    The 40 had more energy, more penatration, and more expansion. That equals a larger wound channel for blood flow, and more potential to break through bones and penetrate organs. Clear winner

      First off, I'm not a fan boy of any caliber, particularly those that travel less than 2200fps at the muzzle. Example: Although it's much more powerful/effective than a .40 S&W or 9mm, the 240gr SJFP .44mag is not as practical as the .40 S&W or 9mm in efficiency. Of those two, both are plenty adequate for defense with the correct ammunition. That said, 9mm is the most popular, most common, and, in my opinion, the most efficient to carry and operate... As if it's a personal dig that the 9mm is better, it's not. 9mm simply rules... The .40 fan boys Crack me up!!!

      I’m a 10mm fanatic and my main edc is a G20/G29, but I have and carry all calibers. They are all good in their own ways, even little 380. Hard to beat an LCP MAX with 12+1 rounds of UW Xtreme Defender/Penetrator for a tiny pocket gun.
      But I just snagged a Gen 4 G23C because I haven’t seen them around in a while and they don’t produce them new anymore I’ve heard. The idea was just getting it to have it, but I’m thinking I’ll set it up and add to the carry rotation. It is more power yet shoots like my G19’s, which to me have near zero recoil. I’m so used to 10 and 500 that everything else feels extremely light. 9mm is great stuff but 40 is better (for me) and 10mm is remains king 👑 lol.

    That 40 performance just looks outstanding! The 9 is impressive but I give the win to the 40.
    Silvertips are, as you say, problematical in your "problem calibers" such as .32 and .380. They are quite soft and absolutely will expand at lower weights and velocities - but at the expense of penetration. I used to carry .380 Silvertips in a Sig P230 I used to have. I know better than that now. But in a 9 or 40 this ammo looks very effective! Good video!

    • @RealtyPro7
      @RealtyPro7 Před měsícem +1

      Silvertips do seem to have made improvements over the years. Wondering how they run thru G19/23 length barrels and maybe then G17/22? Guessing more expansion and less penetration, but still might be in at least the 12-18” zone. Then a run using them in a G20 vs a G21 to compare!
      I’d say that the Underwood Xtreme Defender and Penetrator take top spot for 380. A few others did ok, but no JHP rounds seem to match the combination of depth plus wound track. And they are definitely barrier blind lol. They perform well in all calibers, but really help 380 step up to meet more self defense standards. A Ruger LCP MAX loaded up with 12+1 rounds of either of those is potent little package. Great pocket gun or backup.

    well tools,heres my 2 cents.
    in 15 years of carrying ive fired my gun in self defense once.. it was a 3.3 " barrel 40sw. loaded with winchester silver tips. it wasnt a human however , but the biggest pit bull id ever seen in my life, and thats saying something because he was still huge despite obviously starving. when i took the shot , he was causing me 38 stitches on my right calf..
    we live in the woods, and somebody had aparantly threw it out. anyways, the silver tip turned him off like a light switch, and it was absolutley gruesome.
    the bullet fragmented and i had a few pieces of jacket in my foot that wasnt fun to get out but im so thankful that i had my gun. i was just walking up to the mailbox and lots of times ive left it.
    ill never get rid of that gun, and while ive moved on to better ammo, i would never feel undergunned with silvertip. i also never, ever leave my gun by choice. some places you just cant. but if im on the jon droppin a deuce, im armed.. in the shower? guns within arm reach. keep em with ya folks. it really happens when you least expect it.

I'm likely to get 1- ONE round off in a self def. situation that decides my fate. Now it's .357 mag with Buffalo bore 158 grain, close to 700 ft lbs. Even an amped druggie is going to feel that. I'd actually carry 44 mag if it didn't have the dirty harry stigma. Lawyers WILL use that against you in court. .357 was a standard trooper sidearm for years. 10mm for auto guys. Great test tho, good defense rounds against non-druggie or 400lb. adversaries.

      Agreed! The best move was sticking with that clothing barrier on the clear gel. Same barrier on the same gel every time now. It really helps compare the performance of different ammo. Many types of expensive 380 defense ammo were exposed as not being up to the task assuming the potential target irl is wearing clothes. That info led many people to re-examine the JHP ammo they’d been carrying for years in 380. Literally a life saving lesson!

How much more velocity & expansion vs how these 'softer' projectiles hold up to being pushed. Just a thought. I imagine a lot of folks might like to see that result compared to the concealed carry type performance of the same round

It's not the so called king of one shot stops, but that's why I have 15 more to follow the first and shot placement is key anyways. I think it got a bad rep in the FBI shootout and for off duty, where you're likely not going to shoot through barriers, it's just fine. The ST 185 .45 is also a good option for off duty. Very good to see. Encouraging results. These are definitely viable options for short or duty size. I really do like a bit heavier in both especially in 9. But not going to try to argue with success. Appreciate the good data & demonstration.

    This one is very interesting to me. One of the few times I have had a chrono available to me, I had some Winchester Silver Tip.👍 But I was shooting 180 grain (I think) 10mm, they averaged in the 1240's out of the 3.8" barrel of my 10mm. So this is one with a confirmed hotter load in 10mm. I will keep my eye open for some of the 9mm stuff.👍 They will be fun in the PCC's.😀

    I never "jumped" on the .40 bandwagon but after watching and studying on it I came to a conclusion.
    The 9mm and .45ACP was designed 100+ years ago and did exactly what they were intended to do.
    The .40 was designed with modern technology to do exactly what it does. 9mm and my beloved .45 was never designed to expand & penetration. New parameters call for a new cartridge I suppose.

    With the Silvertip on an indoor range you can see the bullet hit the target with good lighting. It is a silver streak.

    The Silvertip usually does pretty good. I just biught some in 45 acp and 45 long colt.
    There are two things I wish you would test but are hard to find. That is Winchester Ranger One in 45 acp (I just received a box of those too) and Gorilla Silverback solid copper 230 grain in 45 acp.
    When you get a chance check Lost River Ammo Company. They have some interesting rounds.

    With the 9mm it is the speed that you're after. The Winchester 115gr +P+ That the Illinois State Police used has very good street credentials and a lot of you may not know it is the same 115 gr Winchester silver tip bullet. They just did not make it silver.
    My agency we use the Winchester 115gr +P+ to a great extent. Never had any problems putting bad guys down.
    The thing that I like about the 40 caliber is it does better against barriers such as windshield, glass and especially human bone where it will break it or go straight through.
    The 9 mm is load dependent. I suggest stay away from the heavy 9 mm bullets. You do get the penetration but with the lighter weight and I would not go below 115 grain you get more energy in Target. Also understand you're not hunting human beings to eat them. So the lighter weight bullet destroys tissue better which you're not trying to preserve as if you were hunting an animal with four legs that is.
    Our medical examiner noticed brain hemorrhaging and the perpetrators we shot more than likely due to the lightweight high velocity round. So in 9 mm I would say use these rounds.
    Corbon 115 +P JHP
    Federal 115 +P+
    Winchester 115 +P+
    Remington 115 +P

    • @cgsimons1187
      @cgsimons1187 Před měsícem

      This is an interesting comment. So, you're suggesting the 115gr bullets I assume because they will be moving at higher speeds than the heavier ones. Also being +P or +P+ pushes them a little faster. I've heard elsewhere that very fast bullets(such as light .357 Mag) shred tissue more than slower ones. So, perhaps that happens with light 9mm +P+ to some degree too. Though when you mention brain hemorrhaging, was your medical examiner observing that happening from hits to the body with these rounds?
