Replacing the front brakes on my 2015 Jeep Cherokee KL I wasn't expecting almost everything on this jeep to be using a E-torx socket. I had a mad rush to find the tools i needed to tackle this simple job

Like they say, any 20 minute job is just one siezed or broken bolt away from being a two-day clusterf*ck. I'd say that's par for the course on a Jeep anywhere there's snow and salt, though, you got off pretty easy all things considered.

You got through the gate and avoided a capacitor injury. That's a win.

All you get out of brake rotors in the area I live in is about 4 to 5 years. The salt and calcium thrown all over the roads just eats anything on a vehicle. Some manufacturers like to use Loctite on those pad bracket bolts, makes removal fun.

Hey Jerry just out camping so a bit late seeing you video. You must be close to going on your trip if you haven’t already left. You and Aubrey have a great trip. Looking forward to the videos. I have watched your other Yukon many times and that is definitely a bucket list trip for me too.

Yep. E-Torx are the Gatekeepers for sure. Was swapping out my transmission with one I rebuilt the other day, and I needed to remove the clutch and flywheel first to make room. E-Torx E8 on the clutch... Had to order spares as one was totally rounded by whoever had been in there before. Gatekeepers!

Yeah lol I’ve run into a lot of gate keepers that turn a lot of “simple jobs” into a hassle , heat and or Penetrating oil can solve . I just recently got an induction heater that works great at driving heat directly into stuck corroded seized bolts , nuts , without throwing heat in places you don’t want , like fuel lines, tank , sensitive electronics, the induction heater is a game changer in this regard.
Cheers Wild Bill currently buried way deep in the bush of far northern Ontario , fishing and relaxing , join me on my trip to northern BC !!

Rodger that. Is I also like to bleed the brakes when I do any pads or rotors. Just keep the fluid fresh

I had a really stuck slide pin in the TJ. Nothing would move it, I ended up hammering it so much that it bent, it was stuck forever. Ended up replacing the caliper for $58.

Those are good looking rotors. I've been told they provide good grip with a good set of pads. Should do well up in the Yukon. I hate those pesky strange bolts that Jeep likes to use here and there, to fuck up your day when working on your rig...

Dude, those damn Chrysler engineers seem to enjoy making things difficult for people working on their vehicles. E-torx or a torx bit in every location that will screw you over. Took me forever to get the one rusted E-torx off the bell housing of my 98’ TJ so I could do a simple clutch job. Every other fastener was a hex head except for the one that was in the worst location to get to. Rant over. Enjoy your trip and load up on the Chilkoot Jerry!

Very wasn’t under the vehicle and the jack is using blocks so it would collapse about 15”

Drilled and slotted rotors are not really a good option for canadian winters and dirt roads. Slotted are okay but drilled not as much. They just get scored up and filled with dirt and dust.unfortunetly.

I can see why you need the rotor retainer to come out didn't realize those Heeps...... I mean Jeeps use wheel bolts. Looks like it didn't turn into a total sh*t show, I think I would have done the rear brakes too so you have balanced braking power. You'll have the Jeep loaded to the tit having good brakes is a must.

Great job Jerry ! You got to love rust lol. Stupid manufactures and engineer johnny for developing and using e torx . Why do they use two of them on the Jeep transmissions where the transmission bolts to the block when all the rest of the bolts are normal. I don'[t get it .Am I missing something? Anyway , I hope you have a great trip to the Yukon my friend. Take care .
