  • Pretty good shoot out here. I’ve got the HE6SEv2, which you know I’m a fan of, the Arya Stealth Edition (thanks to Hifiman), and a HE1000v2 (thanks to a friend of the channel). They are all wonderful headphones, but I think the overall winner is the HE1000 (I have sense purchase one, that probably tells you what you need to know). Check out the vid for more details.

I just got an HE6SE-V2. I think it's really worth mentioning how competitive it is with these others at its street price. With the correct URL extension, you can legitimately buy these NEW at Adorama for $550. The fact that they are very competitive with headphones 3-4x their price speaks extraordinarily well for their sound quality. They're truly fantastic and an all-time audio bargain. I paid $1000 for my pair, but that's because they were not only heavily modded, but came with an extremely nice cable. I would still heartily recommend them stock at that price, but again, you're realistically paying much much less. Great comparison though!

I don't have much experience with Hifiman headphones as I have only tried the Sundara and the he560 v4, but both I thought were the absolute best sounding for their price brackets. They are just great all-around. Love their sound signatures, detail seems to be above all else, and great separation. I don't think you can really go wrong with Hifiman at this point.

I also use Ether Flow 1.1 but HE6SEv2 are so natural and their openess is insane. Everything sounds without effort. Impact, detail, smoothness are TOP !

I am getting back into audiophile gear after a long hiatus (back in college I worked at a high end audio store) and owned many systems my favorite being planar speakers such as large Magnepans with ribbon treaters. I am looking to get that open sound from headphones and am starting from scratch - need both DAC/AMP and headphones. Unfortunately all of the high-end audio stores closed near me (all big box garbage now) with the closest HIFIMAN dealer being some 500 miles away in California.
With that background I have been looking at reviews and appreciate your review MrAryit and am torn between the Arya Stealth and HE1000 V2 which as Pickles & UFOs pointed out have dropped in price. I am thinking of getting a Chord Mojo 2 to drive the headphones reading about Chord's amazing new DAC at a good price compared to the rest of the Chord line plus I like the idea of being able to have a "portable" system not tied to my desk. My question is has anyone tried either the Arya Stealth or the HE1000 V2 with the Mojo 2...if it has enough power top drive them comfortably and how it sounds?

I would fully agree, that the Hifiman Arya Stealth sounds a tad wider, when replacing the included cable with another one (e.g. Ananda Stealth). With the quarter-inch cable it sounds more intimate and details are more directly discernible, as the are slightly more "in your face".

Hifiman cables are a joke, Im using my Ananda SM which is really cheap nowadays (350$) with high quality custom cable. To be honest for me it is better headphone than Arya V2 that I owned in past, for sure it has got better timbre and its not harsh at highs. IMO it is not worth to buy any ~1000$ headphones if Ananda exists for 350$ 😅 Hifiman killed them all with new prices

I have been trying to upgrade from the LCD-2f (2016), but as yet, I have not found a clear winner.
The LCD-X 20121 had their detail and better tuning out of the box, but the 2f was just better at rest. The 2f just stirs you.
Next was the Arya SE. It was a bit like the LCD-X, with fine detail and a big soundstage, but at times vocals were way off and not intimate at (I don't mean I want it super close) all. It came off as sitting in a room with the singer, but on some tracks, when its meant to be more up close, it was not with the Arya.
I am now left (budget-wise) with the He1000v2. So I wonder if you have heard the 2f before and how it compares with the H21000v2.
    Thanks

Did you ever try out high gain volume bypass on the HE6? It's a pretty drastic leap in control, clarity, and separation. I almost can't even listen to my Soloist unless it's in volume bypass mode, I just toggle between gain stages and adjust volume with a passive preamp.

Nice work! I agree HiFiMan has it going on right now. IMO their more recent generations tend to have the largest number of strengths and lowest number of drawbacks at their respective price points. I've seen claims that the Arya makes the HE1000v2 superfluous, which utterly baffles me. To me it's the other way around where the ability to score a HE1000v2 in the $1800-2k range makes the Arya a tougher sell. The one downside there is the HE1000v2's treble can be a bit hot when paired with the wrong amp. IMO you need a smoother, less-treble forward amp to pair it with. I like the Violectric sound with it. The Headamp GS-X Mini was a bad match. Keep up the good work!

Anyway, I decided to put things on hold and keep the Arya Stealth for the moment (I chose it as a compromise before go for an endgame TOTL, mainly for it's forwardness and clarity, knowing that the soundstage was adequate but not optimal). I will skip the HE1000v2 because it doesn't have the stealth magnets tech and I will save for a potential Susvara, which seems to be the best to unite performance and enjoyment in the same package. I haven't tried the Susvara yet but I tried the LCD5 (balanced and efficient but lack of excitment), the SR1A (amazing soundstage but bass light), the Utopia (almost perfect but small soundstage) and still, I chose the Arya Stealth as a good all arounder. Is Burson Conductor 3X Performance a good match for HE1000V2?

We’ll, I haven’t heard the conductor, so it’s hard for me to weigh in. Have you heard how it compares to the soloist?

I sold my he1000v2 in 2020 and now I'm happy with Arya se and he6se v2 in my collection.
I was very disappointed by the build of he1000v2 - the fake wood and ungly 2.5mm cable jacks, nowhere near a premium product. He1000se is slightly better built with 3.5mm jacks, but too bright for my taste.

I feel like the 1000v2 can sound sterile and unengaging. I struggle to get dancing listening to it. I heard that the He6 has a more engaging, involving, energetic sound

I didn't feel that way about them, but it is probably source dependent. I ended up going back to the HE6seV2, just because their price has come down. I was able to pick up a set for $350--Another $40 for a suspension strap headband and that's a pretty killer headphone for $400.

I’ve been thinking about this, and the only way I can see it is that they would be at the bottom of the list for me. How far down is certainly debatable, and I’m sure some people would probably prefer it. I’ll have a Sundara video shortly.

(PIN THIS): IMPORTANT NOTE........If you want to enhance the bass, sweeten the midrange, and give more air to the sound then move the HE1000v2 as far forward on your head as it will go. Have the backs of your ears touching the back of the cups, as far forward on your head as it can. This creates no space behind your ear and increased space in front of your ear. Really enhances this headphone.
