range. The HE1000 can certainly scale to the capabilities of much more expensive DAC+AMP combos.

      @@asotoposada I haven't seen anyone else using one of my combinations of Hifiman HE1000SE (HE 1000SE written on the side, not the V2) HIBY R6 3 DAP with a FiiO BTR7 dac amp. The dongle dac BTR7 sounds better than plugging right into the HIBY DAP. (Sorry HIBBY.) Use the BTR7 if desired for an EQ with massive headroom unlike a phone EQ that just doesn't have it. Why? The HE 1000SE will reproduce any changes you make faithfully instead of choking on say, too much bass. AND what is perhaps more interesting here in this combo with the HIBY R6 III DAP is its "MSEB" settings under "Audio Settings." See Z's review to see if 'he likes MSEB' is a fair summary. MSEB tweaks settings over all sound outputs regardless of source. IT ALSO works over the BTR7 dongle DAC. Consider the first MSEB setting that has a slider to tweak the output between "cool" and "warm." (I think most people would know what they can probably do with that.) The next slider is "bass extension." There must be a reason why Z likes MSEB. And so do I. Thank you Z! Nothing like a completely portable solution that still blows my mind with how a combo like this should not sound rich, detailed, and powerful. Or turn it off. I'd sure like to get my hands on a well amped Susvara and compare the sound from the combo I just described that sounds sublime, as in I'm not sure what voodoo comes out of the HIBY DAP, BTR7 DAC AMP combo, but I love it. I doubt the Susvara would like this combo. Of course there's nothing stopping you from trying it. Just, what are you doing pairing $6,000 headphones to a dongle?
      And yet. . . :)

    I've watched this twice and did not see any reference to what Dac and Amp you are using for this review, or for your own enjoyment. It would be helpful if you could list the chain. I ordered a Sus that's not here yet. I'm upgrading from HE1KV2 like your video. Plan on driving it with my RME ADI-2 Pro DAC and my Flux VOLOT Amp.

    • @SineCraftAudio
      @SineCraftAudio  Před rokem

      Hmm, I'd be hard pressed to remember my exact chain at the time, lots of gear has come and gone since then. I usually have two tube and two SS amps at any given time to try and get a variety of pairings. DAC was probably a Pontus II. I've head good things about the VOLOT but have yet to try one. I'm not a fan of the RME ADI-2 Pro but I know a lot of folks love it.

    I got the Arya Stealth ($1599) but I noticed that the HE1000v2 is now $2000 (instead of $3000). I'm tempted to try the Hifiman trading program to get the HE1000v2 better soundstage (mainly) but in the same time, I fear losing the "correctness" induced by the stealth magnets of the Arya... Do you think the trade would be a worthy move (soundwise)?

    • @SineCraftAudio
      @SineCraftAudio  Před rokem +2

      For an extra $400 I think the HE1000 V2 is a solid step up in technical performance. The HE1K has a lighter touch and is less full bodied so depending on your preference you may not like it better.

      @@SineCraftAudio Thanks. It might be ok for me but do you think I would loose a bit of clarity because the HE1000v2 doesn't have stealth magnets (I guess they increase clarity)? (soundstage, resolution and tonal balance are my main criteria thoug; dynamics is less important for me)

    What is the music source? Streaming?
    It always brings me back to this question? "High Resolution Streaming" is in fact "Back to the Future" analogue recordings with sample rates only to get closer to magnetic tape & it's vinyl pressings inception!
    Unless it's totally new music being digitally recorded from source to playback? In the way "Technics" has done with its new pure digital sound machine.
    High Res usually means anything above 16-bit digital. Going as high as 192Khz sample rates from the standard 44.1khz.
    Which still begs the question? What sources are actually H.Res from what music recording source used to test High-end headphones?
    High-end gear testing often uses Streams of "analogue" recordings! The fact remains, everything begins as analogue before it's recorded!
    "Audiophiles" & music lovers alike have libraries of analogue recordings that include typical Red Book CD's at 16-bit as well!
    The Hifiman 1000 V2 are amazing sound/music reproducers! I personally favored them over Focal's Utopia! Which has been my reference, as well as super lite Stax L-700 mk2!
    With Planar headphones, weight & size is a big deciding factor for me. I've been coming around to the HE 1000 V2 as the pinicle Planar that are large but aren't as heavy as it's competition. (The Utopia has gotten too heavy & bulky for me..& expensive!)
    Please excuse my ramblings here.
    Thanks for the comparo. But realistically, at a certain price point the need for "accessories" for ultimate playback resolution seems to me being a bit pretentious?
    Theoretically, a $6000 headphone should not need anything else that a $2000 has already done in droves with its HE 1000 V2!
    Stax L-700mk2 requires $2500 commitment with energizer.
    My point, there's a lot of excellence to enjoy under $6k avoiding depreciating returns. 🙂

      2.5 and 3.5 mm versions. The price gap between the V2 and Susvara is more significant and it seems like more folks upgrade from the V2. I also wasn't able to get my hands on a SE but would love to review it someday.
