      I'm having a similar problem with mine. I have a 2007 36 volt ezgo txt and while at the campgound and fully loaded front and back, when I would stop and try to move again, it wouldn't do anything at all. I turned the switch off and back on two or three times and it would finally go. I had already installed new batteries prior to this problem and didn't have this problem before that. I'm wandering if my controller may be going bad. It seems to be fine if it's just me on it. Maybe with a full load, it getting the controller hot and shutting down?

    • @hotrodhoward16
      @hotrodhoward16  Před 3 lety +2

      @@tonystephens1027 that could be it for sure. Mine happened when I left it in the sun, I’m guessing 15-20 extra degrees would shut it down. The controller shouldn’t get hot with extra load, but if the capacitors are close or touching it may be heating them up. Electrical is frustrating for sure, it’s all trial and error. The trouble shooting guide on one of these comments. It may be the motors getting hot too. If you figure it out be sure to comment, somebody with the same issue might find it helpful!

    Hey David,
    Having probem with my 97 ex go electric, so I have new batteries and on a full charge after using the cart for a round of golf, during the round maybe 14 holes in the cart will lose power as if the batteries were dead and stop. After waiting a few minutes the cart will come back as if nothing wrong and continue the round.
    I have replace the reed by pass, the forward reverse mechanism was replaced last year and the batteries are less than one year. A golf repairman seems to think I need a new motor and others say it is something else

    I have the same type of cart and controller,i can not get it to move forward or reverse. I was working on it and by accident touched a hot lead to the white wire on the key switch,now it will not go forward or reverse and the solonoid does not click

    • @hotrodhoward16
      @hotrodhoward16  Před 3 lety +1

      Audrina Iaccarino, if I was going to bet, I would bet that you may have damaged the switch. That’s easy enough to test if you have a volt meter and are capable of seeing if continuity is flowing through. There is a step by step guide to checking components in one of the posts below. If the switch tests good, I’d check the solenoid. I doubt you messed up the controller before messing up one of the other two items. Hope this helps!

    Hey bud thanks for the video. My 36v txt has six brand new Trojan batteries. You press the pedal and it will take off like a freshly charged cart normally would. 30 seconds later it acts like the pack is dead and just stops. Press pedal again and off you go and so on. Any ideas?

    • @hotrodhoward16
      @hotrodhoward16  Před 4 lety +3

      I’m not an expert, but I’d be willing to bet it is a problem with the ITS position sensor, or your controller. I really lean towards the controller. The ITS is inexpensive (like 25 bucks) and easy to change. There is an online step by step trouble shooting guide if you have a volt meter you can really narrow it down between all the different components. I’d also be tempted to put it on jack stands in your garage and try it without a load. If it runs longer than it did with a load I really think it could be the same problem I was having. It definitely wouldn’t hurt to crack that controller open and look. The capacitors swell a little after some juice flows through them and then they touch and you lose power. They are easy to straighten out, then just reinstall and test. If you take it to a golf cart repair place they’d probably just replace the controller. Please let me know if you give it a shot and if it works!

    We are having the same issue. But we have a brand new controller. I mean maybe a month old.... if that.

    • @hotrodhoward16
      @hotrodhoward16  Před 4 lety

      I hate to hear that, I know how frustrating it can be! Did it work for a month after you put the new controller in or did it start acting up immediately? I think my issues started when the kids were driving it way to fast on a very bumpy piece of terrain on a hot day. Trying to use it as a UTV in other words. I wonder if you might have accidentally replicated the original problem on your new controller? If you have your old controller I’d split it open and see. I like my golf cart but frequently remind my kids it’s for old men to drive on fairways and wasn’t designed to be ran like a Razor up to the lake house 😂. It could also be your throttle position sensor, the switch next to that, or possibly the solenoid. If you have an ohm meter you could walk through the trouble shooting to figure it out. Harbor Freight sells Ohm meters for less than $10. Id be happy to help in any way that I can!

    • @hotrodhoward16
      @hotrodhoward16  Před 2 lety

      The reed switch is kind of like a key switch, but current turns it on and off instead of a key being turned. It doesn’t run into the controller, it just stops the flow of current if that makes sense.
      Here’s what the actual switch looks like:

    • @hotrodhoward16
      @hotrodhoward16  Před 2 lety

      Full disclosure, I’m not a full time golf cart mechanic. I’m just a guy with a golf cart that had a problem and I like to trouble shoot 😂. My initial thought is KISS. It stands for Keep It Simple Stupid. You know that your motors work in both forward and reverse by switching the wires. They are good. Next, are both your power supply wires good going back to the switch? You can test continuity with an ohm meter. If the forward wire doesn’t have continuity, you found your problem. If both hot wires have continuity, test your switch. As a betting man, I’d lay money on the switch being bad unless a rat at your forward hot wire. Either way, this should be a fairly easy prob to fix. Hope this helps! Let me know if you figure it out.

    • @ManuelGomez-ve9dk
      @ManuelGomez-ve9dk Před 2 lety

      Ok perfect I’ll check out the switch u don’t think it’s the speed control because both wires from motor goes up to the speed control not sure how the speed control woks, nor sure if it sends single to control to go forward and send control to go reverse thank you

    • @hotrodhoward16
      @hotrodhoward16  Před 2 lety +1

      If you need a little more detail reply back and I’ll provide some insight tomorrow, but for now, if you take your directional switch out, reverse will be on the bottom. You know that wire is good. Ohm it out just to check. Next check the color of your top wire and ohm it out at where it plugs into the switch and where it plugs into the motor. If that’s good, ohm out your switch from middle to bottom to check it. Assuming it reads correctly, do the same to the top. That’s really all that’s too forward and reverse. Switch, or forward wire.
