There are 72,000 in Attendance, 1.9 BILLION watching from around the world. 1/4 of the population at that time.
Freddie performed against doctors orders with a throat infection .
Live Aid made 24 million dollars for famine in Africa.
When queen finished their performance a prince from Dubai donated $1 million.

Outstanding performance. Freddie was really feeling it that day, brought it all to the stage, too. A journalist wrote of this performance. "Yesterday for 21 minutes, England was ruled by a different Queen." I always feel like I am there in the crowd when I watch this performance. Freddie had a special gift of making the audience like he was singing to each of them personally and it was so powerful that it comes through even on video. I am glad you were enjoying this set, Queen smashed it! That third song was "Hammer To Fall" written by Brian May. Fourth song was "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" written by Freddie as a tribute to Elvis. Freddie wrote that song in 10 minutes while soaking in the bath. Yes, this is Freddie with a throat infection. Still, he crushes every note. After the show he said that singing felt like he was gargling with shards of glass. What a champion he was. Brave all the way to the end.

It was great to see how much you enjoyed the shortest 20 minutes of the rock history.
The playlist was as follows: BoRhap, Radio Gaga, Hammer To Fall, Crazy Little Thing Called Love (a tribute song to Elvis), We Will Rock You and We Are The Champions. Queen was the only band who rehearsed a week long before the show, who exactly kew what to play within the tiime limit and Freddie stole the show with his unmatched charisma.

It was Geldof who best summed up the mood of Live Aid 1985 and Queenʼs impact on it. “Queen were absolutely the best band of the day,” he remembered. “They played the best, had the best sound, used their time to the full. They understood the idea exactly, that it was a global jukebox. They just went and smashed one hit after another. It was the perfect stage for Freddie: the whole world. And he could ponce about on stage doing We Are The Champions. How perfect could it get?”

Queen has 4 members that never changed over their career as a band from 1970 to 1991 when Freddy Mercury died of AIDS.
They all wrote songs, the lyrics and sang Queen music and a group
Lead singer, piano and guitar - Freddy Mercury (1970 to 1991)
Drummer and had a very unique high range of vocals - Roger Taylor since 1970
Bass - John Deacon (1970 to 1992) because he didn’t want to perform without Freddy
Guitar and piano- Brian May since 1970
The song you questioned was “ Hammer to drop” album “The Works” in 1984

Hands down the Most Classy act, the most talented , and outside the box genius band that ever existed in the rock /Pop world. They have influenced so many of today's artists to the extent that even Lady GaGa got her name from their song Radio GaGa. While other bands were out there performing , and writing songs that may or may not be remembered in 30 years. Queen are giving free lessons in how to become immortalized Legends.

The first song you asked about is "Hammer to Fall" written by lead guitar player Brian May. Elvis Presley died at just 42 in 1977 and two years later Freddie Mercury wrote his tribute to The King. In fact, the Queen singer penned Crazy Little Thing Called Love in about 10 minutes in the bath. He was in Germany when he wrote it.

Hammer to Fall, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, and over 20 years of other songs, great songs, while Freddie Mercury was still alive. Wish you’d do more…I enjoy your reactions. Queen has been my favorite #1 band since they were formed. I absolute love Freddie Mercury, all of them, but he did one solo album and an Opera album with Montserrat Caballe’, which he basically wrote most of, and everything he has done with or without the band was GREAT! Plus, he was a great human being. Truly….

Yes Fred had a throat infection, some interviews Fred didn't speak as he was being quiet, and you've plenty of songs just from Queen over 600 on the released part of their CZcams channel and even I was surprised having grown up listening to the group, old enough to remember when they started. I would suggest some official documentaries as well, there are plenty around and in London we have an exhibition of items which belonged too Freddie which will be up for auction next month, so you can see the stage and private side via the exhibition you'll find plenty of videos online

Sorry, just found you; so, I’m late to the Comment Section! I’m a 66 y/o Glamma. You seem to enjoy the background of things. And, I’m a Trivia sponge, so here goes: They had just completed a Tour a month b4. So, they went & rented a Stadium to practice the performance. He ended up with a Throat Infection & the Doctor highly recommended he not do it bc he might lose his musical ability. He said no! Can you tell he had a severe throat infection? Most people think he was drinking booze from the cups bc on the piano. He’s drinking Honey & Tea. His command of the Audience was more than coincidence it was miraculous. Considering there were so many people there the sound was getting absorbed through them. So the people @ the back we’re following his hand gestures bc the actual sound hadn’t even reached them b4 the next sound was coming @ them. Go back & watch what his hands are doing & what the Audience is doing. NEXT: Radio Gaga is celebrating Radio bc M-TV is just getting started. LADY GAGA was a huge Freddie Fam growing up, so That was where she came up with HER STAGE NAME! You have to listen to the words to really understand the meaning. Most of us didn’t have a clue what a Band looked like unless we saw them in Person!
NEXT-MICROPHONE. At sometime along the way a Microphone Stand broke, so that was the only spilt second solution they could come up with. He realized the freedom he had to move, dance, & engage the Audience.
NEXT MICHAEL JACKSON & ELVIS CONNECTION on Song THING CALLED LOVE: It was written as his homage to Elvis-Freddie was a big fan. But, he just wasn’t sure about the song bc he didn’t want to taint Elvis. SO, he played it for Michael J. (Yes, they were friends!). And Michael told him he HAD TO, he said “Freddie, you have to”! (Can’t you just see that!?).
NEXT FREDDIE’s VOICE. HE HAD 4 extra teeth so that’s the reason he had such an overbite. He had the ability to naturally flow from Octave to Octave. It was a natural progression, for him.
SCIENTIFICALLY: Test were done on his Voice. He was able to use his Throat muscles on either side of his vocal cords. Which is normally seen in some Opera Singers. His Vocal Range was from Low Bass F, to High Soprano F! They were extremely surprised to find out that he could go from about 92Hz to 784Hz, effortlessly! See ACTUAL REPORT BELOW:
nyone who has listened to a Queen track knows that Freddie has a unique ability that still has not been truly replicated since. His ability to blend highs, lows and mid range notes cohesively and with immense precision. This skill was due to the fact that Freddie was able to create faster vibrato and harmonics than any other singer at the time. Not only this, he was able to shift through registers effortlessly. Although he naturally held a baritone voice, he primarily sang as a tenor and of course had no problem then shifting into soprano parts. One study on Freddie’s vocal range even confirmed that he was able to vary from about 92.2 Hz to 784 Hz, meaning he was reliably able to hit notes from the booming low of F#2 to the high pitch G5 - that covers a full three octaves!
LAST FUN FACT: His Lead Guitarist is playing on a Guitar he & his Father made. When he first starting to learn they were too poor to afford a high end guitar. So, they just made one! The included some “extras” that would normally have to be separate instruments to get all those features (think Concerts when you see guitarist changing Guitars depending on the Song….that’s why he didn’t)!
I’m sorry to take up your Valuable Time, and I thank you. You need anymore Trivia I’m your G’Ma go to. My Brain is full, especially with music, & believe it or not Sports!
